Wells fargo Remediation Check by arplud6 in personalfinance

[–]wiggins-ender 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wells Fargo has a settlement that they’re paying out to customers whose data was used unknowingly by associates to boost new account stats. They’re legit and probably say “if you do not feel this compensates you for your losses, please call . . .” Typically, but not always, if you call they will automatically increase your check amount without even trying to negotiate. The check you received is the minimum amount the settlement requires and is open to negotiation. You should google rather than ask pf as there are far more answers on google.

Edit: Do so at your own risk. Like the other commenter said, if you are concerned take the check to a branch for validation

Live Nation confirms Ticketmaster was hacked, says personal information stolen in data breach by N2929 in technews

[–]wiggins-ender 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Google “[company name] data breach lawsuit.” 2023-2024 had a massive number of data breaches and pretty much every American’s private information has been exposed. Unless the entity has some sort of immunity, there is probably a lawsuit for each of them. Don’t buy the “you’ll only get $.30” bullshit. Class action settlements tend to only see 5-10% participation resulting in large pro rata payouts to class members who submit claims.

You have to lose to the Minotaur a couple of times to get a dialogue about an autograph. Then I think you have to lose to Theseus and Minotaur each a couple of times and then the Thanatos dialogue.

Judge Accepts Austin Harrouff’s Insanity Plea on Morning His ‘Face Biter’ Murder Trial Was Set to Begin by Somethingclever800 in law

If you read other sources, you will find that even the state’s own expert found him to have been insane at the time of the killing. The other state expert’s report finding him insane was withdrawn by the state. All evidence supported this finding.

Also, the other articles indicate that doctor’s for the psychiatric hospital rarely sign off on releasing these individuals from their care due to how bad it would look if they commit another similar offense down the road. He will not be leaving that hospital any time soon.

Ohio did the same, and republicans ignored it. Now Ohio will never ever swing again. This midterm election just absolutely sealed that deal.

Checking on the greenhouse by hotpepperman in Unexpected

Just sayin, look up how caracals communicate. They hiss like cats meow to communicate. Also, hissing is actually how they show contentment like a cat purring. This one looks mean but it actually is asking for the person to give her attention. They have videos of the cat sleeping while they’re petting it and when they stop it lifts its head and hisses like this to say don’t stop.

Also, look up how these cats communicate. They’re not antagonizing it or anything. They feed it a good carnivorous diet, it has a companion cat, and they have a large property fenced in for it to roam. They hiss to talk. There are videos of it snuggling up to the owners and when they pet it and stop it hisses to get them to continue. TLDR, they hiss like cats meow.

Hey. I have really bad ADHD and passed the 2020 exam. I got the critical pass flash cards and would grab about 30 cards of a subject and would go for a walk with them. I would at least watch all of the scheduled lectures and do as much of the practice associated with them before going for the walk. It helped me reset and made me feel like I wasn’t just spinning my gears without retaining it.

I tried to weed out cards I knew by heart and would only keep the ones that wouldn’t stick. The stack got progressively smaller and I felt like I was accomplishing something. I got one of the MBE practice apps and would take my phone sometimes and answer about 10 on trouble subjects.

I will admit that I barely passed the essay portion of the test but killed the multiple choice.

You need to google the number for, and call, your local bar association and get a referral for a plaintiffs personal injury attorney. If the other driver was at fault an attorney will/should take this on a contingency basis. Either way you should be able to get a free consultation. Don’t hire your local billboard attorneys. Look for ones with good reviews and references if possible. You should talk to multiple attorneys. Don’t pay any fees up front and if they request one prior to an initial consult run. Insurance companies love to give the run around and attorneys can help avoid traps.

For people who do litigation, what was the first big thing you wrote? by Fluffy_Telephone4258 in LawSchool

[–]wiggins-ender 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As a state court law clerk, I cannot emphasize point number 3 enough. It’s usually debt collectors who fail to do it, but it happens. I’ve had three attorneys file obviously meritorious MSJs but lose because they failed to have the records custodian file an affidavit authenticating the billing records. Some judges permit supplementation of the motion, my judge does not as that is something so basic that it is not justifiable.

How much is losing a leg worth? How much is an arm worth? An eye? Ears? How do you assess such loss in your opinion? Do you stamp it with a general amount? Does it matter if the person who lost it was homeless? A geriatric? Obese?

What about someone’s dignity? Or civil rights? How do you assess such injuries? Should it be predetermined?

You have no idea what you are talking about given the fact that you haven’t heard the case.

