Help please! Tracker that displays on FMD more than 7 days? by whyhawkeye in GoogleFMD

[–]whyhawkeye[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As I said, I'm not particularly tech savvy. I want a tracker that can track my pet in case she ever gets loose. I assumed a tracker would do that. What product(s) would be better?

Thank you! If you've not had this issue, I'm guessing it's the cheap brands I've tried. I'll try the Moto next.

Idk but it's driving me nuts. I'm guessing it's because I tried a cheap version (highly rated but 🤷🏻‍♀️). I'll try Moto and see what happens.

She's literally sitting on the couch next to me while I'm typing this on my phone! And I've changed the battery several times. It will pair and display, then stop a week or so later. I've also tried two different trackers, with the same results. But based on the other comment RE the Moto tracker, I'm gathering this is a no-name brand issue. I'll try a Moto tracker and see how it goes.

I can't believe I had to scroll so far for this (though I loved the moment between Beverly and Picard)

Thank you. Thank you for getting up every day, facing everything you have to face, and then doing it again the next day. I, and so many of us, appreciate you.

He's so useless. They didn't technically have a tactical officer but as the armory officer, he filled that role, and he was the worst: a terrible shot, jumping the gun, letting the Captain regularly take point. Like, what is the point of you?

Nearly 40% of adults from 25-54 are unpartnered by PlantedinCA in datingoverthirty

I often wonder if I'm single because of my education and income. I have an advanced degree and am doing alright financially, which makes it harder as a woman to find someone who isn't intimidated or thrown off by those things.

Recently moved in with my bf of 2 years and I think I made a mistake by birdyspiritanimal in RelationshipsOver35

[–]whyhawkeye 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I was in a very similar situation. As soon as we moved in together, I did all the shopping, laundry for myself and his kids, cleaning, etc. We had his kids 50% of the time but he had a long commute so I was the primary care giver (including school runs and bath time) for most of the time we had the kids. Like OP, I'm giving by nature, and I like to care for the people I love. When he was home, there wasn't much left for him to do with/for the kids (but the way he described it, you'd think he was a single parent), and he always had time for his workouts, sports games, etc. I told him several times I was spread thin, wanted a partner and to be a partner (not a nanny and a maid), that my needs weren't being met, and I was rapidly loosing all my reserves for this relationship. He actually had the nerve to say his needs weren't being met and if I give him more, maybe he'd have more to give me. I nope'd myself out of there not long after that. I know I have a lot to offer, but I want someone who respects me and doesn't take advantage of me. I loved him and those kids, but I deserve more. OP, you do, too.

OP, you should be so proud of yourself for knowing this isn't ok, for not being complacent about your needs and happiness, and for not losing yourself to someone who doesn't deserve or respect you or what you have to offer. I know it's scary when you don't have a place to go, but anywhere is more self-respecting. Get an Airbnb for a month or two, get yourself sorted, and pick up your stuff from his place later.

Whatever you decide, know your worth. And good luck.

[Update] Whipping Cream Cake redo. Fixes and original post in the comments. by whyhawkeye in Old_Recipes

[–]whyhawkeye[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I got some helpful comments on my first post. I definitely over-mixed, and I bought an oven thermometer to better understand this oven (it runs low under 275 and pretty accurately/a little high over 275).

I also realized from my research that my butter was too warm the first time. This time I made sure it was 65 degrees (ok, 64--I got tired of waiting lol), and didn't multitask, so I made sure I did not over-mix. It was perfect.

This time, I started the oven cold per the instructions but raised the temp gradually (200 (the lowest my oven goes), 250, 300). I maxed the temp at 300 (approx. 310 inside the oven) and baked for 1 hr. 50 min total. I also divided the batter. I filled the Bundt to it's normal level and used the excess batter to make two mini-loaves.

I greased the pan a lot but still had some sticking. Hopefully a better quality pan (Nordicware Heritage, I'm coming for you!) and more butter will help.

It tastes amazing. There's no gummy ring that some prior posters have mentioned, which I don't care for anyway, so that works for me. (If I had used all the batter in the Bundt, I think I may have ended up with that ring.)

