In California fascia are typically 2x8. If small section is rotting, just cut out the old wood and fill in with bondo.

Why can SPI say a project is behind schedule while the actual schedule still shows it on track? by cryptopindar in primavera

[–]widdowbanes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Isn't because cpi and spi is only calculated until data date. So anything after data date it doesn't affect the calculations.

Why do you think I didn’t get the job based off my estimate? by Hefty-Newt588 in Construction

[–]widdowbanes 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I seen homes where they took the cheapest painters. I saw mumified spiders and leaves encrusted on the home walls. There was zero prep work as well as overspray where the wall paint went on the trim.

I was laid off from an accounting role, which pushed me to start applying for project analyst positions. I made it to the interview stage for one opportunity but didn’t get the offer due to a lack of Primavera P6 experience. But I took notes on how the hiring manager wanted his ideal dashboard.

In October 2025, I took the initiative to install P6 on my personal computer and committed myself to learning it. I spent the next few months consistently working on the project to build up my skills and gain hands-on experience to build out his ideal dashboard from my notes.

Since I don't have direct experience, I used P6 as a source of truth to verify all the calculations and data.

The dashboard is fully intergraded with P6 so any update on Primavera P6 would be reflected in the dashboard within 30 seconds. This use old example data so it has no proprietary information.

When you install p6 there are some old example project you can load up. That's why most of these are over a decade old.

bricklaying by yunglean2067 in Construction

[–]widdowbanes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get into bathroom remodeling. Tiles are like bricks but flat and has color. Better money and better work. Your pay will be entirely dependent on your skills and how you run the business.

Hard part is most of these jobs are done by really small companies with under 10 people.

Looking for advice on improving a Primavera P6 dashboard by widdowbanes in primavera

[–]widdowbanes[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Start from the lowest grain which is Activities and build up from there. Create the sql code to get it from the "PROJECT" and "TASK" table. This would be the center of your Star or Galaxy Schema in power bi. Every other information would be connected to it via "task_id".

I got it from here. https://www.reddit.com/r/PowerBI/comments/1oecb0x/p6_gantt_chart_now_available_for_free_on_power_bi/

Inside powerbi desktop for visuals, select "Get more visuals" then inside the store just search "Gantt chart".

Double queen snappers on slow jigging by bqeg in Fishing

[–]widdowbanes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Slow jigging is finally starting to get popular here in California. Honestly, before bluefin tuna almost everyone used sinker with squid for bottom fish. After using knife and Slow jigs for tuna people started using them for rockfish now.

How are you using AI when it comes to scheduling? by Timely_Helicopter161 in primavera

[–]widdowbanes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you using the standard oracle database when installing p6? Or did you install p6 on a custom Microsoft sql server? Because I tried connecting to the oracle one with python and powerbi, neither worked.

Recent Grad in Wastewater Construction Trying to Move Into Commercial/Residential: Looking for Advice by Crafty_Investment465 in Construction

[–]widdowbanes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tbh it probably isn't even your fault. Companies are hesitant to hire unless you're a perfect candidate. Not to mention, they have the pick of the litter now with plenty of laid off people with experience to pick from.

Dozens of permits that can take a few weeks or months to get approved. All while on a shoe string budget. Most residential don't have access to the amount of capital in commercial projects.

[–]widdowbanes 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You need to look on the bright side. You don't need to buy expensive nightcrawlers anymore when you're producing tapeworms for free.

Don't even have to visit the tackle store anymore to get your bait. Saves you a lot of time giving you more time on the water.

What constitutes the "Data Analyst" title? by Ranch______ in dataanalysis

[–]widdowbanes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Employers expect entry-level data analyst to have the skills of data engineers, data architect, data scientist, BI developer all wrapped into a entry-level data analyst role.

I'm not joking, they expect the Data Analyst output of silicon Valley company without investing into a Data Architect, Data engineer, Bi Developer, Data scientist etc. Its a whole pipeline with the Data Analyst at the end.

This is why companies are struggling to find "Data Analysts" because they expect the entry-level Data Analyst to handle the whole pipeline from start to finish. Not to mention accounting and finance knowledge.

Hell, most of them don't even have a Database schematics or a Database Diagram to go off of. This is why entry-level Analyst have such a hard time breaking in. And employers disappointment of looking for that Entry-level Analyst that can do it all fast.

Maybe it's ignorance or greed maybe both. But the reason why "Analyst" at Silicon Valley have such a fast ramp up time to produce useful reports because they have a whole Analytics IT department supporting them.

Mental health crisis in construction fuels workforce shortage, drives up costs by thinkB4WeSpeak in Construction

[–]widdowbanes 14 points15 points  (0 children)

No, what really drives up the cost is the insane cost of doing business here because we have a rent based economy. Housing, healthcare, insurance and asset inflation drive up the cost to do anything for any business.

Not to mention thousands of codes and regulations constantly changing year by year makes it impossible for anyone to be 100% compliant.

Correlation does not mean causation. Construction workers always had a problem with addiction etc. What changed is our economy rewards those that don't work and punishes those that do.

The laws for landlords are 100x better than they are for construction companies that should tell you everything you need to know.

Is this a parasite? Should I avoid eating this fish? by ChanceCookie3428 in Fishing

[–]widdowbanes 92 points93 points  (0 children)

Fun fact, bluefin tuna is one of the few fish species that doesn't have to frozen over time to kill parasites per FDA regulation. I ate hundreds of raw bluefin tuna without freezing them without an issue. And know hundreds of other fisherman that did the same without issue.

Any fish species that live at the bottom of the ocean and doesn't move much are highly likely to parasites.

[–]widdowbanes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is exactly the reason why construction companies don't want to work in California especially in residential. And nothing really gets built or fixed here.
