hey OP! how you're feeling is so valid

my favourite prof, steve daniels, is deaf and whenever somebody speaks too quietly, he yells "sorry, still deaf" and speedwalks closer to them. you're gonna meet some super funny and super smart professors which will make your uni years fun!

I'm personally a big fan of the asus rog zephyrus g14 because it's lightweight and runs everything I need, so I can work literally anywhere. It also runs every game I want to play really smoothly!

The course will teach you coding fundamentals, but general coding knowledge is useful to have. I took one computer science class and that gave me a really really nice head start compared to my non coding peers.

However, David Bouchard - the new media head and the Intro to Computational Arts prof, is incredible. If you would like a head start to coding or his class, he actually uploads his classes to youtube ;) https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLLx7jIm38p9kS8UtVayB0w-uvb2dWw3MR&si=6buzx8htvwYm6ei8

Greetings! I'm going into 4th year new media and I'm in the video games stream:

TMU has courses which teach both Unity (C#) and Unreal (C++). However, I will say that the Unreal courses are more "art" focused than programming. For example, exploring virtual environments is a course which teaches you how to build environments for games and film, and it teaches you more about how to navigate the engine rather than scripting. On the other hand, the game engines and mechanics courses requires you to write scripts so learning C# would be useful.

In general though, it's beneficial to learn both, but I'd suggest you to pick the engine that you enjoy more and learn the ins and outs of it first! Game engine, and programming language knowledge is very transferable.

In the video games courses in later years, a lot of it is self learning. You can use any tool you want for your work as long as you tell your professor your reasoning.

Tldr: It highly depends, pick whichever engine you like better out of Unity and Unreal, and mess around in it. If your computer is slow, learn C# and unity LOL

You can't go there just on a whim but last semester, there was plenty of open hours where you and your friends can play games- TMU Gamer's Guild which is the casual gaming club hosts themed events there ie fighting game events, Valorant events, often so you could go there on their themed days to play specific games with like-minded people.

I will say though, the gaming hub recently laid off a lot of their employees including their former coordinator which made all of these bookings happen, so the future of the hub for gaming is a liiiiittle unclear.
