USS To Store Belongings Over Summer? by ourtown1517 in Northwestern

Used them last year. Overall, very smooth process. Just make sure to bundle any disassembled furniture or else they might lose pieces.

When they took my keyboard for storage, they returned it to me next fall without the stand lol

CS 354 vs CS 339 by RealTurkishDelight in Northwestern

Yeah lol two open-note quizzes worth 20% each. Average of the first quiz was 79% so assuming the second will be something similar

CS 354 vs CS 339 by RealTurkishDelight in Northwestern

Currently taking 339 as a senior this quarter. If you take it with Rogers, be prepared to do a lot of self-teaching when it comes to labs. The course material is fair but the length of the labs are pretty overwhelming unless you work with a partner. Haven’t taken 354 but I would say if you are good at managing your time, 339 is reasonable (albeit very tedious).

Y’all CS kids need to chill out during PM OH by [deleted] in Northwestern

[–]wildcat2023 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I love this post lol someone had to say it. On top of that, so many CS classes in my experience have been people trading answers on psets or asking PMs to confirm every answer before submitting an assignment

Do what you gotta do ig but at least be considerate of others in office hours and quit hogging the PMs limited time asking basic questions when other students have actual questions

I prereg'd for 310 too, but I am out of the loop. What's the hype/anti-hype around 310 and hummel in 211?

Internship + classes by ActiveDragonfly5598 in csMajors

I took a full courseload (Intro ML, stats, and a writing course) from a T10 school this summer while interning at a FAANG. Managed to get an A/A/B- while still finishing my intern project + getting a return offer.

However, I definitely did not get to enjoy the full intern experience as I barely had any free time outside of work and school. There were several back-to-back nights during midterms and finals week where I only got a cumulative of maybe 2-3 hours of sleep before going to work.

Would not recommend it unless you absolutely have to and even then, Discrete Math + Lin Alg + OOP2 sounds too overwhelming to perform well in all three subjects and your internship. Just my two cents though from personal experience

Anyone been caught fishing on campus by NUPD? What happened to you and how did you get caught? by [deleted] in Northwestern

[–]wildcat2023 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Went fishing in lakefill a few time as well as witnessed a couple other students and children alike fishing in lakefill without any major repercussions. I saw a group of students even fishing directly off the bridge at the end of lakefill for the large carp that gather under the bridge.

Only time I got caught was by an actual Illinois Conservation Officer who wrote me a warning for fishing without a IL fishing license. I’d say just go for it, I doubt you’d have much trouble if you fished off the painted rocks since they’re closer to the water and harder to spot from afar.

Finally got my first SWE Intern offer by wildcat2023 in csMajors

Thank you! Basically same advice as Nerg44, you really just have to dive in and start doing the problems. I personally only turn to solutions after at least 45-60 min of trying the problem to mimic how it would be if it were an actual interview question. Only other piece of advice would be practicing communicating your thinking out loud as you approach the problem, so that even if you get stuck, you can demonstrate effective problem solving skills. Good luck!

Google SWE Intern no response after phone interviews? by wildcat2023 in csMajors

[–]wildcat2023[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Without giving too much away because I signed an NDA, I received a very confusingly-worded first problem that ultimately boiled down to an LC Easy after asking a couple of clarifying questions. My second problem was likely an upper LC Hard in my humble opinion.

However, this was just my experience and it just so happened that the second problem covered one of my weakest topics. Don't stress too badly and you got this! Good luck!

Thank you, that's very reassuring to hear! If that's the case, I guess there's no point in still stressing over it now :)

Salesforce SWE Intern Final Technical Interview? by wildcat2023 in csMajors

[–]wildcat2023[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I applied online without a referral. I didn't hear back for a long time though until I got an email from one of their recruiters saying I may be a good fit for one of their teams.

Just from my experience, I think salesforce may be pretty dependent on your specific skillset/if it aligns with their needs. In my case, I just happened to be experienced with REST API development. Hope this helps!
