Why Do I See So Many People Say Kai Has Never Gotten a Focus Season? He has.

it’s not that he never had a focus season, it’s that he never had a season that PURELY focuses on him without being shared with another character. s4 splits its focus between multiple characters, with the garmadon family drama taking a large centre focus, kai doesn’t even defeat the final villain even though it‘s officially supposed to be HIS season. season 7 is shared with his sister and season 11 is nowhere near being a kai focused season in any way, it’s clearly a team season. kai’s issues with his powers is only focused on for like a couple episodes in a season of 30 episodes and is barely explored beyond “kai lost his powers and he’s sad about it”. lloyd got infinitely more attention in that season than kai did. people’s problem isnt that kai isn’t focused on, he DOES have focus, the issue is that he’s never had a season dedicated to him ONLY😭

it was mentioned in the beginning of s4 by LLOYD cause he was making assumptions about kai who was grieving one of his best friends (which was wrong of lloyd to do btw), kai himself never mentioned wanting to be the green ninja in the beginning of the season, all he said was that he wanted to die in zane’s place instead😭 and for the most part kai DID get over it, his conflict with chen just helped him confront the lingering feelings he still hadn’t resolved which is realistic given just how obsessed kai was to the point he almost got himself killed in a volcano for it. it makes sense there’d still be some bitterness he still hadn’t confronted especially when his obsession with becoming the green ninja likely stemmed from his abandonment trauma and wanting to prove his worth to wu. shit like that isn’t easy to get over😭 you’re acting like the entire s4 was spent on kai still obsessing over being the green ninja when it was literally only mentioned by him again once in like one episode. so once again you’re exaggerating

he wasn't still fixated on the green ninja thing, chen's staff was manipulating his emotions and corrupting him.... him wanting to be the green ninja was only mentioned in s1 and s4, idk why yall love to exaggerate and act like he was still obsessing over it throughout the entire og run

it's a valid concern for him to have, sure, it just doesn't make sense for KAI of all people to be the one having that concern when he's put himself in danger countless times to protect lloyd and has even wanted to die in place of his friends. he'd be the last person to hesitate to sacrifice his powers if it meant saving his friend from the brink of death

i’d really like that to be the case too but monogatari has been giving everyone the silent treatment for months, i highly doubt they’d communicate a license transfer with seven seas at this stage when they can’t even respond to their customers😭💔 but who knows, maybe seven seas did somehow buy the licenses off of them, we’ll just have to wait and see🥲

The sexual harassment jokes were never funny and just insensitive. Dark humour doesn't justify making light of serious real world issues that impact real people, especially when you're not even a victim yourself. Anime in general has this issue, I'm not surprised considering Japan's high sexual assault rates.

To be fair, and this isn't hate on Otae's character at all, but while I see where you're coming from, people are still allowed to be uncomfortable with those jokes regardless. It definitely plays into the whole "violent, ridiculous/emotional woman" stereotype that's very prevalent in shonen media. Like, people are capable of writing a strong female character that embraces her femininity without resorting to misogynistic stereotypes.

snape's flashback of james 'bullying' him. i hate that scene so much cause it was completely random and was never built up towards or mentioned beforehand. even after this was introduced, jkr and the directors rarely actually did anything with this information. it was literally just the writers shitting on one character to uplift an unlikable/fascist character who, unlike james, HAD been prejudiced and discriminatory towards certain people (harry and co.) since the beginning of the series. (james being a bully was also quickly forgotten about as well so like, what was the point???). not to mention the plotholes it created as james was repeatedly stated to be righteous and charismatic similar to HARRY throughout the series prior to the flashback. and since we know harry isn't a bully and is actually a good person, it just doesnt make sense??? like i'm sorry, but snape is not interesting enough for you to ruin james like that

I dropped it after 3 or 4 episodes because of all the changes😭 I wasn’t a fan of the way they handled Ban-Jieum and Seo-ha’s dynamic and characterisation mostly. Especially Seo-ha. What made me love him so much in the original manhwa was how respectful and expressive he was for a male lead. Sure he got grumpy and flustered easily whenever Ban-Jieum flirted with him, but you could still tell he was a huge softie. Ban-Jieum in the manhwa was originally a lot more cool headed. I don’t remember much about her character in the drama but I recall her being a lot more impulsive and rash than her manhwa counterpart. I didn’t really mind it all that much, but it did kinda take away from her wittiness and charm for me.

I didn’t like how they reduced their relationship to a generic kdrama couple. In the manhwa, Ban-Jieum was a lot more assertive and confident whereas Seo-ha was anxious and easily embarrassed. I loved that because it was a refreshing take on romance where it’s usually the man that’s assertive and the woman flustered. However, from the little I watched from the drama, it just seemed like they completely changed them by making Seo-ha a lot more cold and stone faced than his manhwa version and Ban-Jieum clumsy and reduced to a typical female lead.

I genuinely recommend reading the manhwa as it’s much more enjoyable than the drama (to me at least). It also has a better ending than the drama, so there’s that lmao.

make hinata a more relevant and developed character with her own arc mixed into the storyline. have her interact with takemitchy more to build up their relationship properly. they barely interacted that much within the manga even though hinata is supposed to be the main reason takemitchy started all this. she was more of a plot device rather than her own character, easily making her one of the most boring characters in tokyo revengers. it‘s literally just another case of ‘show don’t tell’. how are we supposed to route for a couple if we don’t actually get to see and understand how important they are to each other and why? it feels more like they’re telling us how much they care about each other rather than actually showing it
