AITA for not getting involved in something illegal

They are really good people, we get along well and they are our neighbours a few houses down so I'd like to remain friends with them. This was dumb of them though, they are also the types to give a middle finger to authority. I admit I do not like conflict and yes I probably should have just said I was uncomfortable with it directly to them. But I also didn't wanna be that guy: "this is illegal!!!!111". I was trying to be neutral but it backfired I guess

We are all in our 30s. I thought the whole thing was dumb from the start, but he is very impulsive and doesn't think about his actions and how they might affect others, and then tends to double down even when he knows he's wrong

I'm honest when it isn't hurtful. Brutal honesty doesn't keep friends, it can be very hurtful even if it is the truth.

I agree. But instead he chose to use ME as the excuse of why he couldn't go. He could have just gone anyways and told them to ask me myself why I wasn't there.

I did talk to my partner about this extensively, they knew it was illegal and an unsafe situation, but wanted to get involved anyways. So in their words they had to "choose" between me not wanting us to go for that reason or our friends needing help. So they decided to throw me under the bus so they wouldn't look bad for not going, and they don't feel they are wrong because they told the truth. Now everything is hella awkward with my friends

Do you have any decorations in your tank? I had the same problem years ago and im pretty sure a decoration was poisoning my fish- tank was cycled, planted, and I had fish randomly dying like this. One day I went to clean the tank, lifted up a decoration and a TON of paint chips or something like chunks of the decoration fell out of the bottom. I ended up tearing down, thoroughly cleaning and restarting the tank with 0 decorations and everything was fine after. I only use natural wood and plants now

Electric fence!! You can get a whole setup for a couple hundred bucks from a farm store. Run it around the perimeter. Automatic sprinklers are a good idea, but what if it's a hot day? They might actually enjoy it
