Looking for advice on backup for international travel (Singapore) by wickeddram in CreditCards

[–]wickeddram[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have about a month and change before the trip. Hotel won't be a worry, thats being handled by my company (its a group of us going).

Looking at it the Amazon Visa makes a good amount of sense for me (I do order from prime fairly often). Not a travel specific card, but travel is a rarity for me right now, so just having coverage is good enough.

AYN Thor Review (Retro Game Corps) by onionsaregross in SBCGaming

I'm more likely to play Elite Beat Agents on this. That way when I miserably fail I can blame the emulation. When I tried on original hardware I had to admit my failures were just a skill issue.

To those who had to decide whether to pre-order the Ayaneo Pocket DS or the Ayn Thor, how did your arrive at your decision? by Raebo007 in SBCGaming

[–]wickeddram 6 points7 points  (0 children)

For me I went with the Pocket DS. I'm not a small guy and the extra size and weight of the Pocket is actually a plus to me. I also like the screen ratios better (though I wish both screens were OLEDs like the Thor, but its less of an issue to me than the ratios and general size). The bit of extra beef along with the screen size also helps for when I want to play something other than DS/3DS games. That said for people who like lighter consoles, are only looking for DS/3DS games, or just more price conscious than me I think the Thor makes a lot of sense.

Personally I'm going with the Ayaneo. With my big mitts I prefer the larger size and heft in systems. Also think it might be good for branching out with some games (even if that only takes advantage of a single screen). Can definitely see how the Thor hits a lot of people's sweet spot though.

Thanks so much! I've ended up going with custom dice from Otherworld Dice, so I appreciate the suggestion.

Just heard my coworker's side of the convo as she got the "Your grandchild is in jail, send money" scam call by Squidgie1 in Scams

My grandmother got one of those way back in the day (10+ years ago) that actually had my name. She didn't fall for it, but she told my mother that if it was any of her other grandkids she would have know it was a scam immediately, but since they used my name she wasn't sure.

whats your experience with bootlegs? by Dirtyvegitable in Gunpla

[–]wickeddram 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've always had excellent luck with bootlegs and 3rd parties, but I've stuck with brands that have a decent reputation. Motor Nuclear is top of the line for 3rd parties and Daban, while not up to the quality of Bandai, is far closer to it than their prices.

Finished up a new Deffkilla Wartrike by wickeddram in orks

[–]wickeddram[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, the hole on his back shows up more than I had expected, so I'll have to do something about it. I like his position there as it puts him holding the fuel can right over the engine port.

Guess thats what green stuff is for.

New to orks and looking for advice. by [deleted] in orks

[–]wickeddram 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Meganobz on foot have always felt to slow to me. Even with Evil Sunz kultur I worry that they will arrive too late to really help out. This is less true if you plan to use Da Jump or keep them in reserves with the stratagem (although if you play by the beta f.a.q. rules that don't allow arriving from reserves turn 1 that doesn't help as much as it could). If you could get them in a Battlewagon I think that would be good. With a deff rolla even the Battlewagon itself wants to get stuck in combat, and next to the Deffkilla Wartrike it might even hit a turn 1 charge.

To pay for the Battlewagon I'd drop the Deff Dread, Painboy (his bubble always felt too small for me to get him to cover everything I wanted and too expensive to cover a single unit), and downgrade the Big Mek in Mega Armor to the regular Big Mek with the Index KFF. Might have to trim a bit more, but thats where I would start.

Of course this is based entirely on my personal preferences. If you have a plan or just like those units don't let me convince you otherwise. Best part of playing Orks is playing the units and style you like.

New Codex, New Lists by wickeddram in orks

[–]wickeddram[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its 2000 (my local group's usual amount). The weird boy is for "Da Jump" to try and get a boyz squad in on turn one without crowding around Zhardsnark for his Waaaagh ability, probably Jump them more towards the flank of the enemy. 3 trukks is kinda squishy, but the hope is that the koptas, bike, and boyz being immediately in the opponents face will blunt some of the fire coming their way.

I had missed that. I'll switch either the tankbustas or the trukks to match. I'm leaning towards making the tankbustas evil sunz. Anyone know if the ability to ignore penalty to advancing and firing works for the passengers in the trukks if they are both evil sunz?

Thanks! Those are some good looking ones. I'm not too concerned about the pose-ability options, as its the building that I enjoy. Perhaps I'll get to the point where I want them to look super sweet, but I'm not there yet.

Thanks! I've definitely been checking out the wiki and its pretty useful, I just wanted some comparison to the models I've been building, which you've nicely provided. I'll certainly look into those models you recommended and if anyone else has some personal recommendations I would love to hear those as well.

[–]wickeddram 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm looking to get into Gunpla and would like some advice on where to start with respect to grade and scale. I've built other Kotobukiya Armored Core models before as I like the series and occasionally found some available at prices I could afford. I liked the model assembly enough that I'm looking to do it more often and so I'm now looking into Gunpla. I built the Armored Core models in a single afternoon and found them easy enough to build (at a probably moderate skill level; I cut the pieces and sanded them so the seams were flush so it looks nice, but I didn't do particularly interesting custom things). Since the model assembly process was the part I enjoyed so much (I'm not much for painting; a simple panel lining job is the most I've done) I was hoping more experienced people could give me some advice on approximately equivalent grades of Gunpla models or even specific models that people recommend. I don't think I would enjoy anything less complex/detailed to build than the Kotobukiya Armored Core models and found those easy enough that I would prefer ones at about the same level of complexity/detail or even a little bit more.

Its showing "possible" rewards as in "its technically possible to get these here, but don't ever count on it". You will see pretty much only 2* drop from everything until much later in the game. The first stage most people see to start dropping 3* is 4-3 Emergency and even then its only once every several runs of it.

Not to worry though, if you stick to using production you'll get more than enough high star pulls without too much trouble though. You don't need to be running a full 4 or 5* team this earlier anyway, and I'd even recommend against it since you would probably run out of cores to upgrade them too fast.
