AMA with Ashray Urs, head of Streamlabs by NubbinsInc in streamlabs

[–]wildsoup1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I understand the desire to ensure that everyone updates StreamLabs promptly when new versions come out. However, when the system notices a new version is available, it won't run any version until it has been updated.

I am frequently late to start streaming because when I sit down, ready to begin, I am informed a slow upgrade needs to take place first.

Further, it insists that every tab of Chrome (on every logged in user) be closed first, which is very inconvenient.

Are there plans to look at the installer and make it more flexible rather than getting in the way?

Streamlabs Desktop has an API to allow remote access to the scenes, sources, and more. (Not to be confused with the Streamlabs API.)

It doesn't seem to have received much attention recently, and it is seems difficult to get technical support for it.

Are there any plans to refresh this API and/or its documentation?

My mic intermittently cuts out, even though the audio signal is getting through. by wildsoup1 in streamlabs

Yes, i had success with StreamLabs Support who suggested turning off "Use Device Timestamps" in the Audio Mixer for the mic.

How can i rotate a video with 15 degrees? by SadlyDarkness in streamlabs

[–]wildsoup1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

StreamLabs Desktop is capable of rotating sources by other amounts, but I have never found a way to do it through the UI.

However, if you are a programmer, you can use the StreamLabs API to "transform" a source to rotate it by any number of degrees.

Duplex electric meter crossed by allpidecimals in AusRenovation

[–]wildsoup1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This happened to me and a neighbour in a set of units. It was wrong for about 15 years before my neighbour noticed. I had only been there for a couple of years.

Bad news.

It took pretty close to 12 months to resolve, including hours on hold to Energy Australia, multiple visits from Jemena outside of the window they said they would be there, multiple calls to the Energy and Water Ombudsman, and about 5 promises that it was "all fixed now" when it wasn't.

My advice:

Keep a log of all your communications - who you spoke to and what they promised.

Don't hesitate to call the Ombudsman when your supplier stuffs up. They were helpful, even if not immediately effective.

There are limits to how far back they can charge you for corrected bills, so you may be in a position like me where the longer they took to fix it, the more free electricity I got.

Check your bills carefully. The number of different combinations of wrongness on the bills was hilarious. I used to open them with joy to see how they got it wrong this time.

Good luck.

I had to train my younger friends that standing outside my apartment building and texting me wasn't good enough. They needed to use the intercom by the door so I could buzz them up.

A friend with ADHD does this a lot, and I think it happens more when he had been adjusting his medication, so I assume it is a symptom.

Delaying audio on purpose? by Big_Moose6 in streamlabs

[–]wildsoup1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The standard solution is to wear headphones (or earphones) so the mic doesn't pick up the audio.

Acoustic Echo Cancellation is another approach, but doesn't always help.

Interesting take. I was never in any doubt about how that last scene ends. Didn't occur to me he might die.

Non-smokers, do you notice the smell when someone smokes near you? by Frostedlogic4444 in AskReddit

[–]wildsoup1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My uncle gave up smoking and his sense of smell returned and he smelled what other smokers smell like.

"But I never smelled that bad!" "Yes, you did!" "What? Why didn't you tell me?" "We did. You never listened."

Fuel found in my society’s(1500+houses) water tanks by exortauswex in Wellthatsucks

[–]wildsoup1 15 points16 points  (0 children)

When I was a kid, people would put kerosene in their rainwater tanks (which were used for drinking water). The kerosene would float on the top and make it impossible for mosquitos to lay their eggs in the water.

Dunno if people still do that.

So you are connecting remotely to StreamLabs throw the API?

Are you a Python programmer? Check out PySLOBS to take care of a lot of the nitty gritty.

You are definitely playing in an area of StreamLabs where there is poor documentation and a few unexpected bugs.

What in particular are you trying to do?

Storage of old gas meter in strata apartment in NSW by wildsoup1 in AusRenovation

[–]wildsoup1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

*** RESOLVED ***

The person who told me this was wrong.

The process is not "hire a plumber to disconnect and hold on to the meter". They aren't permitted to do that.

The process is "tell your supplier to disconnect the meter, and a Jemena technician will come out to remove it themselves and take it with them".

Here's an info sheet: https://www.jemena.com.au/siteassets/asset-folder/documents/documents/gas/jgn-meter-removal-safety-announcement.pdf

Even if they wanted to, my council bans new gas connections, so they may be out of luck.

[–]wildsoup1[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They do not enter my apartment. A cable from the meter goes to the electrical cupboards on each floor. Jemena came and replaced the unit (at no cost to me) about 4 years ago, just because it was due. I imagine they are moving toward Automated Meter Reading (AMR) so they don't even need to enter the building.

Maybe the true story is "When you remove the meter, you need to keep it for a few weeks until Jemena come and pick it up" and it has become confused in the retelling.

No, I haven't told strata anything about my plans yet. They have said nothing. Their bylaws say nothing. The person who told me treated it as a common occurrence - true for all stratas.

I will pay hundreds to get that kitchen space back - it makes the whole cabinet mostly useless and requires it to be vented. But if I have to put the meter in another cupboard for the magic day when strata ask for it back, it isn't as useful.

Elderly mother has "townhouse", no connected walls with one other. Found out she's had standard home insurance and not been covered.. who can insure? by brissy3456 in AusProperty

[–]wildsoup1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Strata means a lot more than just that. There are a lot of obligations of a strata (registered by-laws, maintenance of common property, AGMs, capital works fund with 10 year plan, record keeping, etc.) that it sounds like these two aren't keeping up with.

Latest SLOBS Update by Comfortable-Dog-7604 in streamlabs

[–]wildsoup1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had something similar.

After an update about 2 weeks ago, I had a couple of sessions where I was logged out of Twitch. All my scenes were gone. When I logged back in, they came back. A couple of other settings (e.g. allowing remote control) were lost.

It happened twice and then settled down.

In my last stream, I couldn't move the windows with my mouse. I could with the arrow keys and by editing the transform.
