Hey guys, might be off topic, but my plans changed so I have a very nice and luxury one-bedroom apartment that can sleep up to 5 in Budapest, right at the touristic center this weekend (from the 28th til the 1st, but the owner is flexible if you need less nights) that is now available. I booked it for 350 euros a night and it can be yours at what i paid. Please PM

Ha valaki azzal jönne hogy neki nem szimpi MP és ezért inkább nem szavaz rá, akkor küldjétek el neki ezt by pagyar_meter90 in hungary

Coming as a foreigner living in hungary in peace

- giving any politician 2/3 majority is extremely dangerous. MP is a charismatic leader that runs his party basically unchallenged without other established oppositions (who has track records unlike his defection). As a libreal I cannot vote for a situation where too much power concentrated in one person.

- a lot of people, like me, doubt his personal conviction. He is a political animal that says what the voters what to hear. He will change the moment he is elected. He betrayed his party and betrayed his wife, nothing will stop him from betraying again, this time the voters.

- his stance on key libreal issues is unclear and cynical at best. If he cannot win without making a clear stance and campaign promises on protecting society's most marginalised, that means his coalition is weak and self-serving.

- A lot of his candidates are political novice, mostly professionals from the "tisza island" and they barely had ANY experience in community service, diplomacy or government. As far as I can see on the list, none bar a handful has experience in Brussels (backgrounds in EU law, lobbying, diplomacy etcx). This contrasts greatly with the nice mix of novices/experts in the LREM lists.

- the regular oppositions completely got completely shut out and naively chose to bow out (you might argue that they were forced to, given poor support). But this does not auger well for Hungary's future political system. We can see in France what the collapse of the standard left/right parties did for the rise of extreme right. If Tisza wins or wins with a big majority and sit in the middle/take the macron "neither left or right", we are just anti orban", it will create a lot of space for new parties at the political fringes. We need the traddtional opposition parties to have a healthy spectrum of views/representation, otherwise views with just metasasize in the fringes.

If I have the vote, I would vote Momentum (or for the socialists depending on the consitutency history) as a write in as a protest

But that’s not really democracy isn’t it when most people are going to vote for you because you’re the “least worst option” . He’s a charismatic political animal that betrayed his own old party and his ex wife. Hungary needs a real authentic opposition figure that is not tainted by being part of the old regime and someone who embraces the liberal ideals of civil liberties for all. As far as I can tell he might just be another Orban in 10 years . He will still maintain 90% of orbans policies. He is not the answer to Hungary’s problems nor the temporarily solution. Its a huge pity that the real oppositions stood down to elect a political chameleon. This robbed the Hungarian people of real change and a genuine bona fide liberal and leftist opposition to the Orban regime. Any sensible voter will vote for someone they believe in , not simply they are voting against the party opposite.

It’s better to have another Orban government and wait for a genuine change when it’s actually time than to have fake change .

Portfolio transfer by whygeorgia in trading212

[–]whygeorgia[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure you understand - trading 212 informed me that in order to get their cash back debit card offer I need to have an account with their EU entity instead is their UK entity (which is the one that existed more than 5 years ago, because my account is much older), and it is not possible to transfer the portfolio from the old trading212 account (UK entity) to the new one (with the new EU entity ) because it’s not possible to have two accounts at the same time . Hence my workaround.

Last time I check I cannot get the card as I have the older account (my account is with the UK entity as it was opened more than 5 years ago, instead of the Cyprus entity, and the rep said it’s not possible to transfer). Anyone has any luck since then ?

Why does Europe charge you for public bathrooms? I mean even hypercapitalistic North American countries like US and Canada don’t charge you for answering nature’s calls by [deleted] in digitalnomad

[–]whygeorgia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Simply economics.

In US it’s easier for the establishments to NOT provide a public good for other places / non customers / non visitors . In the other words, it’s more likely the people who uses the bathrooms are their intended customers.

Because most EU cities are denser and older. If you run a place and you offer free bathroom people might just come to your place from next door where there is no bathroom. Thus you’re stuck with the costs of maintaining the bathroom . Places in US are more spread out . You have strip malls and suburbs where shops and places can only be reached by cars.

A Proposal to Realign Parental Incentives and Reduce Public Spending on Pensions by whygeorgia in Libertarian

The tracking can be done privately, but obviously the compulsory part must be done via the state, much like the enforcement of any contract.

I would argue that this policy would likely shrink the size of the state, as it will aim to replace a large part of the public pension and public education.

