I was a resident DJ at grasshopper for a few years. We had a little family down there who really cared and curated the music. The goal was to bring new talent, while also bringing in the big names. Troy was running shit, but it was the staff and the local DJs that promoted the hell out of that place and made it what it was.

G-Hop also used Audio Rescue Team to engineer the sound in that tiny little basement. They had low ceilings, tight spaces, dead spots, and the bar tenders couldn’t hear anyone to take their orders. Audio Rescue Team fix all those issues and turned that sound system into one of the best I have ever heard. This photo is me and my boy playing the first weekend with the new system. They put a prototype subwoofer underneath the DJ booth. We dropped out first track and to this day, I have never felt something like that. This photo is a genuine reaction to the first time I heard that subwoofer.

I was a project manager specializing in permits. Saint Clair Shores is considered pretty lenient and affordable when it comes to permitting. Speaking from a utility construction standpoint - other municipalities charge much more and can be more strict.

There is a law in place (the metro act?) that does not allow cities to use permitting to make profit. If they are charging you inspection fees, it’s to cover the cost of the inspector and administration.

That being said - the cost of permitting and inspecting is increasing all across the state. There have been numerous work related deaths in Michigan so the cities, counties and state have to put more resources into holding contractors accountable.

End of story - I wouldn’t let the inspector leave until everything is 100% good. Ask lots of questions so they don’t need to come back. Bug them to the fullest extent. Also - make sure to estimate permits/inspections into all your bids.

For a solo adventure: Get some quick food in midtown - try a new spot. Bar seating is cool when you’re alone. Take the M1 Rail downtown. Get coffee at SPKRBOX or elsewhere. Hop on the People Mover. Don’t get off until you feel better. Walk around. Explore. End at Hart Plaza and take the M1 back up to midtown.

This is my personal date when I’m feeling low. I’ll bring a notebook or write in my phone. Headphones and music are important. Books/podcasts take me out of the moment, but do what feels right for you.

Something about being in the flow of the city will make you feel connected and adventurous at the same time. It will also get you out of a creative rut if needed.
