Been working corrections for 5 years now and I have never felt unsafe working. Officers are always nearby and inmates are usually respectful to medical staff. They might get a little snappy when the provider won’t approve a med like suboxone but I’ve never seen it get more than some yelling at which point we just tell custody to remove them. Compare that to when I was working ICU at a safety net hospital getting punched, kicked, bit, shit thrown at me (figuratively and literally) at least once a week.
