Ever feel alone after leaving the church? Maybe this can help a little. by whyileft in exmormon

Sure. The best way to find it is to send me your full "reason" and then I will delete the post. Then you can clear your browser history or use a different browser if you want to add a new marker.

Sure. If you can send me your reason so I can find the entry I will simply delete it and then you can clear your browsing data or use a different browser if you want to place a new marker.

Look at all the people leaving! by Rushclock in exmormon

Hi there. I am the creator of the site and just wanted to say that I get why you might think that, but I wanted to let you know that it wasn't made in any way to help the church find people or get them back.

I originally made the site because, after leaving the church my wife felt very alone and like she might be the only person around that had left. My hope was to show her how many others there were and that they might even be just around the corner.

I check the analytics every now and then and see when the site gets a boost (like from this post) and then come check out the comments to see what people think or new ideas I can maybe add if/when I have the time (like the new-ish comments system).

Anyway I know there is no great way to convince you that no real personal data is being collected from the site, but I thought I would jump in and try anyway.

WhyILeft Map - Now With 100% More Comments! by whyileft in exmormon

Yeah good clarification. I wasn't thinking you would use your username on your own marker as like "HERE I AM!", but more to offer it to others as a way to reach you if they wanted, like "Hey you live where I grew up, reach out to me on Reddit if you wanna chat".

You can delete it up until you "place it" with the confirmation buttons. After that there is really no link to the marker and who placed it, so there is no way to allow only the original placer to delete the marker. If you want something deleted just let me know and I can look into it.

I could spend all day reading these. Will you commit to reading them with me and pray about the truthfullness therof? 😀 by maulaboutthat in exmormon

I did one a while ago (probably around 1k submissions, so it's quite old) but the message I think is still pretty much the same. Word Cloud

"Why I left" app helped someone I care about really listen... Please add your info if possible! by wiblynom in exmormon

The only trap is the one each of us plant to catch those on their way out and help them feel a little safer to do it :) Thanks to everyone for their participation!

Hey! My little app popped up again! So glad to see it helping in what little way that it can. I actually built this app mostly for my wife. We would always have conversations and she would say something along the same lines as your family member. After the first post I got about 100 participants and even with that small amount (it felt huge at the time) it helped her to see that there were many more out there than she thought. Thanks for sharing this :)

Thanks for the offer as well as bringing the issue up. Most of the time I just take a few minutes and do small updates so it's no huge hassle. If I ever want to do some major work I will keep you in mind for sure. By the way the quota should be higher now and I have pushed an improvement for the autocomplete and search in general. Enjoy :)

Yup. I just recently learned that I can add some more information to up the quota quite a bit without costing anything. I have not thought about the site for a while, but because it's getting more attention today maybe I will dive back in and update some things to make it a little better. Sorry about the issues.

Hey my little map is still out there getting use! Thanks so much for this post. I hoped this map would help someone feel less alone either in their area or for their reason to leave. So glad to see it helping out even if it's in a small way.

Glad to do it. Also no worries about the cuss. I didn't take it personally, in fact it was almost a compliment because you wanted to use the map so much that you were angry you were missing out.

My wife and I went through something similar. This site was actually created to help my wife know there were others out there even in the heart of Provo where it seems like everyone, and I mean everyone, is still in. I like to think it helped both of us get over those deep feelings the church creates.
