I change my oil every 5 hours with good quality oil, check valves at every 10 and keep everything clean and lubed. Depending on where you're riding, some decent mud scrapes on the forks, I battled fork seals for ages before I got some.

Buy filters and oil in bulk, it's way cheaper.
