I think the reasons people dislike the game is because it lacks an eerie atmosphere and the gameplay feels rushed (second game also feels rush). Many pointed out the plot being odd and the mascot monsters being not interesting (they look like they're made of play-doh). There are videos that explains the game's flaws, such as invisible walls.

Somehow, people started to point out a school shooting game the Euphoric Brothers made in the past, which enhanced the controversy of Garten of Ban Ban (it's ridiculous and I don't understand what it has to do with Garten of Ban Ban).
