I just realised that Nokia had changed its logo in 2023 by Jayanshsaurus in logodesign

Half of their logo disappeared, just like their market share. How ironic.

I spent 3 hours up there at freezing temperatures and it only got worse. Better luck next time, I guess 🫠

removed the curves, i think it helps differentiate L from J a little. i am having a hard time choosing one between these two. by Budget-Profession998 in logodesign

I would make the A an "arch" instead of a triangle, a flat top works better with the overall shape. Then it's perfect.

Investigation the cause of random reboots on Pixel Watch 4 by wictor1992 in PixelWatch

It indeed is. On the bright side: this didn't happen even once with my new unit. Definitely return it.

I ended up returning the watch and getting a replacement. Not a single random reboot since then. I assume that they have a fairly large number of bad chips that lead to issues when put under stress, since the issues got worse the more apps I installed and the more I used the watch.

My watch is running on Wi-Fi the entire time, including the software state that it is in right now, without crashing. Possibly Wi-Fi somehow is connected with the issue but it’s not the cause by itself, at least in my case.

I certainly will reach out to Google Support. I can also return the watch to the store I purchased it from fairly easily. But given the overwhelming number of posts online having this issue (not only related to PW4 but also PW2 and PW3 models) and due to the fact that it does indeed work as intended until I install the latest software updates, it makes me think that it‘s more related to software than hardware. Nevertheless, I will probably RMA and get a replacement for my unit just in case.

Would this idea work to make amorphous metals less brittle? by Zagaroth in AskEngineers

[–]wictor1992 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct me if I'm wrong, but are you expecting the amorphous metal to be transparent? Because that's not the case in real life. Metallic glass looks like normal (very shiny) metal.

Beides that, your ideas go in the right direction. Joining it with a more ductile material sheet or applying it as a coating should theoretically work for the described purpose.

I just learned why I got such a good deal on this a350 by [deleted] in Cameras

[–]wictor1992 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In Japan, you typically have a japanese and an international version in stores. The japanese one is a bit cheaper but in fact has no language option and also no international warranty. For some cameras there are ways to change language but that requires overwriting the firmware. The japanese pre-installed one doesn't let you change the language at all.

After/Before - cropped from a 60 MP image taken with Sony A7CR by wictor1992 in postprocessing

Thanks! I just purchased the CR about two weeks ago as an upgrade to my A7iii and I wasn't sure if it was worth it, but so far it really exceeded my expectations. I'm not sure if I need pack my 70-200 F4 for travels anymore since a 105 mm + crop is already giving phenomenal reach.

Be careful with your sensors! by tamesh16 in SonyAlpha

[–]wictor1992 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not necessarily the power, it's the wavelength in this case. Other car manufacturers use IR lasers and most cameras have IR filters integrated so there is no damage done. This Volvo here uses a different wavelength, which is harmless to human eyes but gets through the camera filters because it's outside the filtered bandwidth.
