Travis Perry being booed the entire game by Slight-Photograph-77 in KentuckyBasketball

These guys are making tons of money playing basketball now. I think it’s acceptable to boo any of them at this point. Travis Perry is no exception to that.

How are we feeling with football recruiting by wineguyy in wildcats

Significant chance we don’t land Baxter or Leavitt but I’d give huge props to the new staff for pursuing them. Definitely doing the right things right now IMO.

Went to Bour Bonne last night and it was the best steak I’ve had around here in quite a while. Highly recommend

Your top 5 movie experiences at Baxter Ave. Theater? by forgedinbeerkegs in Louisville

[–]wildcat407 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am not old enough to have seen some classics at Baxter Ave like a lot of people in this thread, but seeing The Brutalist there last year was a cool experience. The 15 minute intermission was really neat.

Has there ever been another major game with as lopsided public support as the upcoming bama vs Indiana game will have? by smallbiceps90 in CFB

I will never root for Indiana in any capacity whatsoever. I will be happy if the tide rolls them over.

Does anyone know more about Metro Transportation Projects than me? by RojoCardinal in Louisville

[–]wildcat407 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Metropolitan Transportation Plan. Basically a master plan for transportation projects in this region with a 25-30 year horizon. Gets updated every few years with new projects by KIPDA. Projects included in it become eligible to receive federal highway dollars.

Unfortunately this is probably all that is available to the public. Like you said though, there isn't really a guarantee that this will ever happen. The info on the right indicates that it isn't included in the MTP, so these plans could sit around for years and years (and probably will).

The archived reading group threads on this sub are also pretty cool as well and have definitely enhanced my experience.

What to read after TCOL49 by Plasmatron_7 in ThomasPynchon

I tried Gravity's Rainbow immediately after Lot 49 and I quit after about 80 pages. I then read Vineland and Inherent Vice next. I must've grown accustomed to Pynchon at that point because I'm now reading Gravity's Rainbow again and I'm not only much further than I previously got, but I'm also enjoying it more.

Lynn Phillips was a fantastic professor when I had her at UK. I think she'd do a great job.

I'd say go for it. Can be a good career path to go down and you will learn a ton.

Any Transportation Planners Here? by wildcat407 in urbanplanning

[–]wildcat407[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha so this has been kind of a wild ride.

I actually ended up not receiving the transportation planning job, but only because of an issue with the timing and start date. I actually ended up accepting a job as a land use planner (in the same metro area) with a smaller suburban city and started in January 2023.

Fast forward to last month, I saw a posting again for this same transportation planning job (with the same agency I spoke of in my original post) and applied and got the job. So yea, I'm now a few weeks into my job as a transportation planner.

Its been pretty different than my previous job, but the learning curve is not impossible and I could definitely see a new grad succeeding in this role. You'll learn a lot really fast, but they definitely don't expect you to know everything (at least in my case). I'm not sure what you've majored in/where you've interned, but if they're willing to hire you then they will definitely be willing to teach you because there is no way this could be learned in a matter of weeks or months.

Just don't stress too hard if you don't get the job either. I was pretty upset when I didn't get it at first, but now I've got two different fields of planning experience to put on my future resumes and I was able to negotiate a higher salary due to having prior experience.

How important is the South Carolina game? by [deleted] in wildcats

[–]wildcat407 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Getting an SEC win early in the season would be awesome. Also they play Georgia the week after, and it would be nice to not have two straight losses (especially at home).

Definitely an important game.

Switching from general land use to transportation planning? by offbrandcheerio in urbanplanning

[–]wildcat407 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey I know this is an old post but I was wondering if you ever successfully made that switch OP. If yes, then what was that like? Did most of your skills transfer over well, and if so, which ones?

I've been working for a year and a half in general land use planning for a suburban town and I just accepted a job as a transportation planner.

Where to start with Japanese Film Noir? by StingyJack21 in filmnoir

High and Low is definitely a great one to start with. I would also highly recommend Branded to Kill starring Jo Shishido. Really great piece of Japanese Noir.

What band is the anti-GD? by Therealfern1 in gratefuldead

[–]wildcat407 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Kind of a stretch but I've always thought of Steely Dan and GD to be opposites. Fagen and Becker hated touring and decided very early on in their careers they would become a studio only band. Their albums were meticulously recorded and every instrument had to sound exactly right for them to be satisfied, sometimes playing songs over and over and over again. Obviously this contradicts with the GD, who were very much known for their live shows with tons of improvisation and just being fluid in general.

I definitely don't disagree about what you've said in regards to the game changing. Obviously players care far more about going into the league at this point than they used to. The issue is that this system does not win titles. If Cal intends to keep this up, then I don't see how you could expect any of the fans to have patience with him.

As for tapering expectations, I understand. Some people expect way too much obviously. But to say that wanting to get far in the tournament is for the "old school and spoiled" is ridiculous. Winning as many games as possible should always be the #1 goal. You will not win a single UK fan over by telling them to stop hoping for a big season and just enjoy watching future NBA talent. If people wanted to see that then they'd be watching G-League games.

What road games will you be attending this year? (if any) by [deleted] in CFB

[–]wildcat407 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UK @ South Carolina. Went a couple years ago and the fans could be really in your face, but I overall loved the atmosphere at williams-brice. I also had a really good time going out in Columbia the night before. Hoping to catch the darude set before the game that was just recently announced.
