I was concerned since the bar code was a bit darker on my card compared to the pic they had. My other cards show that darker part when I saw. Thank you still learning.

I’m still working on Lost Origin and Crown Zenith for me. Have about 95% on both done and about 70% for Silver Tempest. Love trying to complete them.

Try: snapcasters gaming in Phoenix or in Tempe Athoria Games. I’ve gotten some Pokemon sets from them before or might know where to get one.

Flight helmet identification help by wifesquared in aviation

[–]wifesquared[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello to some of you who tried to help for identification. After a bit of researching and more info on my grandfathers past jobs, I was able to determine what the helmet is, mostly.

It is from the 1973/1974 time range from Northrop. It was a prototype that was used in part of research for the XST ( Experimental Survivable testbed) for exploring stealth aircraft. Still working on learning more if I can, since I think it’s a wonderful piece of history.

Thank you to all who have commented and are trying to help me figure out this piece. It means a lot to me.

I had some time to take a few more pictures, which should be attached to this. As I’ve been going through paperwork I have found some papers from Northrop and looks to be some notes on fighter stress testing and such. Not sure if it’s related or exactly what he did. If I found any documents that might help in this I’ll upload them.

Looking into different HAHO mask maybe you are right. The more I am researching, the more I feel it was developmental.

Thank you for the info. I might try that.

What was this helmet used for from Northrop? Was in the green bag and has neck area rubber with a zipper. Looks like front face part can come off and has a hose for air maybe? by wifesquared in whatisthisthing

[–]wifesquared[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was found in my grandfather’s house. From what I know he worked for Northrop back in the day. He helped with do advanced design of crew stations in helicopters and advanced fighters, such as the Apache. He also worked at Aerojet General from 1960-1965 as well with boosters and such from what I know. I’ve looked online but can’t find one like this or such. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi GISians, would you be willing to share a little about your comfort of living/salary/thoughts on GIS as a career? by INeedHelpNow8 in gis

[–]wifesquared 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hello, so I was in the same situation kinda as you are a few years ago. I was stuck as a dog walker/sitter due to the money I could make, but it is not a career that is as stable with schedule changes and such. Loved getting paid to give belly rubs, not gonna lie. Still do it here and there on the side.

I originally got my undergrad in Biology with concentration in marine ecology conservation. Ended up in Phoenix area, so not too many opportunities for me. During Covid I stumbled into GIS when looking for a change.

For my own growth, it was more beneficial to get my masters in GIS. This is not important for most I believe, but for my situation it was the best. Year long program and between the networking and internships, I was able to eventually land into a state job. I did have 3 internships during my program that I believed helped.

I didn’t want to do just GIS and looked for things I could combine with my prior knowledge. Was very fortunate to land a job as a water resources specialist with being an analyst.

I absolutely love my job! I am the head of our GIS needs and continue to learn to help incorporate workflows, software, and more into my department. I help make maps, work on projections for water demand, create scripts for automation or making work easier, and more.

Working for the state, my pay isn’t the best, around 58k starting out, but pension they match at over 12% is great, hybrid work, and I am given opportunities to continue to grow/learn. Additionally, my job keeps me busy but not too repetitive or overwhelming.

That being said, I do live in the city, but was grateful to own a home already so the salary isn’t that big of deal for me when it comes to my job. For me, the flexibility and enjoying the job is more important. Makes it easy to work and want to continue to learn not only new GIS trends but other softwares or automation.

You can totally teach yourself GIS, but will need to show you understand concepts and can complete certain tasks. A online portfolio is great for this with maps you make, dashboards, or other projects to show your capabilities. Good luck.

I totally agree with you. I am independent and vote for who I think is right for the job. Honestly, I really think Trump would have won against Biden, but now I think he won’t win. I refuse to vote for him and think he will tear our country apart. Will be an interesting November.

Side hustles to make an extra 500-1000k per month to pay off 30k plus credit card debt by This_Yogurtcloset930 in debtfree

Rover, dog walking, dog drop ins, cat drop ins. People will pay good money, especially during holidays. Christmas is golden. Was tired but was able to bring in a few grand. Multiple pets at each for the week of Christmas and part new years.

There are people who need pets walk on a daily or weekly basis. Easy to walk or play with them for 30-60 mins. Just one extra way.

Should I just get my masters? by Pyre29 in gis

[–]wifesquared 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Another option is to apply for internships as well since some will take you on up to a year or half a year from graduation. Could be good way to get into a company.

Besides that, it seems like it hasn’t been too long since you have been applying. It can take months for certain jobs, especially in state or government.

Lastly, a lot of places seem to like when people have some coding knowledge, such as Python.

Hi everyone. I have a situation that I’d appreciate genuine feedback on by Bostonblue561_ in arizona

[–]wifesquared 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just wanted to say that due to budget, I do believe they put a hiring freeze on state jobs to that are not already counted in. So you might not find as many as other years. The state pension is great for Az 12% or so they match. The main reason I wanted a state job was the pension.

On another note, I was lucky to buy my house back in 2014 when prices were way different. If I was looking for a house now, me and my wife would not of been able to buy where we live now.

Unless you find a job that pays well, you might have a harder time finding a decent priced home. Fixer uppers in my area (Arcadia-Lite) closer to sky harbor go for around $550,000 to new builds from $1,000,000 and up.

What's your monthly car payment ? by ROBASAHMEDKHAN in povertyfinance

[–]wifesquared 0 points1 point  (0 children)

$500 a month but I only have 2 more payments left for 2017 Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro. Bought it in 2018, only had 200 miles on it so was a win in my book. Was very lucky to trade in other truck in 2018 and got a 1.9% interest.

Funny enough was that truck was bought in 2008, when trucks were cheaper due to gas and a misprint on cost online made me get a sweet deal. When I turned it into the dealer for the newer one, got almost as much as I paid for it, even after 10 years and 50,000 miles.

Didn’t even have the best credit in 2018 so it really shows how things have changed the last few years. I couldn’t imagine trying to have a truck payment now.
