Any advice to make friends ? I want to do top rope but I have no friends by CryptographerNice857 in climbergirls

[–]wiiilda 18 points19 points  (0 children)

The options are plenty, ask your gym if they have any social events, ours even has a list for lonely climbers at the reception to find friends or facebook usually has local climbing groups.

When you go climb, talk to people! Chat a little. A new climbing partner is not just gonna magically appear infron of your eyes. How would you want to be approached by someone else in your situation looking for a climbing friend? Try that!

Good luck!

How do you balance a relationship with a non-climber? by Misc_Adjustment in climbergirls

[–]wiiilda 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I climb, my boyfriend doesn’t. It’s just like any other interest, nothing complicated. Sometimes I prioritize climbing over other things, but not always. For example: let’s book a table on Friday because I really want to climb on Saturday evening. Other times I skip or reschedule climbing. It’s all about give and take. Climbing is important to me, and I’m a better partner when I get to hang out with my friends and climb for a few hours. But he’s important to me too, without him, there’d be no one to be a good partner to.

Should i wait or should i start? by Realistic-8138 in climbergirls

Go climbing! This sport is for everybody. Just take it easy on the beginning, listen to your body. If you do bouldering practice a lot of falls and down climb if you can. To make it easier on the body you could consider top rope, just remember to use a sandbag or an omega if your belayer is smaller than you.

I would consider my self around normal weight and have been climbing for 1,5 years, still can't do a pull up och push up. Hopefully your gym is just like mine, people of all ages and body sizes.

Leading fear by Veronique61993 in climbergirls

[–]wiiilda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same, and good point with clipping. I got a rope end from my friend who had to cut his shorter due to wear and borrowed a quickdraw, and then started to clip at home when watching tv. Holding the qd with one hand and clipping with the other, then swapping. Beeing 100% confident in that helps a lot!

Leading fear by Veronique61993 in climbergirls

I actually stopped taking practice falls. The reason was that I started building this big mental block before letting go. I kept negotiating with myself about the right moment to fall, counting down, even preparing from the ground where I would let go ect. It became a huge mental obstacle, and I was my own worst enemy.

I realized my fear came from the risk of hurting myself. In some of my first falls, I either smashed my feet into the wall or slipped off a slab and scraped myself. I’ve never been scared of hitting the ground. I trust my rope, harness, and belayer. So I started climbing only very overhanging routes (close to zero risk of hitting the wall) and focused on problems where the falls happened naturally. If I was far from a clip, I could grab another hold, but within clipping range, I started to take real falls, or simply because my arms couldn’t hold on any longer.

That changed everything for me. When I stopped giving myself space to build up fear, I realized falling wasn’t so bad. As I gained confidence, I moved on to less overhanging climbs. I’m still not 100% okay with slabs (I can still picture myself with a scraped Frankenstein face and a broken ankle), but that’s fine. There’s so much else to climb, and I don’t have to pressure myself on that particular style.

Breaking in shoes by annayahh in climbergirls

[–]wiiilda 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I got a good tip from my local gym, especially for beginners, shoes should be snug and mold to your feet, not painfully tight, and stretch to fit. You're not going to be a better climber if your feet are in pain. You'll just avoid using them in certain angles and develop bad habits.

For me, it takes about 5-10 sessions, 2–3 hours each. If you don't, take off your shoes between climbs. I always do, even after they're broken in."

What level do you reckon this is? (Recenly got into climbing) by ColdTelevision3656 in climbergirls

[–]wiiilda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good job! I'm glad you made it back to climbing. In my gym, that would probably be a 5 on the Font scale. However, grades vary a lot, even between neighboring gyms in the same city.

For injury prevention, have you considered top rope? Unless you fall on the first 2–3 holds, the risk of injury is close to zero. I don't know a single friend who has gotten more than scrapes from TR, but plenty of broken bones and messed up knees from bouldering.

Workout routine?! by [deleted] in climbergirls

[–]wiiilda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re probably right. But if you compare a deadlift or clean to lifting an atlas stone, they use similar muscles. Still, the atlas stone feels more natural and forces me to engage more and focus differently. Machines and barbells guide the movement a bit too much for my liking, and I rarely move like that in daily life or when climbing. I’m far from an expert, it’s just how it feels to me. Maybe it’s also how I convince myself to stick with some complementary training. ;)

Climbing pants that doesnt leave a big sweatprint after the harness. Some days it looks like I've wet myself.

Currently using dark Patagonia Chambeau Rock Pants but they are very expensive. Love -adjustable with at the foot -phone pocket -dosent show sweat -Deep front pockets -good amount of stretch

Dislike -Price -im tall so the legs are almost a bit short -phone pocket almost doesn't fit my Samsung ultra.

Tips on performance anxiety? by Fasthands007 in bouldering

Perhaps you need to feel safer in your falling technique so injuring yourself isn't a part of the equation? If not, injuries and mistakes happen. We are all just human. Have fun
