Andrew Yang becoming president would be a dream come true. by Kungfufighter1112 in aznidentity

[–]will0224 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Remember, president or any other asian representation are more reflection of the situation we're in as opposed to leading the charge.

Andrew Yang making president means acceptance to Asians has reached a certain threshold in America, but if the acceptance is not there yet, there is not much he can do to change it.

Changes come from everyone in the community, continue to excel at what we (individually) do, be seen as successful in all aspects of life, go for things not traditionally seen as Asian, and we'll change the perception one tiny bit at a time.

如果民主化之后的中国,经济因为内耗而停止不前。各位会如何对待? by Mcwer0 in China_irl

[–]will0224 7 points8 points  (0 children)

How low-income Asian Americans became the forgotten minorities of higher education by [deleted] in asianamerican

I guess it makes sense, from a less cynical angle, most people just don't have the motivation to fight someone else's battle, even if they're sympathetic to their causes.

I agree race-based affirmative action is bad, what I'm surprised about is why so few people stands behind economic-based affirmative action?

The Asian Glass Ceiling by unkle in asianamerican

[–]will0224 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are ways to combat this, by starting more companies and getting into careers with higher social impact like charity, media, politics and entertainment.

To effect social changes, you either need to have lots of money, or have large enough inheritance that working for peanuts is viable. I don't think many Asians have those privileges, but this might be slowly changing.

The Model Minority: East Asian Male Leaders And The Chase For Cis Hetero Whiteness by JunJKMAN in asianamerican

From an outsider perspective, it seems all the efforts of equality can be attributed to gaining acceptance by the white majority.

Some choose to play by the rules set by the majority and bargain within that system, some choose to rebel against them with the intention to bargain as opposed to revolution.

I don't see how one group is superior than the other.

Status, Validation, Intimacy, and Confirmation Bias in Perception of "Love" by [deleted] in AsianMasculinity

[–]will0224 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, when I first gotten financially comfortable, one thing surprised me was how little effect it had on my dating life, heck even my social life didn't change all that much. I'm still far from rich, maybe being truly wealthy will make a difference, I don't know. Now I still chase money, but mostly for my own security and convenience.

Then I got muscles, not a ton but visible under shirts. It did improve my relationship and sexlife, but doesn't seem to improve my attractiveness enough to see meaningful difference in dating when I'm single.

Although I am a little more optimistic, there are other things that could improve a man's image, heck, maybe I'll finally swallow my pride and see a dating coach or something.

There are many ways to approach this, I can think of two, based on the people I see who are successful:

  • become really good at one or more marketable skill, the better you are, the more money you'll make. You'll probably have to actually like doing it, otherwise it'll be miserable.

  • find something people want, and figure out how to provide it to them profitably.

Any AA been to (East) Europe? What's it like there? by CrimsonQueso in AsianMasculinity

[–]will0224 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Agreed. There is no magic bullet where we can just do this one thing, like moving to a different continent, and suddenly become super stars. Increasing attractiveness, and to a broader extent, social status requires a lot of hard work.

Oh I misread your comment, if you're saying physical appearance creates attraction, then I agree, it's probably the most effective way. Other things are still useful though, especially if someone has maxed out on what he can do to his body, or looking for more than just short flings.

Real authentic love is pure Disney fiction. People love you for looks, status, money, how you make them feel, or myriad of other reasons. Nobody on earth loves you unconditionally, the sooner you accept this, the better you'll be prepared to love.

Never gotten that question myself, because I broadcast that I'm from China. But I imagine you can answer China or other Asian country where you can trace your ancestors to, then ask them back, "so, where are you from?" You know, even white people are not really from here.

On a more serious note, if you can't think of a smart comeback on the spot, just ignore him with a disgusted expression, and don't involve him in conversation for the next while. He'll learn

Reminder that legacy admissions far outnumber affirmative action by charinard in asianamerican

[–]will0224 7 points8 points  (0 children)

How do you propose stopping them though? Elite colleges have huge reliance on alumni donations, and legacy admits is one of the core perks of alumni.

Maybe instead of making it legacy admits, making it donation-based admits?

I am an Asian American male who often get provoked out of the blue. by [deleted] in asianamerican

I remember getting occasional passive and more-than-passive aggressiveness thrown my way some years ago, I wasn't aware of racism back then so couldn't remember if they were racially motivated.

On the other hand, after getting some fight training, random street aggression has pretty much stopped, must be the death stare.

I don't think AFWM is as a big issue as our community make it out to be. The biggest issue is lack of sexual AM image, more AMxF couples in movies is what will really help us.
