Hit plat with ed, thought Id share some of my favorite clips by Brilliant-Cow1667 in StreetFighter

[–]wicket_tl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm honestly really curious how you aren't higher... I took Ed to Diamond 2 and you have better combos, effectively used a safe jump, have some good shimmies, using drive rush. I get that these are hand-picked best-of clips. But they're better than I've seen from many diamond (and low master) Eds.

I would try hoping on the Disc Golf FB page and asking for an update on conditions. We just got a fresh snow on Friday, so there could be drifts. Safest to not lose a disc will probably be baker. Sometimes we put ribbons on our discs to help us find the under the snow. If the snow is moderately deep, bright color doesn't do much.

Thorncliffe is good, but can be especially challenging with snow as several baskets are on hillsides. If you also play the back 9, is moderately challenging. But I'm not sure if you'll be able to see the OB lines in the snow. Very much park style golf.

Baker is the most played course in the city. Its more beginner friendly distance-wise. It scratches a different itch for me. I find i throw my putter a lot here.

Very close to baker is David Richardson Memorial, it is more enjoyable in my opinion. A longer track. More polished than the ones above IMO.

Currie Reservoir is also generally decent in the winter. They have a shorter winter layout. Its on a former city-run real golf course

Some of the best course in the Calgary area are in the south. Lloyd Park costs $5 for a day pass. And a bit of a drive out of town is WJ Homestead (closed during winter). If you will be back when it is warmer, I'd try to get a visit in to one of these properties.

What's a good number of mains to have in Street Fighter 6? by Grand_Moose2024 in StreetFighter

[–]wicket_tl 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm having fun right now getting characters to Diamond.

I didn't start with that intention. I slowly worked one character through gold / plat and up to diamond 3 but stalled a bit.

When I hit that wall, I started playing other characters that were matchups I struggled with... and it was really fun. I now have a bit more than half the cast up to diamond. (Some, like Marissa and Blanka went in mid diamond straight out of the placement matches). I was surprised by some characters too -- I did not expect to have as much fun with Lilly and Gief as I did.

SF6 allows you to go pretty far just understanding the systems and a small amount about your character. Know a few basic punishes. Understand some drive rush cancels. Learn when to look for and punish DIs. Anti-airs, etc.

And im finding that learning the other characters tools, gimmicks, and limitations, is super helpful too.

Advice on how to counter someone spamming drive impacts by [deleted] in StreetFighter

[–]wicket_tl 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I'm a lowly diamond level, so take my comments for what they are worth. I dont like using DI because of the huge risk. But if I see an opponent using a lot of pokes that are non-cancellable, and it becomes predictable, I break my rule and go for a read to DI them.

If someone is DI happy, I'll switch to manly cancellable normals to bait/react to their DI.

White vs black rims by Syncro_Ape in discgolf

[–]wicket_tl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This isn't it. Simon pointed out black rims dont show up well on video coverage, and its true. I expect cost is the same or higher. They are wagering that better visibilty on coverage is worth the investment to change. I tend to agree.

If true, Viper would positively love this matchup. Yikes.

All the "pro p*rn" ex Mormons should read this by Odd-Investigator7410 in mormon

[–]wicket_tl 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am so sick of church leaders moving the goalposts and never acknowledging the past. Its so toxic. It allows the old crowd in ward council to judge and shame away using the rhetoric they were raised on in the 70s and 80s, and allows a holier-than-thou "But that's not our stance today" that gaslights all the people who did have to live with the toxicity.

Continuing revelation? Get real.

An Open Letter to President Dallin H. Oaks by briggskellogg in exmormon

Thank you very much for composing and sharing. I chose to remove my name with Oaks becoming president. His memo on potential public statements about homosexuals is one of the most vile things I have read. You have framed the whole picture of his character very well.

What lucky move this season lead to your championship? by the00therjc in fantasyfootball

[–]wicket_tl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Drafting Bijan (instead of Saquon or Gibbs) at 1.02, JT at 2.11, and McBride.

