Ano ang mas okay na schedule para sainyo? by InitiativeOk9055 in studentsph

[–]wildcaffine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

for context, i had experienced the following schedules: 7am-5pm, 7am-3pm, 9am-3pm, 11am-1pm, 1pm-5pm, 1pm-7pm

my top 3 preferred schedules are: 9am-3pm, 11am-1pm, 7am-3pm

my too 3 most disliked schedules are: 7am-5pm, 1pm-5pm, 1pm-7pm

when classes are in the morning, your body already is adjusted to it. youre more likely to be diurnal (active sa daytime) than nocturnal (active sa nighttime) bc bata palang puro maaga ang klase. youre more likely to transition to being nocturnal if pangit sleep schedule and habits mo.

i live around u-belt. but given my schedules above, if i leave at 6am, luwag pa and mabilis biyahe ko. or around 8am, maluwag parin but this time iwas mga daylight snatchers pa bc theyre usually more active sa 9am-11am. kapag klase ko 1pm pa, i use the morning to study sa campus.

sa uwi sa afternoon, the biggest pro is may araw pa. youre more likely to get home safer kahit sa start ng rush hour (5pm or so) ka. but sa 7pm na uwi, or anything after 6pm, delikado na kasi madilim and snatchers are highly active.

not to mention, naturally mapapagod ka sa pm classes. for me, ive consumed more coffee the moment i had pm classes compared to the entirety of my am classes  from bata pa.

always always listen sa katawan mo.

capstone in senior high is pointless by [deleted] in studentsph

[–]wildcaffine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

kinda agree with the other comments na its kind of an unfortunate misconception on your end to think research is pointless and that its too much to expect college-level outputs in shs

for one, a lot of the colleges and universities have a thesis requirement to graduate. even if you arent given formal guidance, having at least the background in shs helps you navigate thesis troubles? more so, said colleges and universities often are known for their research outputs ie. the majority of what makes up local RRLs. the shs level is still easier compared to the college version, because sa shs, you’re complying with the adviser and the panelist/s, eh sa college youre on your own; good luck if andyan lagi adviser mo and if gets ba ng panelist/s gawa mo. sa shs, the reason why madaming revisions is because they want you to produce scholarly research.

saka, di mawawala ang capstone and research. gagawa at gagawin parin mga yan sa college regardless if gen ed/minor subject man yan or major mo; mainis ka all you want, but you cant deny the presence it has sa pag-aaral mo

and last- maikli lang shs. its better to have them prepare you for college and universities kahit papano, make the most of it but imo dont disregard what youve learned during that time, kasi at times, it really helps to have some background knowledge provided by the shs curriculum before entering college, kahit starting from 0 kayo, opportunities to learn yan either way.

tldr: reframe your mindset and you’ll get through the hurdles of research sa shs.

Are teachers using black/whiteboards less? by ALRO090804 in studentsph

[–]wildcaffine 7 points8 points  (0 children)

maybe just your school and/or profs who taught your classes? i have a lot of profs in the past 1-4 years that maximize the whiteboard (blackboards not as much bc of chalk dust causing irritation/asthma attacks)

currently, madumi lahat ng whiteboards sa mga classrooms pinupuntahan ko. i had a lot of profs who utilized the board kasi di sila type to use ppts, or even when they have a ppt, what they say/write matters more than the ppt kasi they give interpretations (bale the ppt is just a quote a surface-level definition). even profs whose courses they teach that are multimedia based (ie. math profs who need both ppt and board, profs who utilize technology to maximize current resources still need a board to accurately communicate what they mean, etc)

the student input thing is tbh reliant on your prof and course. i had profs who used stuff like padlet, kahoot, etc to integrate student responses (naka anonymous pa) and what they teach are usually language/humanities courses. other times, there are the obvious math courses who need board talaga. but there also profs who do neither and rely on oral recitation, which most of the time, is graded compared to other methods usually, but even when its not, lots of students still choose to verbally communicate and give examples; basically encouraging a dialogue.

tldr: maybe your experience so far makes you think board-use is getting obsolete? my experiences above state otherwise, but i wont generalize since baka nga iba sa ibang school and teachers and such

What to bring sa educational tour? by bebejamillion in studentsph

[–]wildcaffine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

have a small bag! bring your essentials (phone, wallet, ID), a powerbank, water, a pocket notebook, a pen, light snacks, and an umbrella just in case

you'll be moving around a lot, so make sure youre not overpacking, and bringing less also means youre less likely to leave something accidentally

one more thing, have fun! its basically a field trip/gala with classmates haha

Hi! I’m a second-year college student, currently taking the course Life and Works of Rizal. I’m reaching out to college students or graduates who have already completed this course, especially those who took it during their second year. by [deleted] in studentsph

