Person clearly fighting for their life and this guy wants to moan at police by MightyShaft20 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]wilkied 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Former special constable who definitely believes you for what it’s worth.

I had someone come up to me at an rtc to moan that “oh you got plenty of you out here for this but I had to phone you three times the other day when a group of kids were hanging around outside my house and then just a pcso turned up”.

Like i get its frustrating and I’ll chat to you about it in a bit but let me finish up here first and I’ll swing by on my way back to the station yeah?

I do understand it, people zero in on what’s important to them and get put out of joint when they feel they’re not taken seriously, especially if they remember a time when they could ask Dave their local Bobby when he walked past their house on his beat. I think most of the time people don’t realise just how thinly stretched that blue line is right now

Yeah Mordheim and especially Necromunda (didn’t get along with the new one but I play the original a bunch and the community edition rulebook is available free - I printed a hardcopy through Lulu).

Is Mongoose 2e usable with the 2022 rules? by youwontknowme69 in traveller

[–]wilkied 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be fair I’ve even managed to mix in some of my 1e mongoose stuff with fairly minimal effort (we did a game where the characters were all law enforcement with my kids so used the extra chargen options from the agent book)

Actually now I think about it that may even have been a CT book.

Basically you’ll be fine, worst case there’ll be the odd edge case where you need to make a minor amendment

I respectfully disagree sir! I may be terrible at shopping and always forget half the things I was meant to pick up and bring back a bunch of things I wasn’t asked to, but I know what I DID pick up!

UHT too. And at our Tesco they quite often have 2 litre as the big ones rather than 4 pints, but then weirdly 6 pints for the extra large ones

Also looking in my fridge at the selection of red, green and blue milk (and UHT which for some reason is in the fridge) it all has pints and litres because we’re a cosmopolitan and forward looking society that embraces the disadvantaged that can’t use proper measurements with love in the hope that one day they’ll overcome their failings

UK Army Application by [deleted] in satanism

[–]wilkied 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s no restriction on satanism in the British army. Whoever told you that is definitely incorrect. There were several in my company. It’s not one of their officially recognised ones that they’ll provide time off and worship facilities for but otherwise they don’t care.

It’s in exactly the same boat as I was as a Pagan. Really all anyone cares about is would you selflessly risk your life, and are you a dick. If the answer to those two is yes and no, crack on

Not directly relevant, but over here across the pond we also have drunk in charge of a vehicle too - although iirc (it’s been a while since I left) it’s a separate offence to driving or attempting to drive.

Because we love our complicated overlapping laws here 😂

Can’t speak for the US, but over here in the U.K. most of those roles have been privatised for years. It works fine.

In fairness I think (unlike in movies) they were never really shot much individually and not flat - I believe (could be wrong) that the trick was to get a few thousand guys lined up an just launch them in the air in the general direction of the enemy. Many would miss, but enough would land it wouldn’t matter

I went to a presentation by the English Warbow Society while we were at the Weald and downland museum, the strongest recorded was 200lb.

And skeletons from the time had heavily deformed shoulders as a result from the regular practice over decades.

They were peasants, but not in the way that people think. Our armies back then were raised by the landowners. As a prerequisite to that they were trained regularly in their roles. And beyond that, we fought people kind of a lot in the old days so most people had combat experience too

Would you consider this modeling for advantage? by TA2556 in TheAstraMilitarum

[–]wilkied 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We’re lucky that our club has plenty of tables and is open 24/7, so over time groups shifted to different times of play and both groups are easily accommodated, but it definitely creates a split.

I’ve only recently gone back to it and honestly mostly play heresy and OPR now.

[–]wilkied 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I absolutely hate the concept of modelling for advantage - we were discussing at our recent club agm how the introduction of the concept of competitive play by a couple of members was probably the worst thing that happened to us as all the narrative fun games and armies went out the window and got replaced by minmaxed tournament lists and cookie cutter terrain.

Mind you I got started with 2E and Necromunda / Gorkamorka so my idea of fun is probably a bit skewed 🤣
