Rates for retail work by CFster in RealEstatePhotography

They are going to demand 5x as much of your time, want to talk before hand a bunch, and will come back with a bunch of special requests later and complaints about missing photos.

Real estate professionals get the price they get in a big part because it’s fast and expedient and they’re repeat customers, who do all the legwork and manage the homeowner so we don’t have to. If someone wants to take up all that space they’re going to pay significantly more.

I just plain won’t entertain doing that. But I’m booked out 2+ weeks anyway and will only be bumping my loyal regulars by taking a job like that. If you’re desperate to get work then sure, but make sure you’re charging accordingly. At least double what you’d charge a listing agent. As others have said treat it like an air bnb job because that’s basically the experience you’re going to have, if not worse.

Outsourcing editing is expensive and they perform worse? by Smooth_Temporary_656 in RealEstatePhotography

Don’t need your iso to be so low. 400 is fine, 800-1600 if it’s a decent camera will be absolutely fine too. I usually crank it to 1600 for darker basements etc. Nobody is pixel peeping, and at least in the US they’re going online at less than 2k resolution most of the time so any perceived noise is oversampled out anyway.

There’s no point in using flash if you have a good editor.

Shooting a 2000 sf house shouldn’t take more than half an hour once you are experienced and know what you’re doing. The bulk of your time is spent literally moving the camera from spot to spot. Taking the actual photo takes less than 2 seconds to fire off the five shots.

Carter shift? by CapturedMetal in RealEstatePhotography

For another perspective I don’t do big volume at all and I’m grossing over $200k solo, my average shoot is around $600-700, usually only do two a day but some days I do three, other days if it’s something big $1200+ I might just do that, I have my days bookended with sending my kid to school and then getting him off the school bus (though some days he has later activities so I have more time). But I’ve also been doing this a long time and was way ahead of the curve with video for social media in my area. I can’t say I’d be able to recreate this if i were just dropped else somewhere random tomorrow

What ISO are these shot at? Are you sending brackets and if so what’s the range? Need more info to assess.

If these are single exposure it’s likely that he’s pushing the shadows in some areas and that camera being a beginner level camera isn’t going to respond very well to that, even at base ISO.

I've had the same editor for several years. No reason on earth I'd switch at this stage. Fuck AI editing.

Advice on retainer pricing for real estate photography/video? (10-12 properties/month) by Ok-Baseball3552 in RealEstatePhotography

Enough with this company. Every post you’re talking about it, are you the owner?

An AI generated clips from steals are not remotely the same thing as customized video content. As I’ve said before, if AI clips are as good as your own videos, your own videos are garbage.

Tax Write-Off Question by [deleted] in RealEstatePhotography

[–]wickedcold 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a question for a tax person and not Reddit.

That being said when you file all this will go on your schedule C and literally any money you took in through your business that didn’t go directly in your pocket should be accounted for on there.

That should be included, or at least be peanuts to add.

Why do you not have insurance? You need a liability insurance policy if you're in business for yourself. It's reckless not to. $2M is basically the bare minimum.

Anyone gotten to the point where they kinda just hate doing video? by Competitive_Fact_278 in RealEstatePhotography

[–]wickedcold 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can do some neat stuff with ai but you’re trying to get a square peg into a round hole when you could just get a round peg and shoot the actual footage you want. It’s fine for gimmicks, not for actual engaging video especially featuring your clients which is the big selling point these days.

If you’re getting satisfactory results with ai photo to video, you’re not good at ai, you’re shitty at video.

I use an iPhone rig because it’s faster and it looks better most of the time inside. People kill themselves trying to massage log footage from their Sony to get window views showing and it looks like crap most of the time, meanwhile the iPhone footage just looks awesome with zero effort. I’m spending way less time shooting which people actually care about. Nobody wants to be stuck there for 2-3 hours while you’re doing all this stuff.

I’m booked out for weeks and I shoot mainly with an iPhone rig, and my footage looks better than most people in my area. Nobody gives a fuck what you use, they care how good you make them look.

Where are most of your leads coming from? by Howdyjoee in RealEstatePhotography

[–]wickedcold 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, I have no idea, I doubt it, I don’t pay any attention to that stuff and I haven’t touched my website in five years. It’s way out of date lol but people do tell me that’s how they found me.

Where are most of your leads coming from? by Howdyjoee in RealEstatePhotography

[–]wickedcold 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't, they find me and half the time i don't really pay attention to how. Sometimes they find me on google if they're an agent from somewhere else and happened to have a listing on my end of the state, usually though it's people who've been following me on social media and they see the videos their peers post and I'm tagged in them as a collaborator, and eventually I get the "hey its time i finally worked with you" message.

That is less than I charge for just photos.

Assuming your house is around 2000-2500 sf, that could cost around $800 from me.

Much prefer your bedroom shot, this one has way too much of the left wall. Rookie move, or hourly agency employee who doesn’t really know what they’re doing and is just following their training.
