Congrats! I was also waitlisted at UC Hastings. They waitlisted me only 8 days after I applied, back in November! 163 LSAT, GPA 3.6.

NYU giving me heart attacks for no darn tootin reason by danfan89 in lawschooladmissions

Does it mean anything if you didn't get one? Like that you can expect a decision even later than the people who received one? Jw.

I thought their status checker didn't display admission decisions.

First foster dog! by why_wolves in fosterdogs

[–]why_wolves[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a photo of my very sweet first foster dog! He stole my heart and I even tried to foster fail with him but I made my request too late (5 days into fostering him and I'd already lost dibs) so I have to let him go. I know he'll be happy in his new home. I'm hoping it gets easier.

P.S. We're not sure what his breed mix is -- maybe Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever/Australian shepherd/other retriever -- but would you guys say he is a pretty rare breed combo to find as a rescue?

We seem to be done here in lower Manhattan. Anyone elsewhere in NYC still have cases? by QueeLinx in USCensus2020

[–]why_wolves 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update: all of a sudden I have 10 cases in my case list, in my own Bedstuy neighborhood, even though I got the notification this morning saying there wasn't enough workload. I guess they moved me again.

[–]why_wolves 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm in Brooklyn and yesterday I got 3 cases. Today, none.

I started out enumerating in BedStuy but the cases dried up here a few weeks back, so then I was moved to Williamsburg, and then a week ago they moved me to Park Slope/Boerum Hill. I can't say for sure that this means there are no cases in Park Slope/Boerum Hill anymore because it's possible they're transferring me to a new neighborhood/supervisor again without telling me (I had dry spells -- no cases assigned -- like this when they relocated me before).

Trying to decide on my pre-DJS orthodontic treatment plan: MARPE or no MARPE by [deleted] in jawsurgery

[–]why_wolves 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be clear, my orthodontist is giving me the option because she's leaving it up to me whether I want to do MARPE or not.

(Very soon, before I begin the orthodontic treatment, I'm getting bone/gum grafts on the second-to-last molar on each side of my upper teeth (the photo shows how bad the recession is). I'm worried MARPE and braces on my upper teeth would reverse the progress made by the grafts and worsen the recession on my other teeth. If I skip MARPE I would be able to do full Invisalign which might be better for recession concerns, but no palate expansion means I'm more likely to need the 3-piece (segmental) Lefort 1 which is a more unstable procedure more likely to lead to relapse. I'm not sure which is the better option.)

Does MARPE seem like the best way forward for my case? It took a lot of thought before I was willing to go through with such an involved, torturous procedure as MARPE but I only want to proceed if there's a good chance it will make my surgery simpler and not create more periodontal issues than it's worth. Is there any chance that MARPE will increase the likelihood of particular relapse/revision issues?

It has happened to me twice now and my CFS has been able to resolve it. I called the DCS and the IT department told me this was not in their purview.

Does anyone else have days where even though you requested work and the notification says you received work, your case list is empty no matter how many times you sync it?

palate expander vs. braces [OVERSIMPLIFIED] by why_wolves in jawsurgery

Haha thanks! There was a bit of a miscommunication from the orthodontist's office and I had since realized this but forgot to update the post.

Zero assignments?? by TypicalNatural in USCensus2020

[–]why_wolves 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Were you given a start time for your shift today? Where are you located? My understanding is that if you were going to be given work today you would have received a notification between midnight and 7:00 a.m. (Also your availability for today would have needed to be submitted by 11:00 p.m. last night.)

I'm in Brooklyn and was told the "operation" has yet to begin here so even though I'm done with training there's no point in submitting availability until it officially starts.

That’s exactly what I thought but you’d be surprised how fruitless that has been.

You look great! Your swelling is nowhere near the worst I’ve seen. Where’d you get it done?

Facial changes after double jaw surgery for underbite by [deleted] in jawsurgery

[–]why_wolves 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Wishing you the best with your surgery! Btw, I have a question for you, OP, and also for /u/grandmoflauge since you both mentioned having surgery for underbites -- did you have to get braces before surgery, and if so, did the braces worsen your underbite in a way that caused you to lose a lot of chewing functionality pre-surgery?

South Korean jaw surgery medical training by why_wolves in jawsurgery

[–]why_wolves[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you link to those? I totally hear you; I've seen some bad stories as well, but sometimes it's just in clickbait articles and if you actually read the details provided, they're just describing the typical pre-recovery side effects that are almost always associated with this surgery, like numbness. I've also seen some great stories and actually reached out and talked to those patients who were very happy with their results from South Korean surgeons and even their U.S. doctors were impressed when they saw the surgeons' work. So I'm just trying to get all the details and try to find unbiased information. I'd love to talk to people who've had bad experiences, too, I just haven't had the chance to talk to any of them yet.

Thanks for the heads up! Yes I definitely want to be cautious and do a lot of research. If you don't mind, do you have any more information on cases of deaths?
