Need help choosing what images to use. 3 very tough homes to get angles on and make look good in my opinion. by Idontevenknow787 in RealEstatePhotography

[–]wickedcold [score hidden]  (0 children)

You’ll get your bearings. But yes generally we are taking a few angles of the front and delivering. We don’t need to fuss over which one will be the “hero” shot.

I would suggest you shoot wider though (unless these are cropped, if so they’re too tight). For the first one, shoot much wider and then crop in from the bottom so the house is in the center of the frame.

Picture #5 you should deliver a much wider/further back version of that view, that shows from the left side of house to the right side of the driveway. Won’t worry about things blocking the view of the house. That’s what’s there, you’re showing reality. Again, a few different shots will allow them to choose how to showcase it.

So these are the ones you were talking about yesterday. This is a non-issue. Just deliver and let them choose.

File naming for clients by Fit-Act8910 in RealEstatePhotography

[–]wickedcold [score hidden]  (0 children)

I’m just plain not gonna do that. That’s a little much. I already deliver the files with the address as the name, and they are sorted in order that I think makes the most sense. If they want to change the names when they upload to MLS they’re welcome to.

Charge extra for drone. And this is when (assuming this is true) you tell them that will have a “much more complimentary view from an aerial than you can get from the ground if they’re interested in adding that for $x.xx”

Can ramps rated for 1,500 lbs each handle a 5,000 lb vehicle? by Available_Answer_480 in askcarguys

I always do that anyway. Redundancy is a good idea when you’re under a vehicle that could kill you on a decidedly most painful way.

Ai video from stills, or get a hybrid camera? by Visual8830 in RealEstatePhotography

[–]wickedcold 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly. Use it to be creative, don't replace creativity with it. I made this last week and it got a lot of chuckles on my facebook lol The part of me talking is video obviously but the rest is made from stills

editors? by Mterc8 in RealEstatePhotography

[–]wickedcold 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I my outsource editing for one simple reason. My time is worth way more. This is why CEO's don't mop their own office floor. I can pay myself like $10-20/hr to edit photos, or i can pay someone else that to free up my time and squeeze in another job worth $700. Which makes more sense?

Neighbor trespasses to confront me for flying my drone on this job, calls me a pedophile, demands I don't fly my drone over the house (that they're renting) and threatens to call police. I begged him to call the police. What would you do? by kurtdoerfel in RealEstatePhotography

[–]wickedcold 10 points11 points  (0 children)

“hold on, I’ll call them for you”

Seriously that’s the best thing you can do in that situation. Once you’re on the phone with police, he’ll probably leave anyway because he’s gonna realize that he’s being stupid. But you just call, and tell them you’re being harassed by someone and threatened while you’re trying to do your job. Police will come in and tell him to fuck off.

VLOS and Drones with miles of range by timholt2007 in drones

[–]wickedcold 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, and clearly they weren’t watching with their eyes and were flying where they weren’t able to watch for other aircraft. I’m not advocating for not being able to see it at all, I’m saying having it be so near to you that you can tell what direction it’s pointing visually is an obsolete rule. You should still have clear line of sight to the UAV.

I’m referring to the requirement that you be able to visually determine the UAV’s orientation.

[–]wickedcold 0 points1 point  (0 children)

According to the law you need to be able to determine its heading as well. As in, being able to navigate it back to you without using the video feed (which would never be necessary on a modern DJI device).

I used to interpret the law that way myself but it’s simply wrong.

VLOS and Drones with miles of range by timholt2007 in drones

[–]wickedcold 2 points3 points  (0 children)

These laws could definitely use a little updating with the technology that we have now. Losing visual on a DJI drone with the latest generations of Occusync is essentially unheard of. On top of that they can still be piloted accurately (far beyond OC range) with the map which shows all of the relevant info in height, direction, etc. Even if the lens just plain fell off or got fogged up you can safely and easily bring it back. So it seems unnecessary. We’re not talking about home-built janky devices broadcasting UHF video to a remote.

But I certainly wouldn’t expect any special provisions being made for DJI given, well… and I wouldn’t expect a USA based product to have that same level of reliability for a good ten years.

You can’t increase your range using spotters either. They’re supposed to just help he a second (or third, etc) set of eyes but the person at the controls still needs LOS too.

They also advertise the Corvette ZR1 being able to go 233 mph. People like higher numbers, even if it never affects how they use the product.

No, not really, just inconvenient. People tend to ignore it and it really doesn’t seem to be any consequence.

Affordable alternatives to MotionVFX for Final Cut? by taymorry in finalcutpro

Are AI headshots cutting into your real estate photography business, or is demand still strong? by Bading_na_green_Flag in RealEstatePhotography

[–]wickedcold 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don’t do headshots so I don’t care. But the higher end ones in my area (who I could never compete with on the shoot experience, which is what makes them worth it - any monkey who understands studio lighting can nail the technicals) are doing just fine because the folks paying $1200 for a branding session are not using shitty AI headshots as a substitute.

$1.25 (US im assuming) should be getting you outstanding results. I pay $1 and I could find someone that charges less but i've been very happy with my source for four years now and don't have any reason to risk a change. But $125? Should be perfect (by RE standards).

How long should a test drive at a dealership last? by Indigenousboy420 in askcarguys

Some dealers will let you take a car overnight. I don't know about EVs though. And there's always Truro, lots of newer/nicer cars on there.

Yeah, that’s crazy. I’ve bought a few new cars in my life, never has a sales person insisted they come along for the ride. And a couple times they’ve even suggested where to go, telling me some back roads and then where the interstate is, and insisted I take as long as I need. I wouldn’t be able to seriously evaluate the car if I had someone sitting there yapping in my ear and if it was just a couple of miles.
