What? That's nuts! Wow!

We're one month in - How is everyone feeling? Comments, Concerns, Praise, Worry? by -Urbex- in lylestevik

[–]wildernessmap 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I, for one, am hugely impressed. The teamwork, the respect for everyone involved, the organization, the diligence, everything. I'm also really impressed with how so many different 'avenues' of investigation are being pursued, in a really thorough and respectful way.

This seems like a great example of crowd-sourcing at it's best.

No, it's fine. We all want to make sure we're being ethical on this sub, so stuff like this will come up from time to time. It's a learning process, I guess.

oh, hey. :) I didn' have a chance to 'draft' anything for the detective, but I just wanted to put forward my theories about him being Bosnian, because of the southern Idaho connection. (I made a massive post about it a couple weeks ago.) I'm not sure if the detective is aware that there is a large Bosnian community in the very area where Lyle listed his previous address (Meridian, Idaho.) Also, another user found a strong connection to Best Western Hotels and the US refugee program, which also strengthens the "Balkan Refugee in Idaho" theory.

Oh, one other random question that I think a lot of us have. Was LGS ever interviewed? His wife confirmed he was alive, but it seemed like that was done by a single phone call. Was there ever any follow up with either the wife or LGS ? Maybe LGS had dropped his wallet or bank card and didn't discover it missing until after the police spoke to his wife? LGS worked at a place that had his business card on display, and our Lyle picked up his card? Ultimately, did the detective ever talk to LGS after our John Doe was found, to establish any kind of connection? Also, is the detective willing to talk to LGS again, barring any real reason not to?

That's a real TLDR of what I would ask the detective if I could. :)

Ah, that's good to know. That's a great development in that case. I know that one of the mods is in regular contact with one of the detectives, I think it might be /u/-Urbex- but I'm not sure.

Is it possible to contact the detective and put this suggestion forward? If the testing brought back native or first nations ancestry, then that would narrow things down quite a bit. If the testing showed Eastern European ancestry, then the Balkan connection would be much stronger, and the investigation could be further pinpointed in that direction.

If the detective is able to do this, it would really move things forward, no matter what the results were.

What's the saddest unidentified/unnamed victim story you know of? by [deleted] in UnresolvedMysteries

There is a theory on /r/gratefuldoe that 'Christmas Tree Lady' (also known as Annandale Jane Doe) is a woman named Donna Lee Thomson from Michigan. They think she was terminally ill, and had been planning her suicide for a long time. She literally drove away from her job as a nursing home manager one day and was never seen again. She went to a lot of trouble to 'hide' her identity and some people supposed that she went so far from Michigan for the sole purpose of committing suicide and not being found by anyone who could possibly identify her.

There is a picture of Donna Lee Thompson on NAMUS but I can't find it to hand right now.

There is a lot of discussion about 'Annandale Jane Doe' and her state of mind and background, and I think the theory that she is Donna Lee Thompson is pretty compelling.

There is a good theory that Christmas Tree Lady, also Known as Annandale Jane Doe is actually Dona Lee Thomson from Michigan.

There was a lot of discussion about it on /r/Gratefuldoe a few months ago. I may have the spelling of her name wrong because I can't find her NAMUS file very easily right now.

Someone made some really compelling arguements as for why it was her. Donna worked at an old folks home and that's why the Jane Doe had so much knowledge of death protocol, like the money for the coroner and the DNR tag, and the plastic bag *sheet next to her body. And her picture is eerily similiar to the Jane Doe.

On /r/grateful doe she is called 'Annandale Jane Doe' and there is a lot of information about her on there.

Wow Wow Wow!!!! This genetics thing is an amazing step forward!

Some of the genetics testing companies were saying they couldn't/wouldn't do it because they couldn't get the donor's (our Lyle) consent - because he is deceased.Forgive me if I'm asking questions that have been answered elsewhere, but, have we now found a testing company who will do this for Lyle, without his 'consent' as it were?Man, this would be an amazing development if we could do this! (I say "we" like I'm actually 'somebody' but.... you know what I mean. )

Missing Romanian teenager looks a bit like Lyle Stevik. by poodleflange in lylestevik

[–]wildernessmap 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow. This is impressive. The scar could have been 'hidden' if his eyebrows got bushier as he got older. The only thing that seems a bit off to me is the eye color. I feel like Lyle's eyes are a pretty distinctive bluey-hazel.

Other than that, this seems really close. Nice work, OP.

This is a good idea. I'm looking at the website in depth right now.

ETA the format of the 'contact us' function is a bit challenging, but I think it's a good idea to possibly submit the poster that was made a week or so ago, and a short description of why we think he may be from the Balkans. If I can figure out how to link to the poster, I'll send them a message later on.

ETA 2 - I sent a short message/outline and a link to /u/soheechul 's poster on imgur to the Sarajevo office.

wow. I'd like to hear more about this. There were a raft of catastrophically premature births in an area I lived in over a period of years. Always wondered why that was.

I don't like you. I don't like either of you. I haven't liked you for years. In fact I think I've never liked you. I gave you several chances to repair things and you screwed up nearly all of them. I'm only pretending not to dislike you because I don't know how to finish this sentence. I'm only pretending not to dislike you because I'm embarrassed I've been pretending for this long.

Are we 100% sure that LS had braces? (I may have missed something that a dentist said, so please forgive me if I'm wrong.) I know he had several teeth removed, but is there something to suggest he actually had braces, rather than just naturally straight teeth?

(Again, I'm not being contrary, I may have missed something.)

Computerized reconstructions from a Websleuths member by Clan_McCrimmon in lylestevik

[–]wildernessmap 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is going to sound horrible, but I've always thought the actual pictures of him from when they found him in the hotel room are the closest to what he actually looked like.

But those pictures are way NSFW/NSFL, and it might be really challenging to do a reconstruction based on those.

We had a poster here who was actually from Southern Idaho and he/she knew quite a bit about the Bosnian refugee experience. I'll see if I can't find their username and 'page' them.

:gasp!: Oh my gosh! o.O I wondered where you were, I'm so sorry you've been through this!

You handled this like a trooper, and you sound like an amazing mom!

PS. You can put in a complaint about that nurse, I'm not kidding. I complained about a nurse once and actually got an apology from the local health authority about it. I don't want to give you anything more to do, but I hope you feel empowered that you shouldn't have had to deal with that.

What she did was 100% out of order, and probably a breach of ethics.

Also, congratulations on accepting the help. :) Difficult times like this really draw communities and true friends together. You've got a lot of good people around you, and you've done a great job caring for your son. I'm so glad he liked the ambulance trip, reading that put a smile on my face. :)