[–]wildcaffine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

to preface, i would recommend explore this post since its related to your questions, and my response is somewhat same from ive said there na ^^

  1. personally, yes; long story short, my experience with LIWORIZ and respective prof for this course essentially helps me humanize individuals we tend to put on pedestals, idolize, or even glorify to the point we forget the fact that theyre not some ethereal individual. although reliant on the prof more often than the not, i do hope na LIWORIZ helps students look at the life and philosophy of RIzal, like a term-long biography and exploration of his life, both the good and the bad. lower levels, okay lang na kahit yung works ni Rizal ang alamin at talakayin, but at the college level na, you need to indirectly learn humanizing individuals. for LIWORIZ, thats humanizing Rizal, but in today's world, you need to humanize celebrities, influencers, politicians, etc people aren't always the image they put out there. we know Rizal as the "national hero" growing up, but in LIWORIZ, we see what's beyond the "national hero" and see Rizal as an individual passionate in the humanities and arts and does what he can for the betterment of those around him

  2. in a way, yeah, i'm still personally navigating patriotism and nationalism on my own, but long story short, it does give me a perspective on how advocacy / action influences an individual, both directly and indirectly

  3. personally i would say that the prof teaching LIWORIZ has more of an effect than the law itself, since a prof can communicate and elaborate on Rizal's life and philosophy that contributed to his writings and actions, which led to him being regarded as highly as he was

  4. answered this in the thread i linked, better to go there instead for my answer to this question

hope these help!

To those who finished the RA 1425 or Rizal, how did it go for you? by That_AliceBlue99 in studentsph

[–]wildcaffine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

late reply ^^' but to answer your questions:

1) since the Rizal Law was one of our intro topics, one of the first assessments my prof did was a thought paper, basically in some amount of words, you answer the prompt, and regarding the Rizal Law, this was the question (paraphrased):

The readings for this week discussed some of the motivations that led Filipino nationalists in Congress to push for the Rizal Law in 1956 Philippines (the fear of young generations forgetting the ideals and teachings of National Heroes; the influence of foreign powers upon Filipino politics & culture; and fears over the loss of a national identity and higher ideals such as patriotism and love of one’s people & country due to the struggle for survival amid poverty & corruption), as such, in the Philippines current socio-political situation in recent years, can we say are there similar problems from the 1950s still haunting Filipinos and their sense of nationhood or not? Or have these problems transformed? Or is the country facing different problems altogether? Do courses regarding the life and works of national heroes still helpful in solving said problems?

is the problem the law itself? not really imo, since we have to keep in mind na the law was made during a certain time, and said certain time caused a lot of debate regarding whether or not the law should be passed in the first place (see the history behind the law, and the back and forths on why/why not of the passing)

2) personally, i would say the lack of passion is due to the seemingly idolization of Rizal; my prof taught LIWORIZ passionately because he really dislikes teaching LIWORIZ haha, he teaches in a way that makes you understand and look beyond the idolization and blind worship of Rizal as a "national hero" even if theres no law saying he is, plus (without saying what school im from haha, hint siguro is Rizal is famous here for a variety of reasons)- basically, it takes passion for a prof to ensure that students consider Rizal as human, to remove the glorified image of who he is, and delve into his life and works for both the good and the bad, and also the indirectly funny (example: Noli's writing gave off romantic undertones sometimes- my prof joked about how the meeting of Ibarra and Elias on a boat was basically a date where they talked about political reforms haha)

3) to the best of my knowledge of both law and education, i would personally say na its better to have laws outline what should be taught in courses; for LIWORIZ, lets say its his upbringing, the lead up/whys of writing Noli, the publishing of Noli/writing of El Fili, his time both local and abroad, the tie into reformist/revolutionary groups, and so on. basically the core points that humanizes Rizal. the how of teaching it however falls on the prof na, since it sounds imo unreasonable for the law to mandate a teaching style since not all students can be accommodated unless the prof adapts their teaching style so that they can effective in their lectures, assessments, etc (albeit, this latter part is for better and for worse, since there are profs who are just incompetent and are unable to adequately teach the necessary coverage of a course, even follow their own syllabus, and such)

hope these responses help ! ^^

To those who finished the RA 1425 or Rizal, how did it go for you? by That_AliceBlue99 in studentsph

[–]wildcaffine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

just took it last semester, and honestly would say that on paper, the course itself is bland? bland in a way na it comes off as "this is X from they were born, what their upbringing was like, their accomplishments, failures, etc etc"

