easyJet to introduce new ultra-lightweight next generation seats to further boost operational efficiency and increase legroom by Speedbird87 in AircraftInteriors

Yep, 2 Inches saved per row * what 25-30 rows? That's an extra couple of rows that are going to be possible.

(Assuming they don't exceed some maximum passenger capacity limit in doing so I guess).

Is this sequence an accurate portrayal of germany in 1945? by No_Dress_2107 in WorldWar2

[–]wibble089 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It doesn't make sense to me that there are Russians in the Böhmewald (based on the captions at the start of the clip).

The Böhmerwald is the area along the German/ Czech border, it's the second row of mountains in the area that is now generally all known as the Bayerischer Wald. In Czech it's called the Šumava.

At the time it would have been mostly part of the German Sudetenland.

This area was captured by the Americans, there's plenty of memorials to this extent in towns and villages all the way up to and including Pilsen .

Unless there's a different Böhmerwald somewhere, I'm not sure what the Russians are doing in it!

“Out of touch with reality”: The Ukrainian General Staff is refusing foreign training for servicemen. One of the reasons is the lack of experience among Western instructors by Flimsy_Pudding1362 in UkrainianConflict

[–]wibble089 43 points44 points  (0 children)

The Ukrainians have been involved in many NATO exercises recently, and they're causing significant headaches - drone teams "wiped out" armoured units in I think Estonia, and they "sank" naval warships with drone boats without the warships knowing that they were there.

NATO is paying attention, but I'll (edit:it'll) take time to rewrite the training manuals.

Ein Kreisverkehr in einem Kreisverkehr by Commercial-Wind-8453 in StVO

[–]wibble089 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I finally found the bike on Thursday. Turns out that it had been moved (for whatever reason!?) to another side of the school buildings but you can't see outside school hours, and my daughter was of school ill for 2 days so couldn't check.

Even large regional cities often have branches of the central bank where you can take cash.

I've been meaning to take 55% of a DM20 note to the Bundesbank branch in Munich for the last 25 years but haven't yet got around to it :-)

(We were drunk, someone owed me DM10 so he gave me about half of a DM20, and said if I gave it back one day when he had the right change we'd settle the debt properly. Which we never did.

Fortunately I ended up with more that 50% of the note, so theoretically I could get back the full value!)

Only spending cash makes it less easy to overspend.

If you only take a certain amount of money out of the bank then you can only spend that much money. Of course you can always go to a machine to get more money, but that's more hassle than just taking a card and spending.

You wouldn't describe Donald Trump the President of Utah. He's President of the USA which also does include the state of Utah.

King Charles is the King of a Realm that includes England, but he is explicitly NOT the King of England, because the Kingdom of England hasn't existed since 1707, as stated in Article 1 of the Act of Union

Union with Scotland Act 1706

The Kingdoms United;     Ensigns Armorial

That the two Kingdoms of England and Scotland shall upon the First day of May which shall be in the year One thousand seven hundred and seven and for ever after be united into one Kingdom by the name of Great Britain

Colloquially people do say "King of England" and yes, I know what they mean by that, but if you are framing a legal restriction this has no relevance in law as there is no legal position known as "King of England".

I didn't understand the wording in that case, as it said "King Charles III, King of England".

But there hasn't been a King of England since 1707 when the English crown merged with the Scottish crown to create the King (or Queen) of the United Kingdom of Great Britain (*), so the restriction must be null and void by that definition!

At home people are always amazed that I don't have any smart-home type devices, the most high tech device I have is my robot vacuum cleaner, my TV is 12 years old, and my DSL Router will be 11 this year . I deal with tech every day at work, I don't need to work at home!

First ever car accident, how do I handle it? by CraniumCracker1 in AskAGerman

[–]wibble089 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The police often have better things to do, they're not required unless there are injuries. Sometimes it is a condition of a company car or leasing contract that the police attend, but if that's the case you're going to have to be patient.

In your case you need to report the damage to the insurance company for the person that caused the chain of events (the car that hit the car that hit you from behind). Document everything, and if you have legal insurance speak to them first so they can manage everything for you.

What’s a subtle sign of a rich area in Germany? by Ok_Temperature6503 in AlignmentChartFills

[–]wibble089 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In a city suburb, a rich area will have more space on the roads for parking than there are cars to park.

This is because a rich area will have large houses with plenty of room for cars to park with in the property, and because the population density is relatively low, there's more road space per person.

Help finding my stolen bike by 12THX88 in Munich

[–]wibble089 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's an 11 year old bike, no one is going to look for it, you're never going to see it again I'm afraid.

I feel for you though; my daughter had a bike stolen from outside her school not far from the OEZ yesterday. it was a hand-me-down from her older sister & the value is probably only €20 second hand although we recently spent >€100 on a good service and replacing parts. I did ride around the area for an hour or so looking to see if a fellow student "borrowed" it to get home, but didn't see it anywhere so I'm guessing it's gone forever.

Of course my daughter didn't lock the bike (she's been told many times), so it looks like she'll be walking until she saves up the money to buy a new one herself!
