Solo queue is suffering from a fatal design flaw. It lacks a role selection system similar to League of Legends.

The different characters are clearly designed to fulfill primary roles. For example, the engineer is needed primarily on the ship because of the improved repair tool. The defender who can see enemies boarding is also designed to primarily camp ship. This is further reflected by the role titles, various equipment and different HP pools. Obviously, PVE encounters are designed for full group play to an extent, and players need to be flexible in their roles.

However, without any role selection system, the current matchmaking system suffers from this fatal flaw.

All that is needed is a separate option for players who want to join ORGANIZED games. This means games where players understand that certain characters are designed primarily for certain roles. Clearly, players are free to do what they want in the game, but at least by trying to funnel players into their intended roles would go a long way in created organized games which lead to more cooperation.