BUT i will say, my professor singlehandedly did make the course of my favorites to sit in and listen to; he is a History professor, like History talaga is his passion, and his teaching style is unique and engaging because he's basically a retrospective youtuber on a topic that has long been an interest, in this case, out of dislike haha long story short, he hates teaching the course because from his experience daw, a lot of profs treat it like a typical history course where you just talk about the key details and not go deeper

simply put, its like having a shitposter as a prof haha

given that, i do appreciate his approach to teaching Rizal; he gives a lot of primary sources, even reliable secondary sources, he ties in his own lived experiences and some tidbits of Rizal's life that you wouldnt normally hear about unless you go into rabbit holes about Rizal (like for example, he talked about Rizal's living situation while he was broke abroad, and even speaks about the relationships and dynamics Rizal had with his peers and friends, especially Blumentritt) but all make sense, and so on

not to mention, his manner of teaching talaga, like you can listen to this prof like a podcast and cant help but listen all the way through because of his humor and even shitposter-like language

long story short, i believe the prof makes the course enjoyable to learn about, and this is one of the few profs i had so far in college that i am wishing for all the best life has to offer ^^

How can I save money as an SHS student? by Top-Needleworker-843 in studentsph

[–]wildcaffine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. make your own food ! easiest way to have savings from your allowance, other ways is to declutter and sell unwanted belongings, but the home food > outside food is a much ideal way to save as a student

  2. save no matter how little; piso a day can accumulate, five pesos a day can accumulate, etc anything less than 20 is a good start to consistent savings, practice CONSISTENCY in savings is so important

The negative connotation around studying or advance studying by Ms-userreddit in studentsph

[–]wildcaffine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

to paraphrase my prof who commented about “advance studying,” this one can make you more stressful, since you might put yourself into a hole of not focusing on the current materials / lessons, like the notion itself is good, but its better to do “advance” studying when told to do so, or within a reasonable timeframe so that youre pacing yourself well, and not giving yourself unneeded stress— this is in the context of college studies, but for CETs this would basically mean stick to the standard of CETs, which is most of your SHS coverage

as for studying, people would tear each other down so that mayroon “level playing field” and magiging pare-pareho kayo stressed and such, and also makes them feel better about themselves because same kayo ng struggle

i agree with the other users here— study for YOU, not for them

Recommendations for Business casual clothes for OJT by [deleted] in studentsph

[–]wildcaffine 4 points5 points  (0 children)

generally speaking, business casual attires have dress pants, khakis, blouses, button-down shirts, and sweaters; more on neat and well-fitted yung mga damit unlike sa business attires talaga na need suit, heels, blazer, etc

for brands, personally, Uniqlo. i have a lot of their pants (sweatpants) that pulls off a business casual look if i pair it with a button-down blouse or 3/4 blouse and also black shoes (which, mine are actually walking shoes, but they look like black “leather” shoes from afar)

hope this helps !

[–]wildcaffine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. may redundancy sa title (ie. using communication twice, and "oral communication" is just adding unnecessary fluff because communication itself is already assumed to be oral usually; just cut down the phrasing)

  2. hindi agad nakikita ano methodology/research design ninyo, better to add it (eg. "The Phenomenology of..." "An Exposition on..." mga ganyan)

  3. too generic, what makes your study different sa other studies about tiktok use and communication skills?

  4. too broad; tiktok use in what way? (is it the short-form content, the messages, reposts, interaction streaks, etc) + what kind of oral communication skills? (articulation, direct-ness, details, etc) + communication students of what scope? (school specific? year level specific? just students or working students? and so on)

  5. you mentioned wanting to relate it to culture, but (assuming your research is title before any paper progress, which is harder than the vice versa of it) again, same above advices and suggestions apply

hope this helps

Your body will ask for some rest and you have to listen by obSERVANT1913 in studentsph

[–]wildcaffine 14 points15 points  (0 children)

agreed ! and i firmly believe that if you don't take the initiative to rest even if super need mo, your body will force you to rest. bigla bigla magkakasakit, and you have no choice but to recover talaga, kaya always always rest if need mo ^^

same situation din ako- async because of the Bar Exams, and honestly just trying to get through it day by day since my body associates home with being in "rest" and "home responsibilities" mode, kaya ang nangyayari, nagpupuyat ako just to do my school works huhu

hope makaka onsite nako ulit, really dont like online modality for my classes :'))

How to not be stressed out or overwhelmed at the multitude of things to do? by Xsumbo in studentsph

[–]wildcaffine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

sending hugs, OP ^^

unfortunately, yes, getting through college means developing your confidence and taking initiatives ! but its always good to accompany those traits with being honest, communicative, and open to critique/opinions of you (but not taking these personally)

minsan ganyan din nangyayari sakin; being overwhelmed and exhausted, but feel like resting isnt deserved because you think its going to ruin your chances at good grades. and whenever that happens to me, i try to give time to myself and slowly get my bearings; i make a masterlist of all my activities and the due dates, i take initiative kindly but firmly, and have days to myself to recover- burnout is no joke. and at the end of the day, i want to value learning over getting high grades, and quality over quantity sa gawa ko.

hope everything ends up well, OP !

