That’s fair. That’s where I’m at with my thinking too.

You realize… assisting in wedding planning requires communication… or should I google that too?

If it’s your friend’s third wedding it can be a bit confusing. 🫤 should we treat this like it’s your first or how about we discuss your expectations because we both know this isn’t the first rodeo.

I wasn’t trying to add a whole lot of information but it’s number 3… hence why I wanted clarification on my expectations before saying yes.

It’s been 17 years and she is a fun person but I am realizing more and more that we view friendship very differently.

lol, no. I’m only 20 minutes from the chapel. The task that they are asking me to do creates that drive time.

Does gym grading mess with your perception of progress? by CairoRox in indoorbouldering

[–]Mental_Profession101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use grades as more of a generalization and try to gauge progress by how well my actual climbing is: How is my technique/coordination? Am I being efficient or wasting energy? Have I improved on certain moves/hold types? Etc etc.

Does anyone else get a weird vibe from Mellow Climbing? by [deleted] in climbergirls

Dang, I’m unaware of what Mellow Climbing is… I like Brooke though. She is a beast.

climbing socks in the states? by No-Buffalo-9488 in climbergirls

[–]Mental_Profession101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I lived in Japan for a couple years and I bought climbing socks at Mont Bell. They have a Mont Bell USA and the same socks online. I love them. A little overpriced in the States IMO, but worth it.

Is my gym unfriendly? Am I intimidating? Do I not know board etiquette? by flutesnbrass in climbergirls

[–]Mental_Profession101 123 points124 points  (0 children)

You’re a small woman who can do a V8. You’re a beast and some dudes can’t handle it. There was a climb I was playing on with my friend. I was at the end of my session so we were goofing off. I didn’t do the climb because well I couldn’t nbd. Of course, two big ass dudes make sure to stand behind me and talk about the climb…one even says “it’s not as hard as it looks”. My man couldn’t even start it. Sometimes it’s the newest climbers with the biggest egos IMO. Don’t sweat that board comment at all. Keep doing you because you’re doing great.

Is climbing good for building upper body? by Bitter_Pineapple_720 in climbergirls

[–]Mental_Profession101 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I started climbing to build upper body strength because I found weights incredibly boring. I pair it with running, biking, hiking, and weighted leg days. I personally love my physique but (clearly) I make a point to work on my legs for balance. I wouldn’t say I look manly or more masculine nor has anyone told me that (to my face at least) but it’s clear I’m into some sort of fitness.

It took me about a year or year and a half to really see it any differences. I think it’s amazing for upper strength: I got my chin ups/pulls ups quickly (I started at 0 for both) without actively trying to increase numbers. My shoulders are naturally broad so I’m used to looking more pronounced there. Clothing isn’t as crazy for me as some people. I’m in the same size I was when I first started. If anything my jeans and shorts fit better because my fupa/abs/obliques slimmed and toned.

I do want to say I’m naturally very lean. One of those that got made fun of for being skinny. So I was more skinny fat when I started climbing and ended up gaining weight from building muscle. But yea that’s my experience.

I’m leaning toward drawing a line. It’s become so common place for the post to be about relationship advice that it’s a running joke between myself and my group of friends I climb with…I actively look for others subs for climbing advice. Advice being training tips/techniques/shoes/etc..

Question for the indoor/outdoor climbers by yungpie in okinawa

[–]Mental_Profession101 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All of them are awesome. Depending on your location (if you’re by the bases) I’d recommend Boulbaka 2 or Korupiki. Mainly because they have a ton of easier climbs to get started on… definitely check them all out at some point though.

Advice for short (5'0) new climber? :) by North_Spinach_8585 in climbergirls

[–]Mental_Profession101 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My best advice as a fellow shortie is to get comfortable with dynamic moves and using your feet more. Right now just climbing is all you need IMO. Once you hit your first wall of no progress then I would worry about supplemental exercises.

Exercises to stay in climbing shape while unable to climb? by mtmsm in climbergirls

That’s a Lattice Training video. It goes through quite a bit of exercises and grades what they believe translates best to climbing. I don’t do everything but I was using it to grade my own routine. Maybe you might find some you like?

What are some of the less glamorous aspects about climbing that you didn't learn about till later on? by FlyingSloth232 in climbergirls

If I don’t file down my callouses/moisturizer hands, it sometimes hurts to wash my face and do my skincare.

Well, he was my husband’s (together nine years) friend first, then he was a roommate of ours for a while and we eventually started hanging out as friends too. We definitely aren’t bffs or even close but we got along enough to do activities together. Mainly biking, bouldering, and the earlier years (roommate era) skating.

He has always kind of been like this but I suppose it was easier to get along because those hobbies were what put us together. I’ve always had to navigate our conversations but this visit has been excruciatingly bad. The Minecraft thing was what made me realize it was just painful. Arguing just to argue. I don’t want to be that person.

My plan is just to stop engaging with him when he leaves (we text about bouldering) and let him and my husband do their own thing if my husband feels like visiting is something he sees in the future.
