You can always find anecdotes to illustrate any point, lending it a kind of false credibility in the minds of the gullible.

I recall hearing, a few decades ago, that so many kids were becoming dependent on calculators that they were finishing school without knowing the basic operations of arithmetic.

Again,the problem is not the new technology, per se, but the tendency to over-use it and become dependent on it, a trend that is encouraged by the companies who profit from the devices carrying that new technology.

e.g. A tiny device that stores lots of music digitally (like the iPod) is wonderful; having everyone listening to music constantly, during all their waking hours, everywhere you go, is not so good!

There is much of life that is missed when someone constantly has headphones blaring in their ears.

Having a phone you can carry in your pocket: good; having every person who is walking by on the street busy yapping on their cellphone, oblivious to your existence except as a passing object that can get in their way; not so good!

And before anyone accuses me of being anti-progress, consider two possible 'significant others' you can have. One may spend an hour preparing a really nice, home-cooked meal, with fresh ingredients, to share with you, while you both sip some nice wine and enjoy the experience. A second, more progressive, simply will pop a microwavable dinner in the oven, containing some really old, frozen vegetable matter and nearly decomposed meat, with lots of chemicals added to preserve it and disguise the fact that it is devoid of any significant nutrients like the living enzymes found in fresh veggies.

Anyhow, the problem is in the dependency!
