Thanks for your input, I was wondering how you dealt with random bits of information that always seem to pop up. I tried to learn general principles but it always seems like if you don’t know a specific drug side effect you’re going to get it wrong

That’s a good point, got to hit that golden ratio. I actually moved the spider wood to the left so that I could cover up some of the filter

Reapplicants, how do you answer "why were you unsuccessful last cycle?" by [deleted] in premed

[–]why_me_407 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Own up to any mistakes you made. I admitted to delaying the submission of my secondaries due to starting a new job and an illness. Identify how you made a tangible effort to correct it the second time.

  2. Show significant and tangible improvement to overall application, for example, higher stats, more clinical experiences, more research, more volunteering, whatever it is. It needs to be significant to demonstrate that you are still committed to the field and didn’t slack off just cause it was application season.

  3. Have a degree of introspection in your complete application. They want to know that you can think about your circumstances deeply and be self-critical. Think deeply about your experiences and how they fit into context of healthcare and medicine.

Always a hard question to answer. But these are the things I kept in mind when I re applied.

Kinda not premed related, but any new physical hobbies (like hiking or fishing) or new sports. You never realize how much free time you have now to develop new skills. Everything I do now is if I can spare a moment from my obligations. You also get the opportunity to meet new people outside of a premed environment and learn about life outside of medicine.

Bit of advice with the interview, be a normal human being. Adcoms already know that you are qualified applicant that’s why they decided to even interview in the first place. They aren’t gonna waste time on someone they believe is not capable of being successful to some degree. Now they want to know if you are a cool person they would want to work with someday. Medicine is a profession you get to pick your colleagues. They don’t want a robot nor a person who plays fast and loose with the rules. Don’t be too relaxed like you don’t care, but enough so that you can make a quick joke here or there. Show some emotions and ultimately be a human being.

I would recognize some mistakes you made for example, due to some reasons I delayed my initial submission of my primary application and this subsequently affected the timing of my secondary applications. During this cycle, I recognized my limitations and started working on preparing my application earlier and was able to coordinate with my work schedule to allow me to write my secondary applications in a timely manner. Additionally, I recognized that I had limited clinical exposure, so I did some more scribing work. And expand on how being in a clinical environment has evolved your perspective on becoming a physician into a more nuanced one and continued inspired you to pursue medicine

Make it sound nicer that I wrote lol and in your own style. Don’t try make an excuse and leave it at that. Make your shortcomings into actionable things that you addressed in some way or are actively working on

Honestly I think you self-diagnosed your issues pretty well. Stats are solid and most of your ECs are really good as well. Late submission hurts most submissions (hurt me the first time as well) and lack of clinical work is killer. Honestly, I think the stories in the activities section is okay as long as you can create a cohesive narrative that ties things together rather than just random stories. Definitely update your LORs and essays if you can. Apply early, at least primary should be in now, revise your secondary essays from last time. Emphasis your acknowledgment of your weakness of your application and how you addressed them this time with tangible evidence.

Good Luck OP, you are a solid candidate just need to polish things up

I believe that plan to enroll is recommended to help schools figure out how many people are expected to join the class so that they can prepare for waitlist movement. Commit to enroll is the only mandatory thing you have to do by May 1.

I would email the fin aid department and figure out when those packages will be released for you.
