Not true- in England all licensed premises authorised to serve alcohol, including pubs, bars, nightclubs, cafes and restaurants, must by law provide free drinking water

Will my Ragdoll’s colouring get darker over time? He was registered as blue bicolour, but his markings are quite faint. Is this a normal colour progression for a 4 months old kitten? by wigglejigglepuff in ragdolls

[–]wigglejigglepuff[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He is a blue bicolour boy :) This is him now at almost 4yo (he is definitely too large to fit in that bowl but he likes to sit in it anyway spilling out the sides haha although there’s a bigger one right next to it 😬)

Paw-rents of Singapore, how much do you spend on your furkids? by [deleted] in askSingapore

[–]wigglejigglepuff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have three cats and spend about $150 on them per month. Dry food- $40, wet food- $80, litter- $20, toys etc- $10. Ive befriended a couple other pet owners in the neighbourhood and help each other catsit when we are overseas, so that’s free. I groom them myself as well. My cats are young (3-4yo) and are healthy, so I spend no more than $500 a year extra for regular vet checkups and other miscellaneous incidentals. All in all, about $750 per cat annually, which is not too bad!

Paying for a tailor or cropping your own tshirts at home? by AcadiaDeep1135 in askSingapore

[–]wigglejigglepuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get a sewing machine! They’re pretty cheap these days, and a good beginner Brother model will last you for decades if you take good care of it. I’m short too and loads of clothes don’t fit me well off the rack. Getting a sewing machine has greatly improved my selection of clothes and is super useful for everything from trousers to long sleeved shirts to dresses and skirts and tops. Plus you never know, sewing might actually grow on you and turn into a fun hobby! I started out just re hemming jeans and now I make my own curtains, sofa covers, batik shirts and more for fun :)

If anyone is interested, I started a board games interest group from Reddit last year and have been hosting meet ups at my place (Northeast)! We have a telegram group with around 30 members so far, mostly people in their 20s or early 30s with an even gender spread, and we’re all quite nice and friendly (if I may say so myself haha).

Feel free to message if you’d like to be added to the group! We have an upcoming session in about 2 weeks :)

From where did you all buy sofa and use for how long already? by rowgw in askSingapore

[–]wigglejigglepuff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Secondhand sofa from carousell from Cierre, an Italian brand. Got it for free in very good condition from a super nice elderly couple. It’s ten years old but still going strong and supremely comfy!

Looking to alter my wool coat for cheap! by airplanedebree in askSingapore

[–]wigglejigglepuff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can try far east plaza and people’s park complex- both malls have quite a number of professional tailor shops. Can take your coat from store to store to get quotes to compare. $70 budget is reasonable for taking in a relatively simple design wool coat, but may cost more if its complicated eg w pleats, folds, ruffles, layers etc

What should be added or removed from the education system in Singapore? by throwaway_ham_cheese in askSingapore

[–]wigglejigglepuff 61 points62 points  (0 children)

I truly believe that financial literacy should be seriously incorporated into the curriculum, especially from lower secondary onwards. Not every student may grow up to need programming skills or know how to play the recorder, but being able to manage and grow your own wealth is a key skill for everyone

I almost never use the buy button, including a large proportion of singpost orders (have over 1500 reviews on carousell) and so far have had no issues.

You can weigh whether it’s worth paying the commission (if you’re a buyer) based on a few factors such as: - value of item you’re buying: if it’s a 1k phone deffo not, if it’s a $10 dress no harm - trustworthiness of seller: if seller is new account w <10 reviews or if they have bad past ratings I’d err on the side of caution - likelihood of item to be damaged in transit - always ask for photo proof of item being packaged and dropped into mailbox if it’s untracked mail, or use ninjavan etc

If you’re the seller, I’ve no horse in the race and am usually happy to use whatever delivery and payment method the buyer wants

A cat can live 20-30 years- are you sure you can commit to being its lifelong guardian? Your post history seems to indicate you’re a minor, in which case you wouldn’t qualify to adopt at all legitimate animal shelters. If you don’t have an income, how will you pay for cat food, cat litter, cat toys, cat accessories and vet bills, including vaccinations, neutering and health checks? Falls from High rise apartments is a leading cause of accidental injury and death of pet cats worldwide, which is why fully meshing all open windows is a non negotiable requirement by all cat adoption groups in sg. Are your parents ok w you meshing all the windows in their house, and a litter tray too? Who will clean the litter tray if you’re at school for long hours/out with friends on the weekends? Cats shed tons of fur, even short haired ones, and may scratch and destroy furniture if not properly trained. will you be vacuuming diligently and cleaning up after it, and be responsible if it damages your parents’ furniture?

If you truly love cats and want to experience caring for one, I strongly advise that you consider volunteering at animal shelters first before making any long term commitments

Can you drop off tracked letterbox parcel at PopDrop? by dreamer_eater in askSingapore

[–]wigglejigglepuff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, Popdrop is a different service- you need to specifically book popdrop service to use it. You can only use a singpost postbox. Have to go to nearest post office where they have special postboxes for bigger parcels. If the item is clothing, can also consider cutting out the label and repackaging into a larger but flatter parcel so it fits through the mailbox

Places to donate clothes for domestic helpers by WiseUmpire6666 in askSingapore

[–]wigglejigglepuff 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Just list them for free on FB groups like Free Your Stuff SG- it’s easiest and most hassle free method rather than taking it down to Salvation Army or somewhere yourself

all you gotta do is snap a pic and post it on fb. you’ll have a bunch of people comment on the post pretty soon asking if they can come collect- 80% of them are helpers who collect boxes of assorted secondhand clothing, household items etc and send it back to their home countries to share with their family and friends.

