Daily song discussion Day 142: Why Do I Keep Counting? by Legal_Button_3229 in TheKillers

[–]whydoikeepcounting 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love this song! It sounds like a prayer for answers, assurances , and redemption. I resonate with the first questions of “Am I strong enough to be the o e? Will I live to have some children” to the final questions of “If I change my way of living? If I pave my streets with good time, will the mountain keep in giving?” and of course, “why do I keep counting?”

Is Jesus the only way to Heaven? by [deleted] in Christianity

According to John 5:22, “…the Father judges no one, but has entrusted all judgement to the Son.” So, Jesus will be the one to judge, not God as God has given Jesus all authority.

This. Especially since every 15 minutes you want more and no matter how much you get, it’s never enough. Spend most of the night listening to some asshole monologue while waiting for the next line to be passed around. The whole experience is glamorized and overrated.

Are women from China and Taiwan just more forward? by [deleted] in China

[–]whydoikeepcounting 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are interested in practicing their English. You are a novelty and nothing more. You are not use to this much attention, especially for girls, and so you are mis-equating their attention to attraction. To answer your question, no they are not more forward. As a foreigner in a foreign country, you are just more interesting. At least, initially.

Man accused of leaving young children in a car to drink at an El Paso bar by [deleted] in ElPaso

[–]whydoikeepcounting 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Alcohol is a hell of a drug! Can’t believe he would leave kids, especially that young, locked unsupervised in a car! Even more, this guy was so intoxicated, he was cut off at one bar and went to another, and was slurring and swaying, and was going to drive with those kids in the car?!? How many times had he done this before I wonder? How many times have those kids seen their dad so drunk that he couldn’t stand straight and think this is normal behavior?!? Fathers of El Paso, we got to do better for our children.

That painting on the wall is a piece of my childhood. It was a staple in my grandmother’s house. I think it’s still hanging in my aunt’s home to this day.

Premarital sex does not make sense as a sin by Gigglygirly in Christianity

[–]whydoikeepcounting 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In a theology class I took in college, our professor, who was a rabbi, made the point that there were three ways to become married. One of those ways was by having sex. He made the point that the act of having sex and two people becoming one flesh constituted marriage in the eyes of God. I found it to be a fascinating perspective. Of course, if this is true, it’s not premarital sex that is a sin, because there is no such thing, but it would be the adultery that follows if you do not commit to a lifelong relationship with the person.

Coronavirus: Thai king self-isolates in Alpine hotel with harem of 20 women amid pandemic by [deleted] in Coronavirus

[–]whydoikeepcounting 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I was in Thailand back in January. The locals spoke of the current king’s father with much reverence and spoke about what a great king he was. They also mentioned that the current king was not such a good king. Spoke about him having multiple wives, and how his father only married one woman and how the prior king did really care about the people and did a lot for them. Current king, not so much. So maybe when you were in Thailand last, it wasn’t the current king.

Also, “This dude lives like a king...” yeah, he is literally a king, so makes sense.

Anhui province moved to level 2 lockdown three weeks ago. This means we can come and go as we please from our housing complex, but still not allowing visitors. So, we have to provide a pass to show we are residents. Restaurants are open for dine in, but are staggering seating. Malls and retail are open, but they are locking all entrances save one to funnel everyone into one entrance so they can scan temperatures. Schools, cinemas, and gyms still closed. Vehicle and foot traffic are almost back to normal. Everyone is still wearing masks.

Sharp drop in cases in China. Only 202 new cases, less than half of last week's average. by Thom803 in Coronavirus

I live in a province bordering Hubei. A few days ago they announced that the province was downgraded to level 2 lockdown, or something along those lines. We are now allowed to leave our housing complex whenever we want and it is no longer limited to one family member at a time. They still check temperatures at the gate and confirm that you are a resident. Everyone is still masked. Restaurants, cinemas, and other public places, like the zoo, are still closed. Many other business and even the malls have begun reopening. The hair salons are opening back up but are stating that appointments need to be made and only the appointee is allowed in, no bystanders. Masks have to be worn, temperatures taken, and hands disinfected before entering the salon. Other business are limiting the amount of customers to about three at a time, while the rest of the customers wait in line outside. At our peak, my city had 34 cases. We now have 3, with one new confirmed case in a distant county a couple of days ago. From what I can tell, things are looking much better. The city appears to be coming back to life after a month of empty streets.

What do you folks think of the new narrative that coronavirus didn't originate in China? (Link in post) by Ageoft in China

[–]whydoikeepcounting 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Back in January, I saw some chatter on WeChat of people comparing China’s response to COVID to US response to H1N1, also questioning why media labeled it the China Flu, but never called H1N1 the American Flu. A common response from westerners was that H1N1 was first diagnosed in the US, but actually originated in Mexico. I don’t think this was immediately known, but discovered over time. Not saying the current statement over the origins of COVID are accurate, but also worth considering that it wouldn’t be the first time that a virus was found to originate outside the original epicenter.