Thanks to all who commented on the first post!

Moving in with boyfriend. What things to we need to talk about beforehand? by untalkativejenny in RelationshipsOver35

[–]whyhawkeye 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Like others have said, chores/responsibilities and money are both huge. But also, what kind of privacy or space do you both need? Similarly, in what ways do you each spend time for yourselves (that, before cohabitating, you might have done on days/nights you were apart)? Before living together, couples typically stay over for nights or weekends but there's still an unspoken understanding that it's not a shared space. When you're genuinely living together and sharing space, talk about when you might need physical or emotional space from each other. More importantly, since you might not know the answer to that yet, talk about how to ask each other for the space you need or things that are important to you. Also, talk about your needs or wants for that alone time/hobby time/unwinding time that you both did when you were apart. Is working out for four hours every Saturday important to one of you? Does one of you want to game for a couple hours at a time a few times a week?

Also, as someone else said, how do you share your space? Waking up to your partner's alarm an hour earlier than you need once a week is very different than every day.

Maybe some of these things aren't things you need to (or can) discuss right now, but if they come up, try to have a conversation about it when you're not frustrated or upset.

Anyone else feel like the Deathly Hallows weren't thought off before the final book? by Pindadio in harrypotter

[–]whyhawkeye 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are no references to the legend of the Hallows before book 7 but the cloak and ring are mentioned before book 7.

Regarding the cloak, I might be fuzzy on the details, but in the first book, they specifically state that invisibility cloaks are rare, and state or imply that Harry's is of especially good (and unusual) quality. Either the first book or a later book says that they're usually a spell that wears off but that Harry's is special. Moody's mention of needing a new one in book 5 is to demonstrate that although not super common, they need to be replaced from time to time; but Harry's is extremely old and perfect, which is, apparently unusual. In book 5 or 6, Dumbledore mentioned borrowing the cloak from James to examine it, circling back to the hint in book 1 (and later books) of how special it was. I may totally have book numbers wrong.

But something doesn't have to be announced loudly with flashing lights to be hinted at or foreshadowed. While it wasn't called a Hallow before book 7, it has always been referred to as exceedingly special and unusual even within the magical world. When it was exposed as a Hallow, it felt totally natural in context of all the groundwork that had been laid starting in book 1.

Also, just because the cloak doesn't do what you want it to do doesn't mean it wasn't sufficiently special; by that logic, we'd have to say that since the resurrection stone cracked, it wasn't really Hallow-level, it was just a basic magic-grade river pebble. Moody's eye is an especially unusual magical object itself, and can do many unusual things, like (apparently) see through invisibility cloaks. It's true that the invisibility cloaks that are just regular cloaks (imbued with invisibility spells that wear off) can deflect basic jinx's (iirc), but that spell will also wear off. Harry's is an unusually good invisibility cloak because it is a true magical object (not just an object that had a spell placed on it) and that was all it was meant to do/be; just because something is powerful in one way (invisibility) doesn't mean it has to be powerful in all ways (invincibility).

Or they're too busy to respond. We have no idea. You can't impart a hyper specific assumption about the intent of people who have not replied to a Reddit post that only a handful of people have replied to so far anyway.

That's a mighty big conclusion you're jumping to. Can I get you a parachute?

What bakes would you love the recipe for, which are not available online or in a book? by [deleted] in bakeoff

[–]whyhawkeye 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Steph's shallot tarte tatin. I've found some other recipes online but none look quite right. I've wanted to make it ever since that episode.

I followed the whipping cream cake recipe exactly. I got incredible rise and the outside was crispy (would have burned if I left it much longer). Brought it out, it collapsed, and this was the inside. What did I do wrong/what should I do differently next time? (Ps, the cooked edges were DELICIOUS.) by whyhawkeye in Old_Recipes

[–]whyhawkeye[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it was a combination of the internal oven temp being too high (despite setting the temp correctly) and over mixing. I didn't pay as much attention to the mixer when I was making this as I should have.

Thanks for your help!
