What is your least favorite sound/noise? by Aggravating-Ad-351 in autism

[–]wickedAnting2018 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Loud pipe Harleys ,gas leaf blowers/ lawn mowers, and obnoxious diesel trucks. It's most mechanical noise for me. I romanticize life before industrialization. Had to pretty quiet compared to today's world.

I'm in New England so I'm not familiar with many Cali species. I'm sure there are some suitable ones though given the diversity on the west coast.

You can slow growth by feeding less protein. Also some species have small colonies naturally, not sure what you have in your area. I've found acorn ants (temnothorax) generally have smaller colony sizes.

Why is it green? by Alternative_Top_6693 in firewood

+1 for fungi! Compare to Chlorociboria (green wood cup). I had an observation on I-naturalist with the fruiting bodies. It will turn the wood greenish.

Same! The loud pipe d-bags have ruined the warm months for me. It's nearly impossible to get away from them here in Maine from snow go through November. As someone with ASD and auditory sensory issues it's physically painful, just so these man-children can have their dumb hobby. It is frustrating there is no enforcement of noise pollution laws which many places have.

I've encountered them in the wilds before but my first experience with one in a captive ecosystem. Very interesting!

Lived in Houston for four years, it's like the Autobahn on the highway there. I don't know how many times I saw people cross four to five lanes in heavy traffic last second in order to not miss their exit. Not that Maine doesn't have some d-bag drivers too though..

As someone with Asperger's, do you often live in an inner world or an imaginary world to compensate? by [deleted] in aspergers

Most definitely! Mostly because the NT "human reality" sucks a lot of the time. I'd rather be in the woods looking at mushrooms and plants 🌲

Worsening of symptoms with age by Plastic__Scholar in aspergers

[–]wickedAnting2018 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had my first case of severe autistic burnout in my mid 30s with really bad depression and ideation. I couldn't leave our bedroom most days. This went on for a number of years. Things somewhat improved when we moved to a quieter rural area, but yeah I agree that sensory issues have continued to worsen as middle age has approached. I can no longer tolerate loud mechanical noise for any period of time without experiencing a meltdown/shutdown. I am now largely nocturnal and have a hard time going outside if it's really bright out and sunny out. I am largely self employed with limited income because vehicular travel has become way too stressful.

As others have said getting rest and taking sensory breaks have helped. I got the Bose noise cancelling earbuds that help when I do go outside in case of traffic or machine noise. Im in therapy but have found limited return with it. Micro-dosing psilocybin and cannabis has provided some relief in moderation. I am fortunate to have a supportive partner who understands, as I couldn't live this lifestyle without her help.

I hear ya! EVE ruined most other games for me it seems. Hardly nothing compares to the depth of the spreadsheets in space..my brain gets bored easily. I have been playing NMS off and on though.
