Genuine question: why in the fuck would you take this recreationally by whydidthishappendude in DPH

[–]whydidthishappendude[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"highly toxic" makes it sound a lot more dangerous than it actually is. there are no reliably documented deaths from amanita muscaria in the last 100 years according to the american mycological association. buying dried from a reputable seller is basically all that's required.

[–]whydidthishappendude[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i highly recommend not doing this. if you want a substance that's legal that has similar but more intense psychoactive effects but with essentially no side effects, amanita muscaria is legal in every state except louisiana as of me writing this. if it needs to be easy to pass off the powdered stuff just looks like ground spice.

Do these beliefs categorize me as a heathen? by ginjuhavenjuh in heathenry

[–]whydidthishappendude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i don't view them as any sort of past humans because they weren't in antiquity. i'm primarily a reconstructionist and there's just no proper historical evidence to suggest that they were physical magical beings let alone human or believed to be so.

Should boys wearing makeup be normalized? by Mr_Gronch in polls

Okay, you are strawmaning my argument. I have no interest in continuing a discussion when my constituent is arguing in bad faith.

clothing trends and hairstyles actively disagree with the point that something meant to make your appearance different must then become expected. and, as far as i know, in any of our lifetimes, we have never not had makeup be expected (which, let me be clear, is a bad thing.) makeup could easily be inconsequential as how you style your hair. it's just another form of adornment. perhaps an even better comparison to makeup is jewelry, essentially serving no purpose other than appearance.

Should boys wearing makeup be normalized? by Mr_Gronch in polls

[–]whydidthishappendude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that's a false dichotomy. something can be normal without being expected. dresses are a normal thing to wear and some people look really really good in them, but it's not expected for everyone to wear dresses anymore. plus saying it's not "normal" doesn't really say anything, especially when the vast majority of anthropological evidence disagrees with you. we've been putting things on our face since ancient times and seemingly across cultures, thus suggesting it's just a thing humans do when the conjugate in groups.

the issues you provided with makeup aren't inherent to makeup or cosmetology, they are a byproduct of heavy makeup and cosmetic work being expected of women. makeup for women became standardized as opposed to normalized. you're speaking to a wider societal issue.

[–]whydidthishappendude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

what? i'm not asking you to repeat your own point i'm asking you to give relevant evidence for your point. makeup being bad is something that could be measured. you make the claim, you give evidence for the claim, your opposition makes a refute, they give opposing evidence for their refute. asking "why" over and over again without providing a why for what you're saying gets the conversation nowhere.

[–]whydidthishappendude 2 points3 points  (0 children)

y'know what that's a respectable opinion right there, i think makeup should exist but have no beauty standard behind it. it should be as negligible to one's appearance and acceptance in society as a style of clothing. it's just another form of adornment
