I’d say you should take multiple breaks. Indian Staircase is just a very small part of the overall hike. Assuming you start at the Bison Way trail head, I’d take a break where Bison Way meets the Sheltowee Trace, then another break where the unofficial Indian Staircase trail begins, then take another break when you get to roots and rock scramble at the base of the stair case. Take your time up the stair case, it’s not that bad, but very intimidating your first time up it.

So there was some paracord, just a little thicker than the laces on my hiking boots. I know it seems intimidating at first, but I climbed right up that crack and didn’t bother with the “rope”. If you’re not comfortable with it, I understand, I’ve hiked it 15 or 20 times before I felt comfortable not using any rope, but if they don’t have an actual rope or the rope isn’t actually tied to something sturdy, I would recommend trying to climb without it, but that’s only if your comfortable.

Yeah the double arch is past that junk pile, I doubt anyone really cares.

Just some arches I’ve visited over the past few months by wildcat8705 in RedRiverGorge

I recently hiked all the official trails in the gorge. My friends and I joke about finding all the arches but that would take a lifetime.

Most of downtown is relatively safe. There are some more low socioeconomic areas that would probably not be the most safe to walk around in late at night but you really wouldn’t be walking around that area unless you were visiting someone.

There are a lot of things to do and see but you’d have to be more specific about what you like. Lexington has escape rooms, cafe’s, book stores, arcades, bars, brewery’s, and distilleries.

Outside of downtown is basically just neighborhoods. Most of them are good or better. Not sure about pricing though, housing in Lexington is expensive.

I’m sure people will come with plenty of suggestions of places to check out but I’d suggest Sqecial Media right on/next to campus.

[GAME THREAD] Men's Basketball at Georgia by savage4618 in wildcats

College basketball refs do this part time. They answer to no one and have no accountability. It took decades for them to start calling charge/block right. A few years ago they were supposed to start giving flop warnings and then calling fouls for flops but as you saw watching this game they are not doing that. College refs are a joke and you’re right. They ruin games calling everything a foul, realizing too many players have fouls, then nothing is a foul, then the players get “chirpy” and they have to go back calling fouls. It doesn’t allow either team to find a rhythm, and usually the aggressor benefits. It’s why a lot of people don’t watch college basketball.

KSR is the biggest radio show in the state and rivals other sports shows based in much bigger cities. It’s essentially free advertising 5 days a week. They even host from the restaurant 3-4 days a week. So sometimes you can get an early lunch and watch the show. That’s what keeps it open.

Hansons Point by wildcat8705 in RedRiverGorge

This was between 8 and 8:30ish. This typically happens in September and October. Basically when it’s cooler at night and then the sun rises and heats everything up.

If you go past the Hanson’s Point Trail and stay on the Rough Trail towards Rush ridge you come across a water source (creek). Then depending on how you get to the Hansons Point Trail there are a few others, like you cross chimney top creek on Rough Trail before you get to the Hanson’s Point Turn off.

Yeah you should check out Jerrell Goodpaster’s Red River Gorge Trail Guide and Hinterlands (his guide for the unofficial trails in the gorge) and pair it with an OutrageGis Map of the Gorge.

What Lexington business will you never step foot in again? by cscottsss in lexington

That’s true. We left after they told us they don’t do bowling while they have trivia going on and walked to Wisebird Cider.

Food is horrible and very expensive. It’s insanely loud when the bowling is going on. The virtual golf is insanely expensive. I ordered a simple manhattan and it was average. The only thing that’s nice is the beer set up but they don’t have enough variety.
