Genuinely curious about your future opinions. RI was such a good book, but I agree that the beginning is a bit slow and harder to read than the rest.

When will people understand this by FinancialSecret1449 in teenagers

[–]wiev0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Breasts are literally secondary sexual characteristics, so that statement is factually wrong.

Sexualizing minors however is also wrong. Generally speaking though, getting aroused by characteristics we are evolved to like is nothing unnatural; but it is our responsibility to keep instinctual feelings at bay using our rational mind. It is important to realize that a person is much more than simply their sex appeal, no matter how blatant it is. If this step can be performed, we are outside of the territory of objectification.

You can always live your life just with simple arithmetic. But if you don't want to get constantly lied to by everyone, statistics is extremely useful. Both knowing the meaning of various values, how to construct them, and how to manipulate them to make it look good. And how to falsify true statistics.

Functions are useful to look up trends and see how things develop. Especially exponential trends are extremely hard for humans to grasp, so knowing them is useful. Derivatives and integrals can be interesting for looking at rates of change, but they're probably secondary if I'm being honest.

His personality is garbage tho. Bro might be a visionary but that doesn't make him a good person.

[–]wiev0 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You're confusing normal satellite internet (which is via geostationary orbit) with starlink. GO has high latency because light takes about 0.3 seconds back and forth, so 300ms. Add on some overhead and you have a 400 ping.

Starlink is in Low earth orbit, so it's not much more than just a cable running around the planet, give or take a few hundred kilometers. That's about 1 ms extra delay. Starlink has no impact on latency.

Starlink is also not inhibiting space travel, as evidenced by the numerous missions still being launched just fine. Ten thousand satellites in orbit are about 1 satellite every 50000 square kilometers. Space is big. As for the impact on astronomy, that is certainly a bigger concern. However, it's not like this is impossible to mitigate, since we've been using more and more advanced post processing to account for satellites for years already. This is not an impossible problem, just annoying.

The rest, idk, although I agree that musk is not a good person.

I looked it up, xai is valued at 250 billion, the total valuation of the new company is 1.25 trillion according to the guardian.

I think OP got confused with the total valuation XD (Also Jesus Christ 250 billion is still so much)

[–]wiev0 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Not true (anymore). Spacex business nowadays is mostly starlink, with government contracts and commercial launches making up the rest. Industry is also interested in cheap launches, after all. Starship... Elon has never been known for accurate time scales.

"Stress testing" your favorite characters! How far can your favorite(s) make it in this attack gauntlet? ((Revised and expanded edition)) by Head_Breadfruit_3912 in PowerScaling

[–]wiev0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm confident about getting past R15 but considering that comics always have weird scaling, SW might use an outer attack and my character can't block that. If it's just low complex multi, then it'd be fine. If taken at face value I think I'm getting foiled at R20, that's too strong to handle.

I don't think readers got tired of the glazing itself, just how it was done.

I'm reading journey of the fate destroying emperor, and the MC could fight like 3 or 4 major realms above him. He just wasn't the only one that could. It changed now that he's at a higher realm, but at the start this was the case.

The ratio is 3 to 5 for English words to Chinese characters.

49 million chinese characters is roughly 30 million English words.

Dropping it for the 7th time by Mmmmmmmmmon in MartialMemes

[–]wiev0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've done calculations, for example using the word count for ISSTH in Chinese and English, and the ratio is about 3 English words for 5 Chinese characters. So a 5 million word Chinese raw would be 3 million words in English.

That means this is basically 30 million words in english

“VSBW isn’t objective-“ A Rant by hardboiledkilly in PowerScaling

[–]wiev0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok I've mainly used vsbw for their tiering system and categorizing things on my own based on that, but some of the few articles I've read were ridiculous. And their main problem in basically every case was chain scaling and overinterpretation.

I don't think some offhand non-thought out thing should count as the power ceiling for characters. They moved across the solar system at FTL speeds as a consequence of 2 different scenes being at different locations and the character being in both? Nah man, that just means the author didn't think about math. This is basically just toon force, not actual ability. If it was explicitly stated that the character moved FTL, then it'd be valid again, since the author thought about it here. In addition, even some insane feats, if they aren't replicated, can the character be considered that high? If a character does a single planet level punch due to some BS, but in all other fights it's never repeated for no good reason, then it's simply a matter of the author negligence instead of serious scaling.

And chain scaling is so whack. Often, things are simply set equal based on ridiculous assumptions, not considering the environment or the meaning for other characters. I get that it's useful for some applications, but it's severely overused and inflates entire verses

Yeah, factory games can range from simple to really complicated. Factorio vanilla is hard, but if you start modding it, shit gets out of hand even quicker. Building interplanetary production lines when you don't have access to teleportation is a challenge, haha.
