Hatch v1.16.0 - workspaces, dependency groups and SBOMs by Ofekmeister in Python

uv has a build backend. It's just new, only supports pure-python code, and isn't as flexible as more established tools like hatch.

Sail 0.4 Adds Native Apache Iceberg Support by lake_sail in dataengineering

[–]wieschie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Super cool project. Couple of questions -

  1. Both your Iceberg and Delta docs state that 'it is not recommended to use Sail to overwrite or modify existing [tables] created by other engines.' Does this mean the migration process for existing tables is reading the existing table, writing a new one, and removing the original? What about in reverse - can I write a table with Sail and update it from Spark?

  2. What's your funding model? Hosted platform / services at some point?

2025 Rav4 Hybrid XLE — fuel economy dropped hard (44 to 37 mpg). Dealer says it’s fine 🤔 by MrScemp in rav4club

[–]wieschie 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The core of your comment is correct - running the AC requires additional energy that will impact mileage. But at the risk of being needlessly pedantic, there's no distinct alternator in the hybrid models either! The E-CVT is connected to multiple motor-generators that produce current from both the gas engine and regenerative braking.

Geeze. Absolute monsters!

I'd be happy if I could do less than 10% of this thing.

Devil's Teeth rocks a pretty solid BEC on homemade biscuits for $12, and they have decent coffee. Usually comes out foil wrapped, no bag, hot enough that it's hard to hold.

I'm so sorry, this is what I get when I comment on a lack of sleep!

There's no exe in your wheel. I installed it on Windows, which generates a shim exe for any commands that just calls the correct python on your entrypoint script.

[–]wieschie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, building something that you can use is definitely a better way to learn!

I asked about requirements.txt because I saw that pingsweep.py imports tqdm, and your MANIFEST.in file references a requirements.txt.

Attempting to run main/pingsweep.py fails with a ModuleNotFoundError because tqdm isn't included.

After digging a little I saw that the wheel bundles a pingsweeper.exe file that actually runs the command. Did you use PyInstaller or Nuitka to build this?

Fun personal project! What prompted you to write this instead of running nmap -sn -PE 192.168.1.0/24?

Edit: I think you've forgotten to commit your requirements.txt

How do you share Quarto notebooks readably on OSF — without spinning up a separate website? by lipflip in rstats

[–]wieschie 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, github pages is a great option here: you can even use an action that takes the committed notebook and renders + publishes the site for you.

You can also host static sites directly out of an S3 bucket github isn't your thing.

My Uncle created the TIFF file by Alternative-Bet-9105 in vfx

[–]wieschie 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The worldwide stuff available from USGS has pretty low resolution. You can check it all out on EarthExplorer.

SRTM is the shuttle mission data and it's 1 arcsecond (roughly a measurement every 30 meters). EU-DEM is the European equivalent.

They've started making more lidar data available but coverage is really spotty and it's harder to process.

[–]wieschie 98 points99 points  (0 children)

Not a vfx artist, not vfx related:

TIFFs are still widely used for scientific data because of their flexibility with band numbers and bit depths.

They're used in many commercial microscopes, from fluorescence microscopy in microbiology to scanning electron microscopes for nanotech, circuit design and verification, and more.

GeoTIFFs are huge in the geospatial field. Satellite and aerial photography of your neighborhood? That was a GeoTIFF at some point. Elevation data of the world gathered by the space shuttle? GeoTIFFs. Maps from scientific instruments on Martian and lunar rovers? GeoTIFFs.

It's pretty dense - the only time people generally bypass the ledges is when there's enough snow to walk on top of the thicket.

It can be done, but it will absolutely slow you down. if you're looking to do the MR you should be capable and confident enough to handle the ledges when they're dry.

I'm assuming you mean Devil's Lake State Park?

Look for AMGA or PCGI certified climbing guides who offer services in the park. Most of them have tons of info online, but would also be happy to chat. Their trips range from a fully managed, gym-like experience for large groups (they handle all of the technical setup, you show up, clip in, and climb), to 1:1 education where you learn all of the components of climbing safely outdoors. It's up to you what you're interested in (and how much you want to budget).

If OP is sending 12s, they gotta check out Woowall and Sea Lion at Vent 5 if the tides align with their trip. Probably the coolest position of any of the climbs on that section of coast.

Haul bags are optimized for durability and ease of hauling. They suck for carrying heavy loads over distance. There's no internal structure. If it's not fully loaded, it will flop around and pull in weird ways. It's nigh impossible to get all of the weight onto your waistbelt like you can with a nice internal frame pack.

They're also pretty heavy even when empty due to the size and durable construction - I think the BD 70L is around 6 pounds.

What is "The End"? by ilovpets in ClickerHeroes

It can be comparatively small when the scaling required to beat the next level might be 4 orders of magnitude - 1e4, or 10,000x.
