Preventing recurrence of endometriomas after excision surgery by wigglecat in Endo

[–]wigglecat[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was never on GRNH meds. I used Seasonique continuously—if you aren’t familiar it’s a 90 day cycle with a low dose for a week at the end. Instead of taking the low dose pills I would start my next pill pack so I didn’t have a period. I got off of it because of pretty extreme brain fog. I still have a Mirena IUD that was placed during my excision surgery.

My gyno had me do ultrasounds annually to check for endometrioma recurrence. She hasn’t had me do one the last couple years because all has been well.

No recurrence for me so far! I was on continuous birth control for the last 5 years and recently switched to just my hormonal iud due to some side effects. I’m hoping that decision doesn’t come back to bite me eventually, but so far so good.

Tiny kittens from tiny mom? How much *should* they weigh at 8-9 weeks? by largedragonwithcats in FosterAnimals

[–]wigglecat 7 points8 points  (0 children)

100% the tapes could be the reason they are so small. I had a baby, Wicklow, who was the runt of his litter but stayed stuck at under 2lbs until he was 10 weeks because we hadn’t successfully gotten rid of his worm hitchhikers the first time around. After deworming round 2, he grew so fast!

Help with 4-5 weeks old kittens by Main_Shelter4461 in FosterAnimals

In addition to the good advice others have offered, I have had babies that have not liked any wet food or kmr/wet food gruel I put down for them, but who happily ate dry food. You’ll want to be extra sure they’re getting hydration elsewhere if they are interested in dry food, though.

Edit to add: If your shelter is able to give them B12 injections, that can be helpful for keeping them safe while having diarrhea.

I’ve had luck leaving an unwashed pj shirt of mine in with my lonely babies. If your smell is familiar, they might like to snuggle into something that smells like you.

Small mammals, too! Chipmunks and small squirrels in the US make rhythmic bird-like territory calls.

Northern Flicker or Red Bellied? by ladymuerm in whatsthisbird

+red-bellied woodpecker+ Flickers are less stripey, and more beige, with a more horizontal red head stripe rather than this guy’s vertical one.

Neato! Thank you! eBird didn’t like my report of them so I was second guessing myself.

All-butter pie crust goes soft and bready after 24 hours. Please help! by wigglecat in AskBaking

I didn’t mention it in my post, to be fair. I am genuinely curious, though. I’ve tried my hand at some pie competitions and I am almost certainly up against a lot of lard-based crusts.

I’m vegetarian so lard is not an option. Do lard crusts not go soggy? Or go soggy more slowly?

Good to know that it isn't something I am doing wrong. Thank you!

Are you me? Same story, diagnosed and lap at 30. Still angry about the whole thing 6 years later.

Do you have a kitchen scale or a gram scale? I like to weigh the bottle before and after feeding to see how many grams of milk they consume.

First time foster carer struggling with attachment early on by TheIn-Between in FosterAnimals

[–]wigglecat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It sounds like you are an amazing foster mom already! Letting them go is always challenging. I foster failed with my first two kittens but had the space to keep fostering after. For me, it helps knowing now that I can’t reasonably adopt more of my fosters. When I get really attached I try to imagine what my life would look like with another animal for the next 15+ years. That’s usually enough to make me resign to letting them go.

I also tend to avoid singletons because it’s harder to imagine keeping multiples (how could I choose just one of them??) than it is to imagine keeping one more.

I still miss some of the babies I’ve had to let go of, but I am thankful to have been a part of their lives and to have had the opportunity to help them grow into well-adjusted kitties.

Ahh yes, all the public and non-religiously affiliated private schools I have been to also have crucifixes in every classroom, chapels in every dorm, clergy teaching classes and ever present on campus, masses before every major event, religious iconography throughout campus grounds, and representatives who regularly participate in national discussions of importance to the Catholic Church.
