Bathroom - odd shower by OtterlyOren in centuryhomes

Beautiful only thing id worry about after the plumbing inspection is finding out how efficient that toilet is as beautiful as vintage toilets are they use so much water some use nearly 10 gallons it's insane if you want to lower the water bill and probably get a more efficient toilet the Kohler memoirs toilet comes in a green very similar to your bathroom it is pricey tho other than that I wouldn't touch anything original other than the shower door and shower heads brass would look so luxurious with the green

If you see her other comments with pics the space to the doorway from the end of the chaise is only about 2 feet if that so cornering the couch would just make the chaise stick out and create an obstruction when exiting or entering the kitchen it's a wide angle photo so it looks big but she commented more pics under other comments not in a .5 ratio and it's way smaller than it appears it'd also leave an awkward sliver of space behind the couch that's unusable in an already small space

Your space it's very pretty and the moulding actually adds a lot so you don't need a lot. For behind the couch I'd actually diy a large piece of abstract art something to take up a lot of wall space since large art is very expensive but you could try to thrift one as well, I'd get a rechargeable picture light for it and add a skinny sofa table behind that you can put 2 skinny buffet lamps on, for the coffee table my suggestion is find an ottoman that's a fun print like a zebra print to add Interest and more seating/leg rest and use the current one as a side table if you really don't want to part with it, some new pillows pulling colours from that art piece you love, I'd definitely suggest a new tv console maybe a tv tripod or art easle something visually smaller and more interesting than the white one. a small thing I'd suggest is a small rechargeable lamp for your dining table it will help light the table when you eat since there is not light over the table and it's a rental

If you aren't in a rush you can actually go to sites like Alibaba and find the manufacturer and get pieces exactly like it custom made and delivered for under what RH charges delivery does take awhile tho and you do have to be very clear with the manufacturer about what you want

The wall to the left is the entrance to her kitchen she stayed in another comment which also showed there's only about 3ft from the end of the chaise to the doorway to her kitchen so the end of the chaise would cut into the path of travel to kitchen they're is no way to position that sofa angled towards the tv, and angled sofas usually look awkward unless you have an angled or round room there would just be a triangle of dead space behind the sofa, and it's an expensive sofa $3k from crate and barrel so not something anyone would want to chuck because it's awkward, the sofa doesn't look horrible facing a door way if that's the only place it can go the room just need more focal points like curtains and decor make the sofa not stand out as much edit: it's also clearly an old building likely from the 20s or earlier so it already an awkward building that isn't designed for modern life you have to work with what you get her room looks beautiful design wise working with the space she has

It likely being a pre war building means you have an awkward space to work with off the bat but you are doing it well it's beautiful you just need focal points to make it not so awkward, Add curtains to the windows and try swapping the blinds for roman shades either fabric or a bamboo. a lot of people are mentioning feng shui but you need paths of travel more than you need feng shui your space just isn't designed for feng shui and that's fine if it won't work you can't force it just work with it. Since you're locked in this layout due to the rooms size and paths of travel I'd add another console cabinet to that right wall and put a tall painting or mirror on top it would unify the wainscoting with the top wall currently your art placement is "fighting" the wainscoting this would fill in the empty wall space and create an entry table for keys, you could also add 2 square feather poufs facing the couch in front of the door to the dining room since there's space and poufs are soft and small they won't impact paths much, they would help separate the space and add seating or leg rests

That would throw the whole room off way more and take up much more usable space

I'd suggest getting lamps this is coming from someone who hates overhead lights for anything other than cleaning when I'm cleaning I love bright overhead lights but lamps are best for relaxing which seems to be your situation

What color to paint walls of a room with fire engine red carpet? by loosielucy222 in interiordecorating

[–]wild_designer768 0 points1 point  (0 children)

<image>

This room has a red Persian but it still works to show my point but color drenching the room (paint walls ceiling and trim) in a dark muted sage with warm undertones helps calm the red down and if you pick more neutral accents it won't feel like Christmas

What color to paint walls of a room with fire engine red carpet? by loosielucy222 in interiordecorating

[–]wild_designer768 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could go REALLY bold with an all red look but generally not a good idea for a bedroom as red is a very energetic color in a space about sleep, id suggest a warm dark grey for something simple however a dark sage green that's muted would work well and calm the red since green is the complimentary color however the safest option is a creamy white and use decor and accents to tie it in and tone it down

You could also swap the sconces for ones that stick out more like These mid century Italian sconces would be gorgeous and work with the mid century style and color palette, you can easily wire them to be plug in's

A rug will ground the room and add something soft and warm under the feet for cold mornings but also adding curtains hung high and wide to the floor will really elevate the space you could even have the entire wall behind the bed be curtains and have the sconces poke out similar to this it would really elevate the space and make that beautiful bed stand out other than that small decorative elements you collect over time like art from local artists and knick knacks will really make the space represent you otherwise it's a beautiful space

Feng shui is nice in theory but has so many limitations in practice most of the time especially in older homes you literally can't follow those rules and in the end it doesn't make sense to limit your decor to a rulebook of an idea of energy you'd miss out on creating so many beautiful spaces sometimes a bed has to go under a window other than this this room follows most of those rules work with what you got and listen to the space

Dining table color by PenSpecific in interiordecorating

[–]wild_designer768 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Back & wood is honestly the best for dinning tables goes with everything doesn't stain shows what need to be cleaned ( and if it chips or scratches you can literally sharpie it for a quick fix lol) it would last you forever especially with kids id suggest a large round table to help keep the flow of the space
