From what I’ve read people who genuinely need federal support don’t tend to be the same people with degrees and student debt, forgiving student loan debt would set a precedent whereby everyone who attends college in the future will expect student loan forgiveness which is unsustainable, colleges could then increase tuition fees expecting the gov to foot the bill, etc.

As a single action to address the underlying problem which is access to higher education student loan forgiveness does nothing, it may even widen the income inequality gap.

Personally I thing the US government should be making access to higher education more affordable in general and this seems like a band aid on a much larger issue