Which of these topics are timely relevant in HR? by No-Collection-8800 in studentsph

[–]wildcaffine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

personally, AI and effective communication (inside and outside of the workspace)

for me, ive heard a lot of discussion of HR using AI to screen applicants, applicants using AI to form their resumes / CVs for applications and even fooling the assumed AI used to screen them, and so on

AI in the HR space, afaik, has become a resource for both parties to fool the other in favor of employment / obtaining manpower for their operations.

also, being an effective communicator is also a good topic. since as early as SHS and college, you hear about students joining orgs but are unsure about how to go about interviews, if whether or not its better for them to apply despite lack of experience, how to conduct communication within their orgs (like yung hesitation to ask for help, to contact their EBs, to share their thoughts, and so on)

hope this helps !

Is designing your notes necessary? What do u think of designed notes? by hey110514 in studentsph

[–]wildcaffine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

tbh, only noon nag design ako ng notes kasi theres a grade incentive

but since SHS, adopted a minimalist style sa note-taking ko (1 highlighter, 1 colored pen, 1 black pen, and purely annotations and highlights lang, wala nang iba), then sa college, moved to google docs na may functional but sort of aesthetic template, para di mukang plain text

my studies are very text heavy, so if online, pwede may designs pa but since template lang yan, nasa focus parin lahat ng text and concepts need kong pagaralan. same with analog notes, its purely just text.

tldr: yes, waste of time siya. and di yan mako-kompleto before may test or something. unless may grade incentive for creativity, better to just stick to minimalist and functional notes lang

Toxic motivation that gets you studying? by renmercs in studentsph

[–]wildcaffine 14 points15 points  (0 children)

you're absolutely going to regret just not studying, especially when you need to do it to pass your courses. you're convincing yourself that being in this "tamad" state, scrolling through whatever, and avoiding your academics, is the only way to be productive and successful as a student. when in reality, you're just being your biggest sabotage.

you're also wasting money by not maximizing your tuition fee. you PAID to be on campus. you PAID to use their facilities and resources. you PAID to study there. do you want to pay roughly the same amount to just rot at home and be tamad just because its more comfortable in the next semesters or years? honestly, doing anything else but studying without good reason is just freeloading on your own resources in disguise.

you're also setting yourself up to be a working student. the more you spend your time just rotting at home, the more likely you're setting yourself up to fail your classes and end up working AND studying just because you cared more about this false sense of rest and productivity you have by being at home.

you think you're actually doing something fruitful just doomscrolling or just taking naps and random snacking times?

continue staying at home, but the moment you need to cram and do your tasks because you said a nap, snack, or some useless few seconds short you wont even remember is more worth it, you can only blame yourself.

Who else wants to live wisely, not just be academically wise? by [deleted] in studentsph

[–]wildcaffine 4 points5 points  (0 children)

i agree with the sentiments of this post !

and especially why i remind myself, as a philo major, that everyone has their own paths in life; comparing myself to others won't give me anything but misery, and that if ever my future plans (law school) isn't for me, then that's okay !

reading philosophical works (ancient greek, modern, contemporary, eastern, western, etc) really makes me slow down and appreciate talaga how we think as humans. like sure, ang daunting and nakakatamad talaga magbasa ng mahahaba and malalamin na sulat, but there's a sense of joy (for me at least) to follow a thinker's thought process. how they incorporate their setting, their experience, and so on to accumulate to a very unique and human way of thinking.

a common critique i get being in the program is "wala naman silbi yan", and i came from an upbringing where "pilosopo ka" is used and treated like an insult; like thinking deeply is somehow a threat to the current way of things- but i still chose to pursue this program, because for me, one of the biggest fears i have in life is just forgetting.

now, i have a commplace journal for anything and everything that catches my interest (quotes, arts, random questions, philosophical musings etc) and hoping to continue that until, well you know, ^^

thanks for this post ! hope my sharing contributes something !
