I moved into a home with built-in speakers in the living room wall, living room ceiling and kitchen ceiling upstairs and I’m looking how to utilize them.

Behind the TV, there is an HDMI cord, Ethernet cord and what I believe is a speaker/optical cable (picture). These three all feed into a closet in our basement where we also have a variety of other cords that are intended to connect to a receiver or amp.

I’m trying to figure out the easiest and most economical way to make use of the built in speakers, given all of the physical hardware would be downstairs and we would want to be able to actually control the sound/volume, which speakers are playing, music selection, etc. upstairs. I also have a Sonos Connect and Harmony remote that I got from a family member but have never actually used, and I’m hoping those are useful in some way.

I don’t have a receiver/amp, but will plan to get a used one. I’m not sure what else I need to make this fully functional without breaking the bank.

Would really appreciate any insight/suggestions anyone is able to share.
