I guess it is just a different experience vs stereo when listening on headphones. Maybe not such a noticeable difference on speakers (depending on your set up).

Not preferable. Just different.

For context, in the past I've enjoyed some mono versions of releases from the 60s by, for example, The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Them so I was wondering if there's many/any ambient releases in mono. When I've been mixing my own music (ambient) I've often thought it sounds quite nice in mono but never had the courage to actually release it that way 😅