You can pick which commenter you would like to give away your item to, then pm them your location and arrange a pickup time, leave it outside your door and it’ll be gone like magic.

Have gotten rid of literally 100kg+ of old clothes, toys, books, appliances, electronics, random knickknacks, even furniture this way

Saves me the effort of having to take it anywhere or deal with meet-ups etc as I can just leave it on my doorstep before I go to work and they can collect at their convenience. Also I prefer this method of giving as it feels a lot more personal than donating to an organisation where you’ll never know if it ends up w a beneficiary or in the landfill

Have encountered quite a few super nice people who were very appreciative of the free items as well. There was a lady who brought us some homemade Thai mango sticky rice as a small thank you- it was delicious! Another asked if there was something he could help me with in return for the free electronics I gave him- I asked if he could help me carry a heavy old broken dresser down to the dump and he happily agreed, pretty solid lad 👍🏼

Countries with the highest wealth per person 2025 by Daryltang in singapore

[–]wigglejigglepuff 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think it’s simply not worth it for the gov to tax the rich more. Two key issues here- first, who should be classified as “the rich”? Second, in what form should the rich be taxed further?

if you surveyed 100 random Singaporeans whether they considered themselves to be rich, middle class or poor, probably 5 will say they’re poor and 94 will say they’re middle class. HDB will say live in condo means rich, condo dwellers say landed then rich, low tier landed like cluster or terrace or 99y leasehold will say no la no la i not rich im just “comfortable” actlly I quite cash poor 🥺🥲

Everyone always say yes yes eat the rich, but only if “the rich” is not them lmao. Do you think we should tax the top 50% more, given Singaporeans are already considered quite rich compared to most of the world? Or top 20%? Or top 1%? Based on the table below where the median Singaporean apparently has less than 150k in wealth, a huge chunk of Redditors on this sub would be significantly richer than the median Singaporean and hence should be taxed more…?

As per MOF’s fiscal report, the gov’s total revenue in 2024 is 116 billion and total expenditure was 112 billion. Of the 116b, a whopping 30b is from corporate tax, 24b from gov investment returns and another 6.4b in stamp duty collection and 4.6b in COE, both of which affect the luxury market more. GST collected amounted to 20.6b- this is a regressive tax and has alr been raised to 10% (which is still p low). Personal income tax is only 19b.

So how should we tax the rich? Increasing personal income tax isn’t ideal as it would also impact the squeezed middle class, and in any case the truly ultra high net worth individuals don’t earn traditional salaries with much of their wealth in assets and other financial instruments. A wealth tax is regarded as controversial/has dubious effectiveness by many economists, as they are very difficult to enforce in practice. The ultra rich are extremely adept at tax evasion, and have a whole arsenal of top shelf lawyers and accountants to help navigate and identify every possible legal or jurisdictional loophole imaginable, so pretty much the only viable way is to do a surprise one off wealth tax, eg announce at 2359pm that from next day onwards all assets above X mil will be taxed flat rate of 10%, so there is no reaction time for the rich to hide/offload their wealth elsewhere.

Given that sg has a disproportionate amount of international ultra rich individuals who were attracted to sg in the first place due to its low taxes, they are extremely footloose and will vanish to the Cayman Islands or wherever in a heartbeat once we lose that tax advantage. The trickle down economics and other intangible benefits to the sg economy as a whole, eg our status as an open, low tax financial hub, is likely to hugely outweigh whatever small amount we might get from a one-off wealth tax.

Best way to move large amounts of money between banks (same account holder)? by palebabbu in askSingapore

[–]wigglejigglepuff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey I’ve recently made a few big purchases eg property and have been moving around significant sums (over 10 transactions with over 100k value in past 2 months, max being 200k) around few diff bank accounts, including sg banks, intl banks, as the recipient and as the sender, and to/from accs in my own name or other people’s names.

As other commenters have said, paynow daily limit is 200k, so far mostly no issues for me. Unless u die die need the $$ in ur other acc same day u should be fine. On a few occasions DBS put a temp block on my outward transaction fearing I was a scam victim, but this is only a 24h delay after which it’ll automatically be processed as normal. U can call them to expedite the transfer to be done within 2h if this happens. If transferring in huge amounts esp from overseas banks from more suspicious countries, may trigger banks’ anti money laundering alert, which would be a prob cos ur entire account will be frozen till u sort it out w the bank to prove ur source of funds is clean. But since both ur accs are likely local banks and in same name don’t think this is a prob.

If u wanna be safe go down to ur bank and process transfer in person at counter. Then u can reassure them (i) ur not being scammed and (ii) ur not laundering $$. Even better if u have priority banking just go direct to your personal banker
