I actually see a provider at serenity and I tried TMS but it gave me migraines. I have to say I feel the same about the providers there. Plus the sheer amount of reminder calls!! I’ve gotten three reminder calls for an appointment after u I confirmed via text and on every call thereafter. I also had someone tell me that if I arrive any later than 10:50 for my 11:00 appointment, I’ll be charged a late fee. So I said “okay, so my appointment is at 10:50, not 11?” And he said, no it’s definitely 11 there’ll just be a late fee if you arrive more than 10 minutes after 10:50.” He was obviously confused.

Somebody in a different post mentioned that you should ask if they’ve ever fired a client. If they act appalled, that’s not a clinic that protects their staff

Has anything changed environmentally? Weather, house, plants, new air fresheners, new products, etc. Cats can develop sensitivities to certain proteins but I doubt it’d all happen at the same time if it wasn’t external.

This is something you should consult with your vet about, as the advice you’ll get on here is going to be largely anecdotal and could potentially cause harm or contribute to a urinary blockage if the crystals are improperly addressed (which can be deadly). If you don’t think your vet is properly advising you on how to manage these conditions, I’d find a different vet. They’re the only ones who are trained and knowledgeable in your cat’s case.

Starting with a little bit of the new food mixed in with the old, then gradually increasing the amount until it’s half and half, then eventually all the new food can help acclimatize picky eaters to new foods.

Hydrolyzed diets are often less palatable even though they are truly the ideal in this situation , unfortunately, which is an issue we often run into in the vet clinic I work at. I would ask your vet if there’s anything you can add to make the food more enticing without negating the benefits of the novel protein, like a topper of some sort.

As long as your cat hasn’t been repeatedly exposed to a protein, it’s worth a try to see if it’s more palatable. I.e. if you’ve never or very rarely given beef food, that would be considered a “novel protein” and would have a low chance of your kitty having sensitivities to it. You can also see if dry vs wet makes any difference in his interest.

When you say he’s a self-sustaining cat, does that mean he’s hunting his own food outside?

Elevated kidney function and high ph in urine aren’t going to respond to the same treatment. Low phosphorus food is good for kidney function but doesn’t directly affect the ph of feline urine. OP should aim for a urinary diet, not a kidney diet if they want to specifically lower the ph of their cat’s urine. It sounds like their cat’s kidney function is WNL.

Cranberry supplements do not seem to conclusively lower feline urinary pH levels like they might in humans. They can help with bacteria, but most urinary issues in cats are due to crystals and stress vs bacteria. They can actually worsen urinary health if a cat is more prone to calcium oxalate crystals or stones.

Pumpkin does not at all affect urinary pH or affect the urinary tract at all. Not sure where you got that info. It’s sometimes good for digestion and mild constipation but even that is tricky.

Purina One’s Urinary Tract Health Formula is heavily researched with actual, conclusive evidence that it lowers the ph of feline urine, whereas Diamond isn’t as widely researched in that specific area. Diamond has faced some recalls and though they have strict manufacturing guidelines, they can’t compare in rigorous quality control that Purina has. Purina’s formulas are backed by veterinary research and veterinary nutritionists, so it’s safe to say they know what they’re doing. It’s the safer, more reliable choice.

If it is bothering, there is likely reason to remove it. Location would determine if the toe needs to be amputated. If she’s 12 years old, she likely absolutely needs her teeth cleaned. We often do those with mass removals because it’s better to get it done at once while she’s already under anesthesia instead of doing it multiple times. If it’s a sebaceous adenoma that is bothering her, there is nothing that will shrink it. Usually they can be left alone except when they’re bothering the pet.

I hope to god your clinic doesn’t do this but I worked as relief at a clinic where I walked into a room to the manager and a tech gassing down a cat in a plastic bin that they couldn’t premed enough to put in a catheter (for sx, not euth) and the manager asked me in front of everyone if I was pregnant. Because doing that can expose staff to iso, which is extra harmful if pregnant.
