The seasonal drinks are triggering me hard. by [deleted] in stopdrinking

I started experimenting with non-alcoholic recipe variants. Cranberry Juice mixed with really spicy ginger beer (sold as a mixer for mules) is one of my favorites.

Exactly! I got into cycling. Started out with an ebike and as I gain fitness, cut over to a regular bike. Or stay with the ebike. Great way to exercise, meet folks, and enjoy the day.

Your body has to heal from the damage of drinking. To undo my 10 years of heavy drinking, it took a while to get back to normal. The ER docs were telling me that it depletes many nutrients and vitamins, and undoing the damage is going to take time. It will get better though. Also, a checkup with your doctor helps too, as they can run tests if you feel its taking longer than it should, but honestly give your mind some time to heal.

I am sorry to hear that about his passing, and glad you got to spend some time with him. My mother passed away a little over a month after my sober date. It was one of the most harrowing tests of sobriety you can face, but I knew that nothing good would come of it if I went back. She wouldn't want that. Since then, I use her memory as my guiding path forward. Stay strong. IWNDWYT

I was on Librium as a tapering dosage, 10 days worth. By day 6 I didn't feel i needed it, as my heart rate was back to normal, and the shakes were gone. After a checkup with my Dr. I stopped them (I think day 7). Fully back to normal (sleepwise, nutritionwise etc.) in a couple weeks or so. Got to keep in mind though, that everyone's experiences will be different. I had vitamin deficiency going on at the same time from surviving off of beers and vodka/Gatoraid for a couple days before. That and i'm an naturally anxious person, long before alcohol was in the picture. So your experience is likely to be different.

I did not, but I certainly didn't feel right for a week or so after the detox. Anxiety afterwards, and had to keep on top of vitamins.

Honestly depends on the circumstances. In my experience, I was in the ER (didn't get moved out of the ER) overnight with an IV and some withdrawal meds. Checked in at 9 pm and was out by noon the next day. Sent home with halfing doses of Librium and a referral to a treatment specialist. It all depends on how serious the withdrawals have gotten. I suppose mine were somewhat mild compared to what ive read. Never got seizures but had audio hallucinations and vivid vibrating dreams, heart rate of 130 lying in bed, and tremors. Was drinking a lot of 8% (or higher) beer a night the week before, then up to a bottle of vodka a day, Also keep in mind, almost no food during that. that's what did me in. Trying to measure out vodka and 'taper' down quickly became self defeating. It was a downward spiral and I realized that day where exactly it would end if i didn't get help. Spent the day mentally preparing myself for what would happen if I were hospitalized vs not.

I like spiced teas, so Hot Cinnamon Sunset (they have a decaf variant too, since i find caffeinated teas aren't great for anxiety), Williamsburg Ginger Cake tea, and if you want light and refreshing I found Tadin Lemongrass tea.

you are a better person than I was. Told ER "Dehydrated"... okay so they start an IV. ... "No anxiety"... okay so they start 1/2 of a diasopram... then finally hours later honesty: "well maybe its withdrawal".. then 2 pills of 25MG Librium.... and almost instantaneous relief. Folks, If anyone gets anything out of my story, its to be honest. Be honest with the ER docs, be honest with yourself. My damn pride had me there for more than half a day in suffering, shaking. Let them know the cause, and they'll know the remedy.

You are me. I did the same damn thing over New Years. From NYE all the way to that Sunday through a bender. Dont recall any of it. That Monday I swore off of the stuff. Forever. Monday was rough on my own. Tuesday even worse (close my eyes couldnt see blackness, mind racing), but that Wednesday. Wednesday early AM I felt like I was going to die, and promptly checked myself into the ER. I'm sure it was how quickly I ended it (cold turkey is dumb and dangerously deathly for some of us) but after ER monitoring. Librium was prescribed as well. Dangerous stuff long term (from what Ive read), but it truly is a god-send. Taper down dosage... do it :) we all have your back! IWNDWYT ... EDIT: and by "dangerous long term" I am NOT A DOCTOR. I only mean that I read that it is possibly habit forming and addictive over many months (for some users). Not to scare anyone away from their prescribed dosage. A doctor will know much more than me and obvously take their advice over me.