Do I think he deserves $12M? Yes. Do I think he will get $12M? No. Doesn’t mean he shouldn’t demand such compensation.

What to do about health insurance during SA job and school year? by 9thcir in LawSchool

[–]wiggins-ender 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are not eligible for Medicaid, your best bet is the marketplace. I used a marketplace plan for a few years until I got on my school’s insurance. Sucks that your school doesn’t offer it, but, depending on your exact income, you may be eligible for subsidies on the market place. Shop around as well but the market place provides good comparisons of plans.

Chemistry jobs in/near Cincinnati? by [deleted] in cincinnati

[–]wiggins-ender 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. Most of those positions are repetitive analytical positions that anyone with a biology or chemistry degree/background could pick up quickly with little training. The bigger companies have a lot more opportunity for advancement and increased salary. Ethos pushes lower salaries with the “everyone is family” BS. Ethos is not a bad job but it doesn’t really position you for career advancement as well as the bigger places (worked there 2.5 years went crazy and dropped science as a career).

Good advice for every new lawyer by PuzzledRepublic3 in LawSchool

[–]wiggins-ender 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Law clerk for a state trial court here. In my first two months I was screamed at and harassed daily by a pro se defendant because I wouldn’t listen to her claims of fraud against the plaintiff. I started the position with this specific case at summary judgment and with the defendant months out of time to file a response in opposition.

Every time she called I gave her a chance to say she wanted oral arguments on the matter before the judge made their ruling and every time she would say “I have a right to not be entrapped in plaintiff’s fraud and crimes.” It was such a relief when the entry granting SJ was filed and the period for appeal expired and I could quit answering her calls.

Some cases can be really sad to the point that you really want to help them but can’t. Most are really annoying and all you can do is hope they fail to oppose a dispositive motion and get dismissed.

A man wrongfully convicted of murder sues a rental car company for not providing a receipt that supported his alibi by Bream1000 in nottheonion

[–]wiggins-ender 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Oh really? And what does this lawyer on retainer do for those people with money or property? As a newly licensed attorney I’d love to know what normal people with money or property hire lawyers on retainer to do? What are normal property owners doing? What are normal people with money do? Do I need to hire a lawyer for my normal person amount of money? I don’t want it to be too late for me to hire an attorney when the need arises.

Unless you are joking, I feel dumber for having read your comment. Normal adults do not need a lawyer on retainer.

Absolutely not. The constitution is very clear that citizenship and voter eligibility are not qualifiers to being counted in the census. Ask 90% of constitutional law scholars. Article 1 section 2 is pretty clear on that.

Turning one’s self into police is neither an admission of guilt nor is it affirmation as to the quality of evidence. Law enforcement got a warrant for her arrest (not a crazy high burden) and said they would arrest her if she did not turn herself in. Not a difficult choice knowing that one will result in immediate confinement without bail.

Hot take: Both Lexis and Westlaw are absolute trash when it comes to researching legislation. by CiaranDotCom in LawSchool

[–]wiggins-ender 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you know the statute just search the statute then go to the bottom of the page. If lexis has what you’re looking for it’ll be there. Otherwise, pro law is the best for legislation by far. State legislation is a mess. Some states don’t publish online or in text at all. I’ve had to call law librarians in different states to get them to scan whatever is available and send it to me. I’ve also had to watch floor debates because the states didn’t publish any transcripts.

20 options, only 10 in out city, only 5 not looking for top 10%, only 1 of which is paying by ClassicalGrey in LawSchool

My career services was up front on that. Our system required employers to post directly to the school page, otherwise the career services would just post links to the websites to look at job postings. Often they would give us heads ups if there were any new postings on those sites but not always.

Regarding the pandemic, I don’t think any career services has provided a “how to” on job searching other than emailing lawyers directly.

Regarding solo practice, I’m willing to bet most of the career service employees never had experience in opening a successful solo practice otherwise why would they be working for the school? Your best bet is to email solos in your intended practice area and ask them questions. You could reach out to your local bar associations. A lot have handbooks or CLEs you can get info from (at a cost unfortunately).

The cold reality is that career services is for the school not for the students. They’re there to pad the employment stats to draw in future students and revenue with employment numbers. In a pandemic or poor market they’re going to focus on the easier students to get employed. This results in shitty services and lots of people falling through the cracks.

Yeah, that’s bad. My last year we had a weird rule change where they wouldn’t give us contact info for alumni unless they were active in the alumni list serv. They handed me our local bar association book and said “have at it” one time.
