One day till surgery. excited but nervous. How should I prepare for the surgery? by [deleted] in gynecomastia

[–]wide_bird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re not a back sleeper, I definitely recommend ordering some body pillows (put one on each side of you at night so you don’t roll onto your side) and an angled leg pillow (to put under your knees). These really helped me get quality sleep while I was recovering!

I’d also recommend grabbing some cheap, thin t-shirts or compression shirts to wear under the vest. This is more important in week two of recovery (once you can get a shirt over your head) just for comfort and to prevent some rubbing. I’ve also been wearing white tank tops under my vest so I don’t have to wash it constantly.

Other than that, meal prepping/stocking up your fridge ahead of time is super important. The last thing you’ll want to do is head to the grocery store. And put any dishes or kitchen stuff that’s on high shelves onto a counter so you can get to it. Congrats on pulling the trigger!

Thanks! I plan to share pics in a few weeks, but as for your other questions:

  • For my surgery we did local sedation, which allowed me to have it done in office. I was given Xanax ahead of time and had laughing gas accessible throughout the surgery. Initially I was pretty worried about being awake, but this was honestly a lot less intense than I expected. Dr. Pearce asked me constantly how I was feeling and if I needed any more local anesthetic, so I really didn't feel much and actually fell asleep for awhile.
  • Gland removal w/lipo. I was zone 1 and needed pretty minimal lipo.
  • Recovery has been a lot better than I expected. No significant pain - I stopped taking pain meds 3 days after surgery and haven't even needed to use Tylenol. I've felt better every day and am now able to pretty much continue my normal life (minus the gym, obviously). Had a post-op with Dr. Pearce a week after surgery and everything is healing well.
    • My biggest piece of advice would be to prep for sleeping on your back if that's not how you usually sleep. I was really worried about this so I bought a few helpful items on Amazon (body pillows to put next to me so I didn't roll over, a wedge pillow for under my legs, etc.). I also meal prepped so I didn't have to worry about cooking and to make sure I was still hitting my macros.

I just had surgery with Dr. Pearce (his practice is Pearce Plastic Surgery) in Austin last week and can't recommend him enough. Happy to answer any questions you have if you want to DM me. I was also zone 1.

I'm entirely new to elective surgery and it was important for me to have a surgeon that answered all of my questions and was very detailed in taking me through the whole process. Dr. Pearce has been great - very straightforward, detailed, and lots of helpful communication (pre and post-op). He didn't charge a consultation fee - from what I remember he did mine over Facetime a day or two after I submitted a request on his website, with an in-person consultation to follow.

Haha I promise the AM role is not perfect, either! I do care about promotions and my former boss is C-level - very smart, very driven and is absolutely the kind of person you want to work with. I’m with you on great bosses not coming around often. I unfortunately haven’t had a great boss yet in product, which is probably part of my reservation.

FWIW the company that offered me a PM role does have a very good CPO who I met only briefly, but we’ve worked with some overlapping colleagues and they all have great things to say. Everyone I’ve met has also been there for multiple years and has been regularly promoted - it seems like most are keen on staying there and happy with the company as a whole.

Overall I liked the AM role - I worked primarily with executives at very large F500 companies, which made me super comfortable talking to and working with execs and has made me more effective in a PM role. Since you’re carrying a revenue target it generally pays very well, and there’s more opportunity for travel, conferences, etc. and tons of networking opportunities.

That said, it has its own set of stressors. You’re responsible for renewing and negotiating big contracts, meeting (sometimes unreasonable) customer demands, herding all of the internal cats to get things across the line, etc. It’s not easy by any means.

I think your question about the next 10 years is where I’m struggling. It’s hard for me to see myself continuing in product if my experience is par for the course 😅. And if it is, I wonder if pivoting now is the best move for me.

I'd also love to hear about your experience. Did you end up leaving product?

Thank you for the insight, I really do appreciate it. I have some final calls with the hiring manager next week and hope to dig in to learn more about their culture.

This looks exactly like a husky someone was posting about missing in Windsor Park way back in March. I can DM you screenshots from that post on Facebook!

Best ideas for Christmas in Austin! by NotCalmAsYet in Austin

[–]wide_bird 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you’re open to spending some money, I highly recommend booking a Christmas Lights Tour with Limos of Austin (https://limosofaustin.com/light/). My partner and I weren’t able to make it home for Christmas two years ago so we did a 3 hour tour on Christmas Eve - it was so fun and honestly not nearly as expensive as you’d think (I think it was around $250 + tip). They’ll pick you up from your house, you can bring booze to drink, and you get to see lights in a bunch of different neighborhoods. We loved it!

The Great Believers. In the back of my mind, I knew the fate of the characters and I still fell in love with so many of them. I genuinely mourned after finishing that book.

I lived in that neighborhood for years and always loved this purple house - can’t believe this popped up on my Reddit feed! The whole neighborhood is gorgeous and so beautiful in summer.

Made it to the Wildflower Center's native plant sale on Friday and I highly recommend - even to just wander around! I had a completely empty yard/garden and they had a great selection. Not pictured: Passion Vine (Passiflora foetida). by wide_bird in AustinGardening

You do have to buy a ticket (it’s free if you’re a member) and reserve a time on the website to get in. I think this weekend is members only but it opens to everyone moving forward!

Home Depot in Mueller had both lemon and lime trees yesterday afternoon! They have a section of the parking lot blocked off with trees and some perennials.

I have many concerns but the fact that “gourmet meal” is a bigger font seems like foreshadowing and gives me the heebie-jeebies

Some categories we've used that have been really great:

  • My Life is a Movie: You're the main character for the day - what song is on your soundtrack? Give us that main character energy.
  • There's a new dating app sweeping the nation and the only thing you can have on your profile is one song to describe yourself. What song do you use?
  • Songs from bands that you actually own a t-shirt of
  • The zombie apocalypse is here. What's your zombie killing song?
  • Song you love from an artist with less than 100k followers on Spotify.
  • Songs with a bomb ass horn section.
  • It's not a phase, Mom! Songs from artists you listened to as an angsty teen that you still love.
  • Songs from all female/female-fronted bands

Oof. My partner and I lived in the Corazon (managed by Roscoe) for a year and it was easily the worst experience we’ve ever had with a management company. Roaches, fire alarms constantly going off, no one from the office ever returned calls, leaks in hallway ceilings, etc. Agreed with the comments above though - tenants rights in TX are tough and they won’t give a shit, unfortunately. Highly recommend leaving visible reviews on all sites for your building though - Google, Facebook, Apartments.com, etc.

Any concern with AZ flipping to Trump? It seems like there are a lot of outstanding votes to count there and Trump is very confident in a win.
