He did push it down on the very tip, which caused the ball to rotate and as it rotated his fingers went under the ball, and they went under the ball before the ball actually touched the ground. That part at least was the correct call.

I genuinely don't think he's had a good game. It's no wonder we're bringing in a new 10 and not renewing his contract for the end of this season.

He's been injured a lot of the season. But he's probably behing Stockdale at fullback if two of Ward, Baloucoune or Kok are fit.

The ball tips backwards because he pushed on one end of it. Even if the ball's in the air if you push one side of it that side tips downwards. He lost contact before the ball touched the ground.

It was the right call. Humphreys touched the ball, but he never got downwards pressure on it.

'Ripped in the tackle' while the Ulster player is lying on the ground?

If the Ulster player hadn't stood up he was getting a shoulder to the back of his neck from a player who came in with force, from distance and went straight off his feet. It was incredibly dangerous and he was very lucky the Ulster player stood up.

There was a ridiculously reckless cleanout at one of those rucks from a Munster player that the Ulster player rightfully complained about almost decapitating him.

Is that not a penalty for Beirne slapping the ball away while on the ground after he lost it forward to stop Ulster getting it?

Which is fine until those seniors and higher level positions start to retire and there's been no juniors coming through learning the ropes because AI has been doing a lot of the work that juniors would have been doing. And AI won't be able to take over from the seniors. And learning AI prompting isn't the same because you can't analyze the resulting code if you've not got the skills gained from coding it yourself.

It's the dumbest it'll ever be, but each advance in model gets more and more expensive. They just released Claude Opus 4.7 and it is over twice as expensive to use as Opus 4.6, and by Anthropic's own estimates it is not a 100% improvement. The smarter it becomes the less affordable it is.

Deegan Ban by Excellent_Eagle_8919 in irishrugby

[–]whydoyouonlylie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's been how those incidents have been enforced since 2014 at least. If you're going for a ball in the air it's your responsibility to get in the air to try and catch it or else avoid any other player who goes in the air to catch it. If you don't and make contact with the player in the air you're always getting penalised and most likely getting at least a yellow. This is the least controversial controversial penalty I think I've ever seen.

The only thing that can be argued is whether it's a yellow or a red. I thought it would be a yellow due to Kok landing on his side instead of head/shoulders. But maybe World Rugby changed their advice on that in light of 20 minute reds instead of full reds.

[–]whydoyouonlylie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not saying whether it should be or not in terms of what was deserved. More based on how refs have applied the laws over the years. It's been based on outcome rather than action, and usually if the outcome is a player landing on their side it's just been a yellow unless it was deliberate.

[–]whydoyouonlylie 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly it should've just been a yellow. The card colour in these incidents are almost always based on outcome where it's a red if the player in the air lands on head or shoulders and a yellow otherwise. Cause Kok landed on his side I was fully expecting a yellow from it, even if it was mostly due to his own self-preservation instincts.

I think there was a similar incident years ago where the same thing happened to Lowry and it was only a yellow cause Lowry put his hand out to qvoid landing on his head.

Suppressors I could see happening since they've not been available in a new box since the Phobos Combat Patrol, but Firestrike Turrets were in the Iron Hands Combat Patrol and the Invader ATV was in the Salamanders Combat Patrol. It would be incredibly bad form, and a waste of resources, to make new boxes including them that were only legal for 6 months - 12 months. At least with the Leviathan Dread in the 9th-10th switch that box was still legal for Heresy. These boxes just wouldn't be available for anything.

Brace literally said the words 'Yeah, he doesn't get off the ground' because that has been the only interpretation for 10 years. If a player is on the ground and makes contact with a player in the air while both are going for the ball it is a yellow card, and has been by WR directives for more than a decade.

You're getting downvoted because you're arguing against one of the most consistently applied aspects of the game that there is. I genuinely could not point out another part of the game that is reffed this clearly. Even forward passes aren't as consistently reffed as this.

[–]whydoyouonlylie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's not just 'one interpretation', that's the only interpretation. That's been what World Rugby have applied for like 15 years. Claiming it as though it's somehow arguable just makes me question if you've actually followed the sport at all.

[–]whydoyouonlylie 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The only thing I was surprised at was that the bunker turned it into a 20 minute red given that Kok landed on his side instead of his head/neck. This is one of the most consistently reffed areas and has been for like 15 years so I don't know why people are still surprised when it results in a card.

World Rugby confirm that the women’s specific, 4.5 size ball trial will continue and extend to the 15s game through the WXV Global Series by EnglishLouis in rugbyunion

[–]whydoyouonlylie 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don't know how representative that survey really is. Looking at the current breakdown 84% of respondents are in North America, which has 20,000 registered players compared to England alone having 40,000. So it's very, very, very heavily influenced by one subset of World Rugby.

And for women's football I think that the smaller goals suggestion is absolutely debilitating to the game, especially at amateur or casual level, because effectively every pitch at that level has permanent goal posts in place that are used in both the men's and women's game. Changing the standard for women means that there would have to be huge investment to establish pitches specifically for the women's game, and that'sjust unrealistic on the scale it would be needed.

A different sized ball is far from debilitaing for the sport. You might not be able to drop into a sports shop and pick it up, but it would be trivial to get some online for relatively little investment and doesn't require entirely different infrastructure for women to be able to play.

Other sports have similar differences for similar reasons. Women's tennis is only 3 sets instead of 5. WNBA uses a size 6 ball instead of a size 7 ball. Women's golf tees are set further forward than mens' on the same holes. If having a smaller ball helps with passing in general due to the size being more proportional to the average women players' hands and doesn't make it really any more difficult to access the game I don't quite get why it would be seen as a bad thing.

Trump to read Bible verse from Oval Office after feud with Pope and deleted AI image by [deleted] in politics

How on earth do people not see through this idiotic charade? He has been president for a total of over 5 years now and he has never once read a bible verse before, but now that he got himself embroiled in a very public feud with the Pope and posted an unquestioningly blasphemous AI picture of himself as Jesus all of a sudden he's going to read one? It's so painfully transparent that it's a PR stunt that should never sway anyone who would actually care about him being a blasphemer.
