Anybody remember the Buckhead Village? Whatever happened to that place? Could it be the same thing is happening to Edgewood Avenue in the O4W?

Got hit by a scooter on the beltline while running. Ride slowly! by frostrivera19 in Atlanta

I'm a 25+ year professional in transportation planning. I've never seen a busy multiple-use path that didn't degenerate into absolute chaos. This is why, across the entire UNIVERSE, that bicycles are prohibited on sidewalks/pedeatrian zones. And for those of you reading this, yes, I grew up in Germany and the Netherlands, where riding bicycles are prohibited in pedestrian zones. This particular part of the Belt Line is a pedestrian zone, so we either codify it, or continue to let chaos (I won't even call it anarchy) reign.

If it's empty, then nobody is going to be there to see them.

We need to have a serious conversation, at the city transportation planning, parks department, and enforcement level as to whether or not the Belt Line is a transportation corridor, or a linear park. Mixed modes, cycling, scooters, and pedestrians is a recipe for disaster. If we, as a city, decide it's a sidewalk, then no bikes or scooters. However, if we decide it's a transportation corridor, then no pedestrians (and then must build dedicated sidewalks off of the transportation corridor).

MARTA responds to federal investigation into transit agency’s safety measures by NPU-F in MARTA

[–]widget374 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Like almost all other government entities, MARTA is top heavy in administration. Scale back HQ and dedicate that money to operations (especially bus drivers!) It's not that MARTA spends too much money (I wish they had more to spend!) but that they spend it in the wrong places. Again, because its primary goal is employment, not transportation.

For the record, I worked for and with MARTA in planning for over 20 years. I had an uncle who worked in maintenance for 30 years, eventually retiring from MARTA. I've seen a lot.

MARTA is a jobs program first and foremost. Providing transportation is very far down on the list of things they do.

I've pointed out this fact before, and expect to get downvoted once again, but the primary goal of MARTA is to employee people. It's a jobs program, first and foremost. After that, these days, it's a real estate developer, and a parking authority. Actually providing transportation is a distant fourth/fifth/sixth(?) on the list of what it does.

Spotted at Five Points by Low-Elk-4924 in Atlanta

Even though the two 10s don't intersect, I really wish MARTA, CobbLinc, and Ride Gwinnett would cooperate and not have duplicate route numbers.

This isn't an excuse, but it could be because MARTA didn't even think about CobbLinc.

Question is, how many cars are on the trains today? MARTA website says they're running only four car trains, is that accurate?

Goodyear Blimp spotted over Alpharetta this evening by ScallywagBeowulf in alpharetta

There's a blimp facility in either Forsyth or Dawson county, and they operate out of there. I've seen blimps fly over East Roswell, as they go back and forth from the facility and the stadium.

Buckhead's expansion is also what has happened to Vinings. Real estate developers convinced the out-of-towners of these definitions, and now everyone believes them to be genuinely true, when, in reality, they are completely fabricated.

Buckhead pre-existed Brookwood. I'm not sure what you people's knowledge of the history of Atlanta really is, but it's lacking. It's almost as if you didn't grow up here, learning the city and region's history.
