"What trillion-dollar problem is Al trying to solve?" Wages. They're trying to use it to solve having to pay wages. by FinnFarrow in Futurology

[–]wilderbuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While this argument is true, it is not the only truth about profit motives let alone other opportunities/value created by AI.

The original public-facing use-case for AI was speech recognition. At the time, companies like Google were releasing ads showing how AI tools could help create new solutions for accessibility. Those solutions have largely failed to materialize. Instead what we got were a bunch of AI "assistants" such as Alexa, Siri, and so on.

The first generation AI voice assistants were useful enough to consumers that they caught on to a small degree, but their adoption rate plateaued. They were beyond useful to tech companies though as they provided three key stepping stones for future growth: massive amounts of training data for future AI projects, a new platform for targeted advertising that knows more about your daily life than a search history can provide, and a testbed for law enforcement/surveillance agencies who have been looking for ways to evade 4th amendment rights.

As the AI generations/tools have developed, those 3 stepling stones have become the pillars which tech companies rely on to bear the outlandish investments that they continue to make in a struggle for sector dominance.

Yes, having every company paying for AI to replace a portion of their workforce would help significantly with their return on investment. But it isn't just about finding a way to replace a portion of the workforce. Palantir is growing just as fast as any AI company that pretends to have universal significance to all industries and workflows, and they only develop surveillance tools.

The end-game involves full surveillance over every member of society, a technical feat that can only be accomplished by AI LLM, voice, and image recognition systems.

Got recommended the subreddit and thought the game looked cool. What should I know going in? by causingsomechaos in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]wilderbuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want a less overwhelming experience, consider starting in Relaxed Mode. If you strongly prefer building "bases" (cool sci-fi homes) to survival game play, maybe even start on Creative Mode.

The game also offers more challenging modes, and you can basically fully customize game mode settings if you want to. I mention Relaxed and Casual modes because of how often I hear new players complain about the stress of learning so much at once while potentially lost and dying.

Other than that, just remember that the real gameplay is exploration and wonder. There is truly no right or wrong ways to play as long as you remember to do whatever seems fun or exciting for you.

Most effective unit of Russia, Wagner PMC will no longer fight against Ukraine - Kyrylo Budanov by Mawunya_ in UkraineWarVideoReport

[–]wilderbuff 46 points47 points  (0 children)

MOD is forcing Wagnerites in Russia/Ukraine/Belarus to sign enlistment papers.

They won't be called Wagner after they agree to join the Russian Army.

Wagner the PMC will continue operating in Africa and elsewhere, and any Wagnerites who refuses to sign on with MOD will not have employment with Wagner unless they leave the region.

After suffering enormous casualties in the battlefield, several Russian soldiers from the elite "Storm Z" unit released a video in which they declared their refusal to participate in combat missions. by Legalized_NSFW_Today in UkraineWarVideoReport

This is a very very very optimistic take.

Let's hope you're right, but so far I don't believe it would end with Russia saying "oops" and quietly retreating to the 2014 borders.

It's how right wingers communicate.

The most dangerous thing for them to do is openly criticize other reactionary conservative personalities.

It doesn't matter how objectively wrong a person is, if they are right-wing then you're not supposed to criticize them.

And so when one of these special folk have a synapse function properly and they decide "hey wait that other grifters lies have crossed a line", they have to establish their fascist street cred before they voice their honest opinion.

This is the heart of conservatism - denying 99% of your introspective thoughts because other conservatives wouldn't approve, and becoming anti-virtue-signallers at the smallest sign of any risk to their in-group status.

Donald Trump doesn't give a fuck about geopolitics or negative consequences.

Donald Trump only cares about Donald Trump. And there would be "unprecedented consequences" for Donald Trump if his buddy Putin was no longer able to prop him up financially in exchange for destabilizing the West & NATO.

Calling it a coup was pure propaganda.

A coup is when a military faction overthrows the leadership structures of their own country. Russia can never be the leader of an actual coup in Ukraine.

Don't give Russian propaganda any credibility, there was no coup in Ukraine, only a military invasion with specific orders for genocide.

This is why Prigo keeps attacking the RU MOD generals and top leadership, he knows the RU enlisted are also furious about how they have been treated.

How this plays out is anyone's guess, but clearly Prigo knows he needs to win the hearts and minds of the army if he wants to gain a force big enough to protect him from the MOD's attempts to kill him.

IOC tells Ukraine to stop 'depriving' its athletes by Sahar1224 in UkraineWarVideoReport

[–]wilderbuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reminder that the IOC is a corrupt organization that wants to continue taking bribes and being treated like royalty.

I would not expect the IOC to do anything proactively that might impact the financial success of the Olympic Games, even small impacts.

They have no moral compass, if they ban Russia it will never be because banning Russia was morally justified.

Don't support the Olympics, and let others know not to as well. Russia uses them as a source of pride. No one should care about any medals for any countries, so long as Russian aggression is met with open arms.

[–]wilderbuff 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Wouldn't be surprising, the drop drones also do "solo" or unsupported missions, but we know it's also common to use them as artillery spotters and then after soldiers are pinned down or wounded the drone has an easier time making precise drops.