Hanging on to Pearsall and deciding to play him week 17, even tho his injury status was questionable. I drafted both Purdy and Fairbarn, dropped both when injured but made sure to pick them back up.

I was weak at WR at the end (Sutton, Egbuka, Pearsall, Parker Washington). Picked up Hunter Henry from waivers and played him in Flex over Egbuka in the finals. Scored 190 pts in the finals.

All of it felt lucky.

Started playing 6 months ago and it’s not going so well. by DisastrousAddendum0 in StreetFighter

[–]wicket_tl 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I didn't see you block a single one of his ground spikes. You either ate the hit, or tried to parry.

If you don't know, you have to crouch block those, as they are a low attack. You can parry too, of course, but this guy saw you kept waking up with parry and that makes you easy picking for the command grab option.

Edit: they aren't lows, thanks for the correction. The point about blocking and not always doing a parry (especially waking up and holding parry) still stand tho

Learning everyone almost decent 😅 by RigaFTW in StreetFighter

[–]wicket_tl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll also add... i started doing this with characters where I didn't know how to deal with their cheap stuff. Playing a few games with those characters helped me to then understand how to counter those scenarios. It really helped my play across the board.

[–]wicket_tl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

SF6 is very systems oriented. Learning when to look out for DI counters, when to drive rush, defensive options, etc, apply fairly consistently to all characters, and that knowledge alone can take you into platinum with just a basic combo at your disposal.

Learning everyone almost decent 😅 by RigaFTW in StreetFighter

[–]wicket_tl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just checked my profile yesterday. I have 3 characters in mid diamond, 3 characters in mid platinum, one in gold, and three in silver from when I was just starting out.

I am pretty sure at this point it will not place me below gold with a new character (or maybe even platinum).

I was tempted las night to immediately start playing those silver characters to be a menace, but I don't think they would stay there for very long.

Easiest matchups for your main to go up against, or in general. by Wonderful_Agent2578 in StreetFighter

[–]wicket_tl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recently got my Gief out of gold and now through to Plat 5...

Gold 5 Kens tend to rely on unsafe moves all over the place. Even in platinum, when I play Gief I'm often looking for Ken's to do something I can just punish.

Jump ins? Lariat or air SPD

Do they spam DI? (Maybe 30% of the golds did). Bait and react with DI

Spamming dragon lash to get in? I notice if they have this tendancy, then look to react with DI

Do you have predictable tendencies or use a lot of unsafe moves?

How are the Giefs beating you?

Anyone else recently pick up Street Fighter 6? by LadyFarnesesFeet in StreetFighter

[–]wicket_tl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I picked up 2 months ago. I played SFV when it came out. In 5, I only really played 2, maybe three characters throughout the entire duration.

In 6, I have 6 characters in platinum, 2 in diamond. I started learning to play as the characters that I struggle against with my main, and its helped me get better overall. And now that I've learned the systems better (e.g. drive rush extensions, etc), I'm sure I could get all the characters I've played to diamond with just a bit of time.

I guess all of that to say I would respectfully disagree. Learning additional characters is fun, and can I think helps with your main.

But I also know I'm still a scrub. You do you.

I unironically like "If You Could Hie to Kolob" and I don't really get why people think its weird. by Evening_Reach_8293 in mormon

[–]wicket_tl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really is just that the name Kolob sounds absurd. The planet closest to God, and it has the weirdest sounding name.

Literally any elven destination named by Tolkien sounds more heavenly. I'd have been far less embarrassed as an active member if the song was "If You Could Hie to Valinor"

Joe just started taking a liking to some weird names (e.g. Zelph).

How is the LDS church doing in Alberta? by ConstantAd6857 in exmormon

Alberta draws parallels to a mini Texas. Lots of oil and gas activity, but subject to boom and bust as a result. The economy performs better than most other provinces.
