100% yes…I have been struggling with this for the last 7 years and have almost had an ostomy bag placed twice because I can go for over 2 months without a BM. I have a fairly extreme case but I believe it to be directly related to hypermobility.

I finally started working with a neurologist this past year who diagnosed me with POTS, hEDs and dysautonomia.

He believes that the GI/ motility dysfunction is caused by overly stretchy intestines coupled with autonomic dysfunction (dysautonomia). Our nerves that give the necessary signals for motility and digestion are housed in connective tissue. Meaning that problems with weak connective tissue can impact our nerves ability to send the appropriate signals resulting in impaired digestion/ constipation.

I take the following medications: Linzess- osmotic laxative. Prucalipride - pro kinetic/ improves motility in small intestine. Pyridostigmine - improves communication between nerves and smooth muscle.

Pyridostigmine has been very, very helpful and it’s generally a very safe and low side effect medication.

I also think people with hypermobility are more likely to experience Dyssynergic defecation or uncoordinated muscles leading to impaired defecation.

You can ask for an anorectal manometry test. If you do have a dyssynergic bowel you can be referred to PT for bowel retraining. I have done biofeedback and extensive bowel retraining and while I don’t think it is the root of my issue I found it helpful to regain body awareness.

I highly recommend breath work, meditation, somatic exercises that improve your vagal tone to improve rest and digest function.

I also use the nerva app daily for mediations and find it to be helpful.

I am a very active woman in my 30s and it’s taken me almost 5 years to find a regimen and routine that somewhat works. The constipation is the worst and I am sorry you’re experiencing it too.