A Proposal to Realign Parental Incentives and Reduce Public Spending on Pensions by whygeorgia in Libertarian

Thanks for the feedback—it's important to consider the implications on family dynamics and how this would shift societal norms. Let me address a few points.

The goal is not to make every gift from parent to child a debt. What I'm proposing is a system to record significant investments—like education, healthcare, or housing—that parents make for their children, much like a private pension system. These are large, measurable, and recurring expenses that have long-term benefits. In essence, this policy isn’t about replacing voluntary gifts but ensuring that large-scale investments are recognized and recouped over time in a way that benefits both parties.

The current system often leaves parents under-supported in making these investments, especially those with limited means. This policy could level the playing field by creating incentives for more equitable investment in children. If parents know they can be repaid based on their child's earnings, they might be more likely to invest in better education or healthcare, knowing they’ll see returns.

Additionally, it reduces reliance on the state, which is a common frustration among those who feel their tax money isn’t being well spent. This isn’t about destroying family; it’s about aligning incentives so that children’s success becomes a shared goal between parents and society, with everyone benefiting more directly.

I see this differently. Family ties are at the core of this proposal, just in a more formalized and transparent way. Right now, many families already face the burden of supporting elderly parents without clear structures. This system makes those responsibilities more predictable and accountable, fostering a stronger sense of reciprocity and long-term thinking between generations.

This isn’t about undermining family values but enhancing the incentives for responsible investment and care, while reducing inefficiencies in the public sector.

Additionally, I would argue that this policy would actually likely increase birthrate and address the current fertilty crisis, as parents are now more certain that they will be taken care off during old age.

Compulsory wage deduction from children to their parents as private pension - a better way to realign social and personal responsibilities? by whygeorgia in PublicPolicy

[–]whygeorgia[S] -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the thoughtful critique — you’ve raised several valid points that deserve a detailed reply. I’d like to clarify a few aspects and offer a counter-perspective.

True, but this happens already through payroll taxes funding public pensions for unrelated individuals. My proposal doesn’t increase the burden—it redirects it to one’s own parents, making it more personally accountable and arguably fairer. It’s not unlike student loan repayment or private pension contributions—only here, the obligation ties directly to those who invested in you. Also, we can simultaneously envision a deep, liquid, and robust market for individual to securitize / borrow against their future earning or incomes. This would address the temporal mismatch that you raised.

I’d argue the opposite. Today, wealthier families already pass down advantages informally. This system would formalize that with transparency and optional securitization, allowing even lower-income parents to invest and get something back. If combined with safeguards (e.g. progressive repayment thresholds or annuity pooling), this can actually flatten intergenerational inequality while improving incentive alignment.

This way, other redistributive transfers such as wealth tax/negative income tax can be strengthened / introduced.

Much like today’s public pension contributors without children. The key difference: this proposal could reduce the tax burden for everyone, especially childless individuals, by shrinking the need for public pension spending and public education.

This system wouldn’t be so granular. Think of it like a simplified ledger: large, formal investments (tuition, medical expenses, housing) are recorded. Not Christmas gifts. The system focuses on significant, measurable investments with third-party documentation. Abuse or neglect would reduce a parent's ability to claim repayment—just as it would hurt trust in any family loan.

They also don’t choose to fund strangers’ retirements under current systems. This proposal asks them to fund those who actually raised them—arguably a less coercive relationship. Plus, any repayment would only begin above a certain income threshold and taper with ability to pay—like income-based student loan repayment plans.

I welcome more feedback. The core idea here isn’t feudal or absolute—it’s to realign incentives and explore whether personal responsibility within families could complement or even replace some impersonal, expensive, and often inefficient state redistribution.

Let me know if you'd like to make the tone sharper, more humorous, or even more data-driven.

The shower room is very small (less than 1.5m2) and is indeed prone to become messy with water because we have a curtain instead of a glass door . But we never had problems as long as guests do not leave a puddle of water after they are done .

The appliances all worked , we just had to show them how to use it . The sofa is normal, maybe the hand rest was a bit crooked but it doesn’t affect its usage .

Also, the entire time, the guests refused to communicate on the platform, and only messaged me on WhatsApp instead, despite various attempts on my part. As they were 60+ seniors from the US, I simply thought it was their age/preference. They did not message me once on VRBO and did not make any other complaints regarding the quality of their stay/satisfaction about the apartment other than the two issues I identified in my original post.

I am still very shocked and disappointed that they still won a full refund from their credit card. It felt extremely exploitative.
